Ollie was so cute all wrapped up in the blanket. At least with drift in the river, you were not transiting the locks northbound. The crap really builds up in front of the upriver doors. We screwed up a shaft going though a pile of stuff heading upriver on the Ohio. I think it was coming out of the Greenup L&D. We had to wait out a tornado that went across the river just upstream of the lock. They held all the boats in the chamber before they let us out and did not raise the water level up to the upper pool until after the storm had passed. We had to haul out in that area and have the shaft straightened.

Might have been one of the hardest but y’all made it look easy, well done guys. Jen, you rock! I love how you are so honest about your anx, but also living your best life full of adventure. You Rock! 7:42 During the floods in California Delta, when you see a log its usually a giant tree under the water surface. Looking back at this footage, I bet you are glad to be in a warmer climate

I dodge rocks and debris in my tinny up here on all the time. The ice is late this year on Georgian Bay and it is way too cold and scary to go out. I know you are playing a different game and you have more experience in a large craft than I do. You both certainly have my respect at this point. Great Captain, great crew. Ollie too! Notice that the front of Pivot is getting a brown upper lip. You need to jump in scrub that off and enjoy the swim. Debris is a problem and I did notice that can on front of that barge. Wonder if it will come off while locking through. Enjoy

haha not sure we would be jumping in 4 kts of current in 30 degrees of weather! It'll just have to wait for warmer waters 😁

Not quite the loop, but the most scared I have been is kayaking rivers in flood stage. Some rapids get wiped out and some become monsters that require extreme care. I don't recommend doing any rivers in flood stage.

Maybe it is just me but I would be running the generator so that I could have some heat in those temperatures. A generator uses minimal fuel and provides so much comfort. I have even seen people crack open an engine hatch to all that heat to help warm up a cabin. Safe travels!
@SchoandJo
@SchoandJo Жыл бұрын
We did use that engine hatch trick a few times! The issue with our generator is that it is loud, so we only used it when we wanted it. We used it a lot on the rivers, though!

Was that a Chanel marker stuck to the front of the barge exiting the lock? Where I dock at floating debris is super common after rains. Like where does all this come from!!!! And how did that whole tree make it through the shallows and bridges???

Why don't you have a heater in the boat, like a diesel heater?
@SchoandJo
@SchoandJo Жыл бұрын
Purely time! They are a great addition, but since we have electric and AC reverse heating we technically can already heat up to boat, de-prioritizing better heating. If we mainly transited up North then it'd be a must-have!

Is there any benefit to tying up together when anchoring in that situation?
@SchoandJo
@SchoandJo Жыл бұрын
There aren't many. The main reason to tie together would be social so you can hang out without dropping the dingy and if someone doesn't have good anchor faith. The holding is really good in the rivers and since, ground tackle is usually tailored to the weight of one boat it means you typically want to shy away from rafting. Another reason to raft might be if you drop two anchors in opposite directions to limit swing, but that isn't an issue on the rivers too!
