@@Leon玲央I think you hit something right on the head. The main thing is that his son and grandson, despite rebelling against the government and becoming notorious criminals, were raised well. They’re righteous people with a good heart. Garp’s only issue with them going down the path they’re on is that they ARE criminals. They’ll be apprehended and executed for their crimes and that’s what he absolutely wanted to avoid for Ace and Luffy after Dragon became the most wanted man in the world. You could say Garp is cowardly for working for the government but it’s assured safety for his family, especially being of the D clan. He wanted Ace and Luffy to grow up to be strong marines more so for their own safety than anything else. Besides, he made sure never to accept a promotion so he wouldn’t be under the foot of the celestial dragons, so he understands that the world is corrupt, and despite not condoning Luffy’s actions, he’s always rather proud of him when he upturns a corrupt part of the government.

Things I found while rewatching this glorious scene a thousand times over 0:32 Both Kuzan and Garp have tears in their eyes, showing how much they respect and love one another from the beginning to the end. 0:40 If you pause right at Garp's eye you can see Kuzan in his admiral outfit, which displays just what Garp sees after all this time. And with Kuzan's point of view, you can see young/prime Garp as it also shows what he also sees, even after he turned his back on the Marines, he still respects Garp with everything. 0:41 Now with the most replayed part in this scene, it shows the story of how both Garp and Kuzan came to be. From how they both rose to the top as comrades and fellow admirals. Captain and Marine Soldier, Vice Admiral and Admiral and finally both of them fighting each other as themselves. 0:43 You can see a glimpse of past Admiral Kuzan, with his usual demeanor when he is around Garp before all of this. Although for some reason he's not smiling? Maybe Garp talked about something important here but we do not know for sure. And lastly 0:45 where you can see Garp as well, it's most likely they were talking as usual, or maybe this is just foreshadowing to a plan they both have made (I still believe Kuzan is just doing this to overthrow Blackbeard, I really really hope it is) Another one, 0:56 Garp was smiling even after he was knocked away from that Haki Clash, which means he is proud of Kuzan, for how strong and powerful he has become. Luca already said this in his comment but yeah I love one piece man, its so freely creative with its chapters and episodes. I am looking forward to seeing you all again after the 6 month break!

i love how from the minute they go to punch each other there are soo many easter eggs if you go frame by frame, like them dapping, their younger selves mirroring each other, younger garp being reflected in the "shattered glass", the eyes garp reflecting younger Kuzan and Kuzan reflecting younger grap and so much more its really cool

The staff and the freelancers really love this series because you don't bring this level of character acting to a TV anime, let alone a weekly anime. Character acting is a very underrated aspect of animation, and the large majority of anime barely have it since it's not appreciated enough by the average viewer. Its purpose is to give the characters a soul and make the scenes feel more impactful. One Piece continues to impress me with this.
