Crunchy Korean Peanut Cookies (Matdongsan: 맛동산)

Today I'm going to show you how to make a crunchy Korean peanut cookie that a lot of Koreans grew up with, including me! They're called Matdongsan (맛동산) cookies, and were created in 1975 by the Haitai company. It's a fried cookie covered in a light coating of sticky syrup. They are crunchy, nutty, sweet and irresistible.

Maangchi!!! Whenever I watch this I wonder what happened to my grandparents maids daughter when they moved back to the US. Ms. Pok was a single mother and had no money, so they gave her way more than people were told to give maids. Payed for her daughters schooling and for all the food during the seasons of harvest, she raised my uncle and mom, so much so my uncle had a Korean accent for the longest time. My mother and grandmother tell me stories of the food she made them and now I try to bring those memories back by using your recipes❤️ I wish I could meet Ms. Pok! She was more of a mom to my mother than her mother was, honestly.

Ohmigosh! These are my favorite! I live about 4 hours away from the nearest H-Mart & Assi Plaza (aka an 8-hour drive there and back) so I only get to make the trip a few times a year and Matdongsan are always near the top of my shopping list. I get a couple bags and try to make them last, but they're just so good and addictive that it's impossible! I'm lucky to live in a town that has quite a few small family-owned Asian markets so I'm able to find a lot of the Korean foods/ingredients & snacks I love (among others), but none of them carry these. I'm so excited to make my own! You are always the best, Maangchi-ssi!

I'm fasting right now and the dough is already in the fridge. Gonna tell you guys how it's terned out after the ftar. Update: the mission was successful 😁 the only problem is I'm the only one who liked it the others said it was to hard we usually, I didn't even use the ovenbut anyway I loved it. I realy recommend to use the peanut and I've used homemade (fig syrup) mom made it.
