Welcome! I thought I would tackle some of the tiny pieces in my scrap stash! I created two brand new pieces of fabric from these tiny pieces that I'll be using in a future video project. Full disclosure, using up tiny pieces is not exactly speedy. It takes time and the will to win! HA!
I can tell you though, that each round goes by faster than the last round, and it's such a great feeling when you approach the last round, and know you're almost done! I hope my tips help you with a future project. Most of all, have FUN and let your sewing bring you joy.

Love making crumb pieces. It is slow going, and a lot of fun. I use them in blocks, i.e. center of a star block or part of a HST. Using crumbs sorted by color, I made 2 twin quilts with a XXXL wonky bird taking up the whole center of the quilt, blues for the body, purples for the wings, greens for the head etc. Your video has inspired me to just go ahead and sew up all the crumbs in the stuffed to the brim bin and continue until they are all sewn. Something to think about. Thanks.

I have made 2 crumb quilts. My squares were 3.5” with 1.5" sashing. I make crumbs from every project I make so I can use EVERY BIT of that $12 per yard fabric. It takes a really long time to make enough blocks for a quilt but it is so much fun.

I made curtains this way. I had a 4 1/2" ruler and used it to guide the size of my units. I just kept making and making. Used up about half of my crumbs and fed my "itty-bitty-tiny" OCD cravings.

I am sort of binging on your videos. Love them. These videos are some of my favorite. They are great to use as center pieces for different blocks. It is kind like working with mini blocks or postage stamp blocks but easier. I don’t normally do bags or to many mug rugs but I can use up a lot of scraps creating fabric to use. I have to say like you mentioned the pile or drawer grows over night. Twice I have cleared out my bag started trimming mens dress shirts and all of a sudden I am back where I was. Merry Christmas and thanks for your tutorials.

One more thing! I set my scraps at an angle on a foundation. When I started watching you, I would try to keep my cutoff pieces at as minimum as I could .... tedious, stingy, and made more scraps! Totally frustrating (well, not too much, but it did seem almost like a lost cause). I forget which video the turned the light on in my head, but THIS time, I am making BIGGER pieces along the edges of my bags parts - - two benefits with one seam .... what I am trimming off will become the other half of another block. Makes perfect sense to me!

Love the end product but as a newbie to crumb quilts would have found it useful to see more clearly what some of the components looked like at each stage of chaining. this looks a great way to use my fabric stash!
@sunbeamfabricart
@sunbeamfabricart Жыл бұрын
Next time! But I can tell you the crumbs and shapes did not match much, the shapes were very wonky! I just generally get them close enough in size to stitch a seam together, then trim of excess before pressing open. If you are a newbie I would maybe sit down with your crumbs/scraps and just sort into about 4 size piles max. Start stitching the larger pile first, putting 2 together, etc. Then anything that doesn't match and you trim off can be placed into a smaller size pile if it can be used. Then start with the next size down pile and get through "twosies" and start on "foursies" and just keep going. Have fun!
