The old British Waterways boat reminds me of The Very Hungry Caterpillar 🐛book from my childhood, lol. Bollington looks nice along the canal, for a town, with all the refurbished factories.

Thank you. I've left the music out for a while because the birdsong was pretty good, but they're quieting down now so I'll start working some music back in. Aliens abound on the Macc, you've been missing them. They don't always show up but they are in this video.

The “British Waterways” boat at time stamp 7 reminds me of the first boat trip I made with the 1st Pontyclun Scouts in the early 1970's. we hired a boat and it's butty called Ant & Axe on the Grand Union canal from Braunston. It was a really good weeks trip. The butty had a dozen kids in it and the powered lead boat had the leaders and families. The boats were driven by a couple called Andy & Sandy. The blue fibre glass covers were removable. Every other one was put on the next. This gave plenty of ventilation. When we approached locks Sandy would sprint along the top to tie both bows together so we could get into the wide locks two abreast. It took us a while, and a lad who blabbed, to realize why the boys took to the top bunks at locks, Sandy was a bit liberal with underwear and a mini-skirt! We cruised along the GU until we got as far as the Stratford Canal. Here we stopped for the day and took the train to Stratford-Upon-Avon for a day out. First thing they did was to hire a rowing boat and we had two canoes with us. Turned around there and returned. Plenty of pub stops for all but one leader. An incredible time.

Thank you Phil. Up there with the best. Really enjoyable cruise on a part of the system that I have yet to reach. I like the explanations of boating etiquette on bridge holes, advice on reversing off and giggled at how the wide-angle lens makes your pole look bendy. Ours is and needs replacing. Safe cruising on the canal.

The Co-op is 'more expensive' because it tries to promote fair trade rather than 'the cheapest price and to hell with the producer'.
@talesfromtheswansneck4 жыл бұрын
So they have you believe, however they are more expensive because they have been in financial difficulties for some time. Also, far from being "ethical" as they claim their products are massively over-packaged in plastic.

Great video Phil thank you. As a point of interest if you wanted to moor where that fishing match was would you have priority as you pay a license fee to the CRT to use all waterways. I suppose the fisherman could argue they pay a licence fee to fish the waterways. Or would it be I’m here first rules.
@NarrowboatJourneys4 жыл бұрын
They were there first. It would be too much hassle to try and moor there.

Very nice wee trip Phil. You look like an old hand at mooring up, dragging the boat in, which makes me wonder... is there any part of a narrow boating journey that you still struggle with, or particularly dislike?

The water in the canals you travel seems to be very dirty. It's a green/brown color, it seems. Does it smell bad? Does anyone every swim in it? Can you safely eat the fish? Thanks
@Amileo3504 жыл бұрын
It is an offence under the 1968 theft act to remove any fish from the canal. As for swimming it is too shallow.
@NarrowboatJourneys4 жыл бұрын
It's not polluted (much), it's mostly churned up mud. You're not allowed to eat the fish and you need a permit to catch crayfish.

You're right Phil, the Co-op is expensive and considering it started out as a genuine co-operative to save folk money...until the men in dark suits got greedy, it's a co-op in name only imo.
