"A thin crispy, hollow roll with sticky cinnamon syrup on the inside... No, not chewy hotteok. Maybe it was a stale, weird hotteok." I've long since thought it was a figment of my imagination... You might be able to use a tava or cast iron fry pan. It will could end up like sweet flat bread without the puffy look. That's hard to get without an oven.

How interesting!..my husband is from central Saudi Arabia..an area called Qaseem..they have a type of sweets *just* like this..crispy outside..hollow inside with a caramel like syrup made of sugar, cinnamon and ground dried black lemon..they call it Kulaija and it's delicious!..it's amazing to find all the culinary similarities between cultures! thanks for sharing!

Maangchi I am one of your followers who does cook and I have to tell you that I have learned so much from you in regard to technique. I love love love the way you go about cooking. I use your technique for double frying chicken to make some of the best chicken strips I have ever had, and the best part is that you introduced me to potato starch, so my sister who is gluten intolerant can have my delicious chicken strips. I am always so excited to see when you post a new video and I have watched so many of your old ones, even if it is something I would personally never try to make, it always feels like I learn something useful in every one of them. I am a fan! Thanks for bringing your sensibility to us via KZbin and for demystifying Korean cooking which makes me more adventurous when I visit a Korean restaurant. I appreciate you!!

I bet if you used an assload of food coloring, you could make them look like geodes too. Party idea!

You do realize that geodes are a thing existing in real life and it isn't necessarily from a videogame imitating a lifestyle from real life?

Hi Maangchi ! Just found your You-Tube channel and I wish my late wife were here to enjoy it with me. It's been nearly 4 years since she passed and I miss her Korean food so much. I love your shows and the way you explain your recipes. You really make it fun. Soon I will be trying to make some of the fabulous dishes on your shows. Thanks for being there. I actually had this on a whim and it was labelled as "air bread" at a korean bakery , the inside filling was a little dry but still sweet and nutty from the sesame seeds, the dough also had black sesame seeds kneaded into it. Texture wise, it's nice if you like crunchy /chewy things. VERY good compliment to tea or coffee imo. Will try making these soon!
