I`m 58 and have not broke 50 this year. I used mt 3 wood four times this week and shot a 47. My partner could not believe how well I hit it. 180 yrds every time. I feel like I am taking lessons. In another video (can’t remember which one), I recall Clay teaching that “you always want a slightly descending blow for a 3-wood, whether it’s teed up or on the turf. A descending blow will create contact higher on the face, which creates less spin and more distance” (something to that effect)

Thanks for the lesson, I found it very useful. However, I don't believe that, as you've stated, its the pulling upwards of the lead shoulder that releases the lag. If you freeze this video at 5:54 you will notice that at contact with the ball your lead shoulder is in fact only slightly tilted backwards and yet you've released all the lag by then. Something else is releasing the lag. Can you explain that?

Great question...if you move the ball more forward in your stance you'll be hitting more up on the ball similar to a driver and get more distance that way. You can of course leave the ball position the same as hitting off of the turf as well. Whatever works best. Play well! Nate |TSG

do you still hit down on the ball when hitting a 3W off the tee?
@TopSpeedGolf3 жыл бұрын
It depends on what you're trying to accomplish. You can swing like you would from the turf and make contact on the downswing by moving the ball back in the stance a little bit or you can move the ball forward some and hit it on the upswing like you would a driver and launch the ball for more distance. I just wouldn't tee it too high in either scenario. Best of luck! Nate | TSG Instructor
