I know a lot of people are confused; “didn’t mob already know?” I was in the same boat until I thought about it for a bit. I don’t think mob’s shock comes from the fact that Reigen doesn’t have any psychic powers, it comes from the fact that he admitted it truthfully to him. Reigen heartfully admitted his faults and “other side” of him. The fact that he did that *for* mob, throwing away the whole facade, is huge Edit: We also have to remember, the “mob” we know isn’t in control. It’s the jaded part of him that sat on the sidelines this whole time

This scene is less about mob realizing that reigen was lying the entire time- he’d already suspected that for a while. It’s about feeling like reigen was using him and valued him for his powers instead of as a person. Reigen admitting he’s a fraud is showing that ultimately, he cares about Mob’s wellbeing over his usefulness

Thank you, someone who gets it! Even though Mob already knew deep down that Reigen was lying and he accepted it, there was still a level of insecurity at the back of his mind saying Reigen is just using him and doesn’t actually care about him as a person. Once Reigen admitted to him that he was a fraud with his own words, and tells Mob that he’ll be fine on his own because he’s him, then all of his insecure thoughts got blown away in an instant. He needed that reassurance, and Reigen gave that to him.
@olidreyar6381

I think that was kind of the dichotomy of Mob's feelings towards Reigen that caused him a lot of turmoil this season. Last season ended with him probably realizing that Reigen doesn't have powers but when he goes to deliver the line, he instead says "I know what you are - a good guy" and that means despite this inner conflict, whether Reigen had powers or not didn't matter. The struggle was not being sure if his teacher, who he valued so much, truly cared about him.

I love the fact that this episode was titled "confession" which normally you would think it's Mob's love confessions to Tsubomi-chan. Instead, it's actually Reigan telling mob the truth about everything. Telling Mob that he also has a side of himself that he hates but accepts as himself and that advice helps Mob to finally move past himself rejecting his emotions and both him and his powers accepting each other finally making Kageyama Shigeo whole again.

YES and now that Mob is finally one, I firmly believe he won’t have percentage cataclysms anymore, just because he is not holding his emotions and own will back now. I see a few people confused about Dimple, here is the thing: Spirits only fully disappear once they achieve what some call "second death" which is when no one else remembers you, therefore you lose the connection you once had to earth, so it makes total sense that Dimple would be able to return considering Mob never forgot him.

In hindsight, that really does make the confession right after of Reigen absolutely despising "his other side sometimes" that much more poignant. He can't stop the other side from existing, but he can live with it because really, it's "him".
@ananas_774
@ananas_774 2 жыл бұрын
even if mob already knew that reigen was a fraud, the fact that he never outwardly admitted it to him was one of the reasons why his “other side” grew stronger. he was fed off the little moments in which reigen offended mob, paid him little, disregarded his feelings and all of the other little things that made him question if he did truly care about him, things he felt deep inside but would ignore because of the fear of letting it go for a moment and hurting someone. that’s why this moment causes such a change. once reigen admits it, the way mob truly viewed him deep inside just falls apart, as what reigen does completely goes against what he was convinced he would do once he saw the real him: get scared and run away

The "main" characters had all a striking impact to bring back Shigeo "Mob" Kageyama: 1) Teruki "The Rival" awoke "Mob" first 2) Ritsu "The Brother" had "Mob" find ??? = "Shigeo" deep down himself 3) Dimple "The Friend" effectively stopped "Shigeo" in his rampage for the first time, and even if it's for a sec, it allowed "Shigeo" to finally pay attention to Reigen despite having "Mob" disappeared 4) Reigen "The Master" opened "Shigeo" to his (or should I say their) own true self, to have "Mob" back and accept "Shigeo", for the two to become a 100% Shigeo "Mob" Kageyama, that is to say to become (or go back to) what he was always meant to be: himself I have no word to express how wonderful this (and all the show and this last season) has been made, and how such a show with such a finale had such a striking impact on me as well. Reigen will always be one of my favorite character in all of anime. He really has grow from what we saw in season 1. If this was Reigen from back then he would never admit that he had no powers. It just shows how much he’s grown. And also, I loved the scene at the end where Mob gets rejected. He walks up to Reigen and Dimple and tells them the results. As he tries to keep his composure, like he always does. This time, he actually breaks breaks down crying. And Reigen, not familiar with this type of situation, as you can tell on his face. All he does is just comfort Mob the best he can, and tell him to cheer up and look at the bright side like a real bro. It really was a heartwarming moment after everything they’ve gone through together. At the end of the day, it’s always Reigen that ends up saving Mob from his struggles. I really loved this show and I’m really gonna miss it. But what a great way to end the series.

