Great super grandparents. We were in Alaska this summer and met 2 sets of grandparents bringing their grandchildren to travel. One pair was so courageous to bring 7 grandchildren and they hired a private guide; the other pair was on our tour and they brought 2. Those two grandchildren were so happy and polite. They were having a grand time.

Great advice! I think most of us wish that we had made different choices with our finances when we were younger. There is so much pressure to be successful in our careers and to flaunt that success by driving luxury cars and living in big homes. We would rather retire early and as you said, build more memories through travel.

You need to watch The Long, Long Trailer with Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball. That one is so funny! Your story is so similar to ours. We have lived on a budget for 36 years, always below our means. We downsized our house 11 years ago but haven't had a house payment since 2005. Our girls each spent 7K on their weddings. My husband retired 2.5 years ago at age 57. For the last couple of years, we've been gone from our small home in Indiana at least 4 months every year. We love to travel and especially go to National parks.

He says he makes more than he spends, so he’s happy to keep traveling. 💥 Have a fab day!

Living within your means in probably the most helpful one. We underspend every month so that we can save for retirement and to travel. We are also fans of the budget travel - as often as we can we choose those $8 hotels and $1 train rides! It's amazing how many people spend more than they need to need. great video and love your channel. I've learned so much. thank you! likewise, please don't care too much about how many subs you have and how many countries you've visited. i retired in my early 40s and I'm 55 now. i don't care about the number of countries I've experienced but only the quality of those experiences. when I was working long hours (60-90 hours a week), I would pack my short vacations with a tight schedule using lonely planet (long time ago). now, I love sleeping in late and just seeing 1-2 sites a day because I know i can always come back if I've missed something. kyoto is one of those cities where there's too many sites to see. (Beijing too but i lived there for 1.5 years just 2 subway stops from the forbidden city - which takes at least a couple of full days to fully experience instead of the typical 2-4 hour tour).

Nice video Bev and John. I think your best one! I love the top 5 -- specific, instructional and actionable. Lifestyle creep is the big killer. Everyone makes mistakes, limiting them is the key.

It is SO lovely to see a sensible American couple that living normally... great you didn't go "to much" down the usual "American Dream".. which is a nightmare (to a lot of the rest of the world).. "newer, bigger, better" which just equals debt. Brilliant! I have always been minimalistic, a saver and a traveller.. which brought me abroad with my rucksack and then lead to being married, having kids etc Unfortunately I lost my career due to unsupportive (now ex) husband and am now I am stuck in a 50% job abroad with my kids.. I won't be able to retire early. I am 51 and my youngest is 10.. but I am trying to keep costs low and save. I need to change my old car.. and want to buy one I can do a little conversion in to camp in. When I spend, it has been and still is on experiences and travel.. this summer 3 weeks back home in the UK. My motto is travel, sleep and eat cheap.. splash out on experiences. At least I am lucky to have done a fair amount of travelling before kids... backpacking in Oz, NZ, Taiwan, Canada, parts of USA, Europe and Russia.. but there are still SO many places I want to go. I have plans to try and travel in the future, try and earn more money ... once my 6 yr divorce is final..probably another year.. but this year i am focusing on my health.. getting rid of physical and metal health issues from bad marriage and divorce. i have given myself until the end of next year to solve all these...and am well on my way. Health is everything.. especially when traveling. You guys are such an inspiration. Thank you. Ps.. you are such a wonderful couple, full of respect and admiration for each other and your rolls in your relationship. A real partnership. I wish my ex had been different ie not a narcissistic, gas-lighter. But now I just have to move forward.

#3 is absolutely so important! Ask your CPA or friends who are successful in their investments who they use. DO NOT CHOOSE AN INVESTMENT ADVISOR BECAUSE THEY ARE A FRIEND OR FAMILY MEMBER! Great video. A company pension, even a small one, makes running Monte Carlo simulations so much easier for folks wanting to retire early. I suspect you could have retired comfortably the day you vested in that. My plan since I was 25 was to retire at 55. I retired at 57. In retrospect I wish I retired at 55. If the fire millennial resources had been available when I was 25, I have no doubt that I would have been able to retire at 40. I agree with you about lifestyle creep, although I have one distinction I like to make. A house is an appreciating asset. A car is a depreciating asset. Car = bad. House = less bad. It’s the furnishing and care of the larger homes that really hurts financially.
@RetirementTravelers2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Yes, a company pension is really nice. I stayed on a few extra years just to further stabilize our financial situation. Good points on car vs home. In our case, we were living in a pricey FL golf community. The fees, taxes, insurance, etc really add up and we couldn’t justify it being gone traveling so much of the time. Thanks again for the great comments and have a great 2022. John and Bev

Thanks so much. Glad you are enjoying our channel and hope you can follow our journey around the world. As for the weddings, we have 5 kids (3 girls and 2 boys). We saved and sat aside money to give them when they each got married. We gave the same to all and told them they could spend it on a wedding or house. We ended up l large wedding, 2 small, 1 medium and 1 elopement, but they made those choices. They are all now supportive of our lifestyle of full time world travel. Good luck with your next 10 years.
