I am so glad I found your channel. I am about 10 years from retirement and my wife and I are thinking of taking up the boating/yachting lifestyle and eventually working our way to your size vessel. The more I see, the more I love the idea. Keep the vids coming as you are creating new sea dwellers as you post!!

You guys are doing a good job, in my opinion you are an "up and coming" youtuber! Keep up the good work and more subscribers will come. I like how you explain the area's you're visiting to boaters that might visit the area and what to expect like bridge opening times and things to look for at particular marinas. Thank you for your videos.

@@tryingnottosink9107 That's awesome! It would be cool if you set up the new camera to show the action pulling into the marina, docking and the challanges with wind and tide; the stuff we don't get to see now because Lyn is busy with dock lines.

Enjoyed seeing my home, Charleston, once again. Hopefully y’all ate at the restaurant there at the marina. Every time we come into town my Aunt always wanted to go there to eat. And it was very very good. Parking was a chore though. Nice to see the Battery and Rainbow Row and the old Slave Market again as well. Charleston is a beautiful and historic city.

Ahoy Capt. Ed and 1st Mate Lyn, I came across your you tube adventures recently and enjoy your commentary on a host of boating issues for MY's. I'm from New Jersey just across the river from ya'll and home port in Charleston, SC with a Carver 405. Wish I knew you had been in Charleston , I'm across the Ashley River by California Dreaming. You are correct about the current in the low country and the Ashley can really move. Would have liked to have shown you the spots downtown ..... Safe travels

Thanks for the new video guys! Always interesting to see where you take breaks. Question, Why do you have to always turn the wheel back and forth so much? Could it be low on hydraulic fluid or is the steering just that loose? Does it get better the faster you go?
@tryingnottosink91076 жыл бұрын
We are glad you liked the video. Many people have asked that question. I do not know the answer. The fluid and pressure is fine. However, one full rotation of the wheel is 10 degrees at the lower helm but only 5 degrees at the upper helm.
@hotrodhog21706 жыл бұрын
@@tryingnottosink9107 That is strange for it to be like that, but I guess you get some cardio when you pilot from the upper helm Lol.
@petermac93035 жыл бұрын
Hi Captain Ed. Really enjoying following your progress. One thing puzzles me. When you are at the helm you are constantly working hard at the steering. Lots of movement in both directions, to what appears to be little effect. I don’t have experience on a boat as large as yours, the largest I have had is about 30ft, but even at very slow rpm, it didn’t take that amount of play with the steering to keep a straight course. Is it just that you can’t leave it alone or is it really difficult to keep a boat of that size on course without constant adjustment?
@tryingnottosink91075 жыл бұрын
Lyn tends to film me going into inlets with following seas, which I have difficulty with sometimes. Also, the wheel at the upper helm takes twice the turn to move the rudder. If I am at the lower helm the movement is much less.
@petermac93035 жыл бұрын
Trying Not To Sink Thanks for the response, that’s really interesting. A bit puzzling why the upper helm should have less sensitivity. I assume that’s deliberate, but can’t think why.
@bobmcdonald86686 жыл бұрын
Ahoy Captain Ed and first mate Lyn, I don't even own a boat but enjoy watching your adventures anyway. Thanks for the videos! Just one question for Capt. Ed. I noticed that during the time you are shown at the helm and under way you are constantly turning and looking to the rear of the boat. I actually counted the number of times because I have nothing better to do. So, while you were on camera and talking you looked to the rear a whopping 23 times! This is during a total of 10 minutes and 41 seconds of talking. Now why, I asked myself would this be? Were you being followed by a huge white shark and you were trying to determine whether you were gonna need a bigger boat? Did you sneak out of the last marina without paying and were looking to see if they were coming after you? I prefer to guess it's just because you are a good captain and are being super cautious about your surroundings in all directions.
@tryingnottosink91076 жыл бұрын
That's funny! I do not really remember, but I do know I was only going at idle speed and it is a busy marina. There was probably traffic behind me that I was monitoring until I went up to cruising speed.

I enjoyed this video until the end... where it says "we hit something". I was thinking, oh no, not again? Ok this is foreign to a landlubber like me, but how can you hit something in the ocean... I'd be thinking, ok I don't see anyone around, time for some wide open throttle, full speed ahead and damn the torpedoes! Something like a slightly submerged log maybe??
