If you get stuck anywhere call your embassy. Part of the embassy s job is to get , in your case the British embassy must get you home. You will have to pay them back eventually. Copy your USA visa to your phone and to The cloud. Means you can access it if you lost it. If you get injured on holiday don't go home then to the doctor as your holiday insurance finishes the moment you get home. Go to hospital on the way home. I find it funny that you have to show your visa everytime you got off the ship in USA, yet the southern border has been a free for all for years!

The crew discount point is really interesting - as a 30-year old solo cruiser, I'm often mistaken for crew. I'm then given a discount, try to explain that I'm a passenger, and some stores have none of it, and insist that I have the discount, ha!

I am happy I found your channel. I have a ship tracking site to watch were ships are going and I watch Scarlet come into Miami and dock on another site with a live came overlooking the channel. I have done that for a few years now so getting to see someone who works onboard vlog is extra nice. In fact in about 20 minutes my time I will watch her turn in the basin for her next voyage. Reminded me of when I broke my arm as a kid, sailing in the Bahamas Out-Islands, many years ago! My Dad rented an old 3-wheeled golf cart to go exploring an island with, he lost control of it going down a small hill, it flipped-over and landed on-top-of me! Broke my arm, ouch! We got back to the boat, made our way to another town (which had a clinic)....the only doctor and old fluoroscope within ~ 100 miles....he set my arm in an old plaster cast. No diving for 6 weeks!!! (but, I was able to warp my cast in plastic bag, with duct tape, etc., so I could at least go swimming) Ah, the things we survived as kids, huh? 😀 Sorry for the ramble. I believe Lucy has mentioned that cabin assignments are based on your department and official "rank", even on virgin. But, the good news is, that 2/3's of the crew cabins on their ships are single cabins (where you share a bathroom with the cabin next to you), so the odds are much higher to get a single cabin on virgin, even being a lower rank, than on other cruise lines. If you email Lucy directly with your specific job title and department, she should be able to give you a more definitive answer. Good luck! 😀

Hi LUCY, This video is a GREAT video for "laying it on the line" type info. Just curious...do you really get FIRED for either, "Missing the ship'' or "Failing a breath/alcohol test"...no questions asked?

Ken, the answer is yes! If you fail a breathalyzer test (max BAL is 0.05, btw), you are fired instantly, no questions, no excuses! For safety reasons, there is no wiggle room. And, same if you "miss the ship", you're fired. Your job is not to tour the exotic locales, but to work on-board the ship, if you miss it ---- you're fired. (and, I believe you can have someone pack-up your stuff and either send it to you or drop-it-off in the next port, but most ship's masters will not allow back on-board) Hope this clears things up. (btw, remember on-board it's not a democracy!)

@@captainjohn49 John, thanks for the info. At the risk of sounding like a "Grumpy-ol-Man", I like this. I have always wondered why employers have policies in place that ALLOW for "chances". Ya know, the first time is a verbal warning, second time is a written warning, and finally fired. If an employer has told you that something is not allowed at the hiring orientation, why do they allow for warnings at all...? Like I said, "Grumpy-ol-Man" view point...lol (for the haters, no, I'm not talking about being late or forgetting your homework type offences...I mean the ones that you choose to do like playing on your phone while on the clock, smoking weed at work, sexual harassment, racism, etc)

Hi Lucy I don't know why people go so crazy about these ports of call I find it too risky to get off the ship unless the ship is docked for a ridiculous amount of time and you just want to shop for a bit and go back I'm not sure how the UK is but in the United States if you live in places Florida, NY, California or Arizona and quite a few other states these ports offer very little more if anything more then you can get back home so it's not really worth it to get off the ship especially when there's so much to do explore and eat on a boat a port really is not necessary unless there's a specific event or site you want to see

Does travel insurance cover you as crew?

No. If you mean will it cover you as a crew member if you "miss the ship", etc., the answer is no. Generally, "travel insurance" is for covering unforeseen events that happen while you are traveling/vacationing. This would not apply to you working on a cruise ship. (also, if you could find a policy that would cover this, can you imagine the cost of taking out a policy every time you left the ship?) Much better to just be a responsible adult, and remember that you're there to work, and when you get a few hours off from work, act responsibly. 😀

I was amazed how many sex workers were on the beaches. And how many boat passengers readily walked off with them to their rooms. And I've learned to bring your own condoms. In the ship shops they are over $$ the price at home. And in some cruises they sell out. Leaving you on a boat with a limp paddle.