Not, that he doesn't care enough about mob to tell him the truth if it meant stopping this catastrophe (stop him hurting) back during s1. But that he wouldn't know being accepted fully by another person was what mob needed to accept himself. He only found out when mob accepted his own shadier side fully at the end of s2.

Shigeo's dad is a good/kind person, but Shigeo needed a morally strong father figure in his life to lead the way. The entire show is about how Shigeo struggles with being a normal teenager while having unlimited and unfathomable power at his finger tips, living in fear of that power and how it altered his cherished childhood. Reigan looks past the power, looks past all the nonsense and sees the boy who needs someone to look up to, and Reigan himself is in dire need of inspiration. It's a friendly reminder to the viewers that you can be who you want to be, but you have to take risks (go out there) for it to happen.

This caught me so off guard because I thought the show would end without them ever directly addressing it. It’s the show’s LONGEST running joke, that Reigen not only convinces normal people that he’s the most powerful psychic, but also frequently convinces ACTUAL psychics of this as well. It’s so deeply ingrained in the show’s DNA that I almost thought they’d let the whole show go by and never say it. But then Reigen opens up so honestly and truthfully for the FIRST TIME to Shigeo that it finally convinces the kid that Reigen has never been using him, he’s always seen him as a friend. So this is my favorite moment of the whole series. This was the moment I realized this was my new favorite anime of all time.

Mob Psycho 100 became officially my personal #1 anime: it's wonderful in every facet and has a very special place in my heart. It was the first anime I watched after years of shelving them and it made me re-enter this world. It's currently one of those very few works that I would watch again a thousand times because, in addition to having genuinely entertained me like never before, it above all made me reflect deeply on the messages it leaves, which have had such an enormous resonance in me that they have made me empathize at all point to become very fond of both Mob and Reigen, two simply sublime characters, and what is even more incredible with the background ones, which is more unique than rare. It's a pity that in my country, Italy, unlike other countries, Mob is a bit underestimated because unfortunately it is largely conditioned by the unconventional art style or plot. The last scene in my opinion is worth everything, it managed to capture every little emotion that comes from this ending: seeing Shigeo reach a point where he can laugh without inhibitions and with all his heart is the aim that the anime had from the beginning. I can't think of a better way to end this, and it's even rarer for an anime to end this well. If the first season of The Mob was little less than an introduction and the second was about accepting others and appreciating what they can bring to your life, this last one instead, as the OP text points out, is about the acceptance of every part of oneself. The ???% was not an ancient entity or an extradimensional demon, it was just a part of Mob/Shigeo. From start to finish, Mob Psycho was a complete story that knew what it wanted to convey and always did it brilliantly, concisely and effectively, from the first episode to the last, including the much critical 8th ep. which was the most controversial because it showed a graphic design that did not meet the standards of the series (it's legit that the latter may not be liked as long as it is not said that it was done badly due to a lack of budget or a change of studio, because that's not the case) but on the other hand it was the smoothest of all the episodes released (with 20,000 animated frames in all). Indeed, it's from ep.8 that you can tell that the Studio Bones staff have poured an infinite amount of love into this series, which in my opinion is such a huge part of what makes it so special. The day it ended was very moving for all of us who saw the finale but also for all the staff, who were seen deeply emotional at its conclusion. This series is unspeakable in words and means so much to many people, myself included, whose love of animation has now more than ever been fueled by Mob, because the love of animation was what fueled his creation first. The story and the characters have the same soul as the production, which has managed to create a perfect work in my opinion, and I understand those who thought they were going a little more in-depth. Sure, it's sad that it's over, but it's a necessary and well-constructed conclusion nonetheless. And the coolest thing was seeing how this series had an unprecedented ability to bring together many people from different fanbases in the most positive way possible. So, thank you Studio Bones, and One-sensei as well, for giving birth to such a cool and emotional masterpiece.

