Hermes does shit for the lolz, you can almost always count on him to actually help for no reason if he shows up saying "want some help?" So background on him from the original mythos though: Hermes is Ody's Great Grandfather (and there's like a 95% chance Ody knows) and Hermes and Circe were an item but the man is all about freedom and fun so things didn't work out. So yeah this entire song is Hermes being like: Hey there Great Grandson, my ex can be a bit much... here's some drugs to even the playing field! Also I love Ody's reaction in this: Oh hey GGrandpa is here to help me! *Hermes speaks* But... why is he flirting with me? Oh and Troy (Hermes) has just kind of *become* Hermes now... like he's made it his schtick. Edit: also as a trickster god I am certain that Epic's Hermes knows he's in a musical... which explains his Moly joke and laugh. He's not trying to make Ody laugh he's targeting us.

Hermes doesn't really give him a guaranteed victory against circe (nor in any of Odysseus's interactions with Hermes), what he offers Odysseus is essentially an opportunity to even the odds between circe and Odysseus, seeing as Circe currently has the upper hand, what with her magical powers AND his men being held captive (plus it helps that they're technically related to some extent!)
