While the scene is very touching, Dimple also created this situation in the first place. If he didn't use the tree for his religion, it wouldn't become so powerful. If he didn't cause Mob to go 100% trust, Mob could destroy the tree on his own.

It's painful to think of just how important dimple was to mob. He was not only living proof that spirits didn't have to be evil, but this scene was possibly the first time Mob truly had someone who understands the burden he had to shoulder for so long. Who truly understands just how powerful he really is, and therefor how strong he has to be to not only manage that power, but to stay humble and human while doing so. Only for Mob to immediately lose that person, and be cursed with never knowing what happened, only that they're gone and it hurts. This show is top tier in every way

The visual of psycho helmet staring down dimple in the background is so haunting. Shigeo being able to feel its presence through the brainwashing gave it an almost cosmic feeling. Dimple finally got the power he wanted while everyone he controlled watched. It being under the circumstances of his death adds weight to the sacrifice making it feel tragic

You know... Dimple started the series wanting to use Mob's powers for his big goals. But he'd already lost the instant he chose Mob as his target. His ambitions were doomed from then on. You see, Dimple's specialty is social manipulation, which was how he started at least TWO successful cults. This requires that he understands what makes people tick. But Mob was never like most people. There's a reason he states, "I could never understand this guy". But he HAS to understand Mob in order to properly manipulate him, so he tries. In the process he learns everything about what is important to Mob, who is important to Mob, and why. He comes to understand Mob like a true, attentive friend would. He uses that information to save Mob from Mogami, and he uses it to _hurt him_ in this arc. Dimple is also very intelligent, so every challenge given to his own worldview forces him to change his way of thinking, little by little. He's self-preservation first until Reigen forces him to realize that Mob's too valuable an asset, and that sometimes big risks are worth BIG rewards. He thinks that powers can accomplish anything, until he feels the raw might of Musashi by possessing him. He thinks he wants to rule the world until Mob says, "I'll listen to you, I will acknowledge you, as your friend." Dimple had already lost the instant he chose Mob as his target. His ambitions were doomed from then on.

This is why ONE is going to go down in history. His works hold not just an incredible level of creativity, with Broccoli being one of the most terrifying and sincerely disturbing designs I've seen in ages, but they have a sentimentality to them that refuse to care about whether or not something is "silly" or outlandish. All that matters is that it meant something to the characters and to the viewers.

I bet that what dimple did to solve the issue he created, was to fuse himself with psychohelmet at the moment psychohelmet tried to absorb dimple. Then this new spirit as result of dimple's will decides to abandon the city. I imagine it to be the same as the sacrifice done in Tron legacy, in which the main villain gets fused back with his creator, destroying everything.

We learned in the Yokai episode in season 2 that evil spirits can be created through belief and strong emotions. Dimple used the broccoli to start a cult and gain followers, but if you think about it, no one was ever worshipping Dimple, they were worshipping the broccoli. I think that since Dimple had such a strong connection to the broccoli and was constantly absorbing its energy, that an evil spirit never had the chance to manifest, but as soon as Dimple detached himself from the broccoli, it quickly gained sentience because of how many believers it had

Spoiler alert for those who haven't seen the whole season. I like to believe that this is the reason ???% Mob's rampage was stopped at the end: his shock of seeing Dimple return. ???% Mob was aware of the things Mob was experiencing even though he was dormant, the proof being that he knew who Reigan was and that Reigan was lying. When Dimple sacrificed himself here, Mob believed somewhere deep down that Dimple was gone. Maybe deep down in the same place ???% Mob was trapped. Mob made many friends throughout the series, but none were like Dimple. None of them had a chance to control Mob like Dimple did here, only to use it to ensure Mob's safety; something Dimple has done multiple times throughout the series by taking over his body. No one saw Mob is his weakest, most powerless state, and still decided that he was worth saving. Nobody else earned Mob's trust 100% like Dimple did just before this. No one else willingly died to protect Mob. With Dimple in that condition, ???% Mob could have wiped him off the face of the earth instantly. But I don't believe there's any way he would have. Out of everyone, Dimple was the friend who told the truth. He changed from trying to use Mob to inviting Mob on his crazy schemes. I believe Dimple is the only person that ???% Mob accepted as a friend at that point. He wasn't just shocked that Dimple returned; he acquiesced to Dimple's request to listen to Reigen, which allowed Reigen to finally defuse the situation. One cool thing I noticed is that Dimple almost always refers to Mob by his real first name "Shigeo" or as "partner". I think this meant a lot to ???% Mob, who identifies as Shigeo and actively despised "Mob"; and who thought everyone Mob met was trying to use him to their advantage.

Thank you! Some fans say not killing off Dimple was a dumb move and made his sacrifice here meaningless, but I disagree. Dimple didn't know he was going to survive. Regardless of whether he did or not his heart was willing to make that sacrifice. And he was completely needed in the final face off with ???%. Only the combined efforts of every single friend was able to get through to Mob, and so Dimple was needed there too.