I think what’s extra special about this scene, is not only does it show off the immensity and gravity that Reigen and Mob share in their relationship, and how it shows how important Reigen is to Mob, as Reigen was the only person to be able to snap him out of his rampage, but also the fact that it seems like the ENTIRE show was supposed to be leading up to Mobs confession of love to Takane, when in reality the show was actually building up to this completely different confession. This scene PERFECTLY encapsulates the entire story of Mob Psycho 100, and is just masterfully done in the art of storytelling.

This scene is so great because is a confession of a liar who probably already knows or assumes that his disciple already knows the truth but still wants to believe that he believes him. And his disciple is shoked by the confession, even when he already knows that he is being lied long ago, but still wanted to believe his teacher that long. The power of this confession is not about both of them discovering any truth, simply that they both remove that barrier between them to have a more communicative and equal relationship.

Whether Shigeo knew about Regien or not, Reigen opened himself and admitted to his flaws and lies, straight to his face. Reigen exposed his "dark side" to prove that Mob is not alone...

Mob's inner self always knew and believed that Reigen would never admit it, but I guess he didn't know him well enough. Shout out to Reigen, not all of people could ever be honest about themselves out loud.

I just love how in any other anime, we would cry or be saddened by the revelation Reigen makes to us, but not here. In Mob Psycho, the audience (and presumably Mob too) knew from the beggining that Reigen had no psychic powers. It's not what he has to say that makes us cry, it's the very fact that he says it.

I think it’s more that Mob already knows Reigen doesn’t have powers, but the fact that Reigen is telling the truth to Mob sincerely for the first time. Reigen truly loves Mob, despite all the Tatemae going on behind the scene.

Mob may have already known, but not only did Reigen verbally say he doesn't have any powers for the first time, this was the first time Reigen openly admitted how much he means to him. It's subtle but there were SO many little moments where Reigen held that feeling back. But once Mob's other half threw their relationship into question, Reigen set it all straight.

Mob always thought that Reigen is using him and the fact Reigen told the truth showed him that he has genuine feelings for mob as a friend. So this was mob realising he was loved all along. At least that’s what I understood here.

throughout the the 1st and 2nd season most of the emphasis was really on mob and his development as a person but i really love how the focus on this last season was learning how to accept all the parts of you. especially during the last half of this season it’s so prevalent. while changing for the better is always nice there will always be parts of us that we can’t and don’t have the power to change. mobs rejection and attempt to control those uncontrollable emotions only led him more astray and it created a part of himself that he didn’t know how to accept. to see reigan and his brother tell him that that dark side of him was something he didn’t need to cast aside but rather welcome as a part of himself was so heartbreakingly beautiful because to be honest like reigan said many of us probably have sides of ourselves we feel ashamed of and want badly to cast aside but to be validated by someone, to be told that it’s okay to be our genuine and authentic self, is so freeing. learning how to accept yourself for who you truly are is such a simple concept but it’s such a meaningful and important one and it’s why i love this anime so much because while it’s humorous and entertaining it also sprinkles in lessons that are essential in our real lives.

I see that many interpret this scene and the interpretation that I have of how powerful it is, is that Mob sees 2 Raigen, one is the one he shows to everyone, the master, the one who knows everything, but Mob also knows the other, the one who has no powers, lies, deceives, and uses him, when Raigen admits this to Mob Raigen's facade ends and now there is only one before his eyes, that is why the scene for me is powerful, because also in that moment there are 2 mobs one is his being, and the other his subconscious, and I think that Mob understands that the 2 can exist and not just coexist, that it is okay to be honest and open up and show himself as one is, and all of this is before confessing to Tsubomi, which is even more powerful, because he has to show himself as he is, that is why so much emphasis is given to "one" or "1" throughout the series because that is what Mob Psycho in "your life is your own" entails.

Reigen has always been the only person capable of calming Mob down. So i'm always a little confused when people who watch the show blind expect Tsubomi to be the one to stop his rampage. I'm guessing it's because it would have been your typical "love interest miraculously saves the day" anime cliche. But Mob Psycho 100 isn't like that. In each season, it's Reigen who sucessfuly stops Shigeo from losing control. In season one, it's when Mob is 1% away from going on a murderous rage. In season two, it's when Mob is stuck in his obsessed state and is immediately subdued by Reigen after a few words. And finally, here in season 3.
