I had a feeling that garp intentionally stayed there and let kuzan freeze his wound to spend more time on that island to find out what kuzan is up to otherwise how would you explain that he had the time to even use the den den mushi to call back the ship and later conveniently showed up on the ground pretending to be defeated.. Think about it... Garp is fast and Kuzan is not a problem for garp. After he did the galaxy divide, he could have easily continued the fight if kuzan was to show up. Now, after the galaxy divide -> he called the ship with den den mushi and all of a sudden he's on the floor laughing.....I think he just wanted kuzan to freeze his wound and give him some time to call back the ship...That's more like it in my opinion.
