In this tip, I teach you how to hit your fairway woods consistently. So many beginners and even experienced golfers end up topping their fairway woods or just don't hit them solidly. There's a reason for that which I share with you in this tip.
Free samples from my Body Swing book and video series here: bodyswing.com/...
A lot of hitting your fairway woods better comes down to how you think. That's right. In order to hit these clubs solid and consistently you need to think of the right thing. Once you have the right thoughts it's about technique. This doesn't mean you have to change your swing. You just need to do this one thing that will allow you to hit your fairway woods higher and more solidly.
So watch this tip and try it out the next time you're at the range. If so, I guarantee you will learn how to hit your fairway woods consistently long and straight.
Please visit the link below and I will send you free samples from my Body Swing book and video series: bodyswing.com/...

Thanks, Paul. Ironically, I started doing this on my own with my 3 and 4 hybrid during the last round I played. I can’t tell you how unbelievably well this worked out for me. Now that you’ve said it, it’ll be stuck in my game forever. An 80% swing with clean club face contact is way better than a topped 1000% effort swing.

So flippin' true. One more piece to your puzzle Paul is that taking the thought of LESS distance with a fairway wood will almost always result in hitting the ball in the sweet spot, so the distance will actually occur. Keep preaching, some of us are receiving your message! 😉

Thanks for the sub! Simple is the key for sure. You actually need to understand it and try it. Too complicated and you probably won't remember it and not do it right. So you don't get the results. When I was learning I made it complicated too. This got me nowhere and I was practicing daily for years. So if I didn't get it the average person will never get it.

This whole loose arms chat relating to where the swing is at is widest is so spot on! I rocked up for golf yesterday, Range is shut so cant hit any looseners stand on the tee and bang nail one as far off the toe as you can go without missing the face. Totally felt tight at impact. Reloaded felt the arms stretch out and pow! Ripped one so pure I didn’t feel it at impact. My driver is going straighter than ever!! After watching so many videos on the “perfect” golf swing focusing on the everything physical while your videos have helped me so much more by showing the importance of the mental game of golf. Went to the range today and let my mind do the work. using my arms as hinges, loosening the body, keeping my head down.. don’t think of distance.. sure enough I was hitting bombs dead straight.

Paul you are so right on the psychology of the fairway wood. I figured out my personal technique (which might work for others as well) is that I have to watch the ball as I’m hitting it. One time I had to carry the ball at least 170 yards over a large body of water. I thought well, I’m going to lose this ball or top it and it will dribble up to the pond (so I didn’t really care about the carry distance I just wanted to try it). I watched the ball, hit a good strike and couldn’t see it due to the sun angle. So, as I drove up I looked first on the close side of the pond and then on the far side of the pond and I still could not find my ball. I looked approximately 25 to 30 yards up the hill toward the hole and lo and behold there was my ball. I can’t remember what I did after that with the chip in put but I will never forget that clean three wood shot.

@@paulwilsongolf Well our world changed today on the range. Every fat, thin, skull, chunk, slice, dribble, shot was directly related to swing thoughts of trying to just kill it. My son and I would step back take a deep breath change the swing thought followed by a smooth swing. The ball would just explode. Then we get cocky and try to kill it, only to be humbled again and repeat the process.

This was more of a mental lesson than swing mechanics. "The longest distance in golf is the six inches between your ears." I went through several brands of 3-woods before settling on a Callaway Razr Hawk. Less is more. It has saved my clunker drive many a time and I swing it easy, no easier. My partner will grab it and tap on the face to see what its made of. Thanks Paul!

I would literally check those clubs out every time I wandered around the shop. They sat on that rack for years. The pro should have allowed people to tape them up and hit them. They would have seen great fairway woods shots instantly. Probably ended up in the junk yard. Not sure about stand up. I do say it like it is though which can be funny to most and a few thin skinned babies get turned off. If you can't handle me then your playing the wrong game.

The “distance thought” really rings true. I normally hit my 6 iron around 175-180 yards however when I hit my 6 iron as a position play on a par 5 when I know I can’t get there in 2 or off the tee on a short/tight par 4 and I have no specific “distance” in mind I hit it 190+ yards. I know this because I use the Arccos system to track all my yardages for all my shots. Don’t try and hit it far, try and hit it well and the far will take care of itself 🏌🏻‍♂️ Something that has helped my fairway wood and hybrid ball striking is actually trying to hit those clubs like an iron. I see a lot of players (including myself) who cant decide if they want to sweep it or take a divot. Either way, make a decision and commit to it.
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you need to be 100%. Sweep or divot is an arms thought though. So stop thinking like that. Fairway woods there is typically no divot. Hybrids might be a tiny divot but in no way would I be thinking of taking one. Change your thought and stop worrying about impact.

solid advice ...I might add ...1. Be sure to shift weight onto lead heel in transition ...and 2. Maintain the same angle of arms to shaft (as established at address) at impact
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf 4 жыл бұрын
Shifting would be a thought but that will get too many thoughts just a the moment. Think of the things in the video. Hit some great shots. Then you get confidence knowing you can do it. Then you can work on other things. Too many thought and you will never get it so you think you can't do it. Relaxing the arms alone and not having distance thoughts will get anyone hitting amazing shots.

I’ve learned to hit my fairway woods solid by swinging more vertically. The temptation is to sweep at them because they are long clubs and resemble a driver. Instead these are hit off the ground. You cannot sweep at these shots. It will also help to choke up a bit in those long fairway woods and long irons so you can be more precise with them.
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf 2 жыл бұрын
Well, I would disagree with this. In no way would I be swinging vertically with them. Maybe you were just swinging them too flat so a feeling of more vertical worked for you.

I don’t top the ball, ever! But every single time (not once has it ever gone any different) I hit a 120-150 yard grounder! Every time! It drives (no pun intended) me crazy! I’m looking to get 180-200 yards off of the ground. But for the life of me I can’t! It’s never once gone airborne! Of the couple thousand practice shots I’ve taken with a 3w. All grounders! So I say screw it, when I’m 240 yards out on the fairway, I’ll grab my 5i (I don’t have a 4i) and shwack it as hard as I can! It’ll fly about 150-160 yards and it’ll go straight 85% of the time. But if I could learn how to use a 3w or 5w correctly, I’d have a far lower handicap!
