Agree in part. She is a wonderful singer with superb control of pitch and delivery. Quite how she manages to sing this song with so many incidental notes in it while being accompanied by what I think is unnecessarily fussy guitar playing I do not know.Sure he’s good/clever but he could learn better when to be good/clever. As someone else remarks she doesn’t warble like many American singers who do it to show off which seems to me what his guitar playing is doing - even thought it doesn’t bring anything to the performance. This girl os one in I don’t know how many million

@bobtaylor170

She's a marvel. You just don't expect to find this in a young woman. I like Samara Joy, and Esperanza Spalding is her own weird delight, but Alison here not only has great taste, but yes, she doesn't do the unbearable vocal gymnastics which 99% of people today take for granted constitutes "real" singing. I'd like to believe a wider public will come to appreciate her, but I fear her ceiling is limited by the stupidity which has engulfed the population.

Exactly. I like to call this sort of singing "honest and true." It was actually one of Frank Sinatra's secrets. He said you should sing the song as the composer wrote it.

Should Allison ever read these comments, I was the guy at the Robin Hoods bay gig who asked her why hadn't she recorded Cry Me a River, she told me that she had and pointed me to where I could find it, I did and wow, I now have three versions of the song, Ella Fitzgerald who sang the original, Julie London whose husband wrote it, and now Allison, all are superb and I will never be able to decide who does it best. Thanks Allison, wonderful evening with Bygones last night.

This has got to be one of the most beautiful songs You've done. I remember Julie London doing it on TV when I was very young. TV's were Black and White in those days. My parents had a number of her albums and some with her husband Bobby Troupe who was an incredible musician in his own right. I'm pretty sure we have unopened copies of them somewhere in their stuff. My Dad never bought 1 album. He always bought 2, one to open and the other went in his collection un opened. This style of music fits your singing style very well. Thanks for bringing back some wonderful memories, and sharing this beautiful song.
