Should Allison ever read these comments, I was the guy at the Robin Hoods bay gig who asked her why hadn't she recorded Cry Me a River, she told me that she had and pointed me to where I could find it, I did and wow, I now have three versions of the song, Ella Fitzgerald who sang the original, Julie London whose husband wrote it, and now Allison, all are superb and I will never be able to decide who does it best. Thanks Allison, wonderful evening with Bygones last night.

Oh, just superb! I love it that you avoided the trap of adding too many vocal tricks. Like the divine Ms. London herself, you just used tasteful, tasteful phrasing to deliver this superb song. Amen amen amen!

Agreed! For me, all the vocal gymnastics are like fingernails on a chalkboard -- Allison's style is bliss in comparison (is it too much to hope that her style is making a comeback?)
@bobtaylor170

She's a marvel. You just don't expect to find this in a young woman. I like Samara Joy, and Esperanza Spalding is her own weird delight, but Alison here not only has great taste, but yes, she doesn't do the unbearable vocal gymnastics which 99% of people today take for granted constitutes "real" singing. I'd like to believe a wider public will come to appreciate her, but I fear her ceiling is limited by the stupidity which has engulfed the population.

Exactly. I like to call this sort of singing "honest and true." It was actually one of Frank Sinatra's secrets. He said you should sing the song as the composer wrote it.

I like that is brighter or more frivolous than the classic version - makes it sound more like a sardonic "F U" than someone resigned and talking to the bottom of their wine glass. Always reminds me of V for Vendetta too.

This has got to be one of the most beautiful songs You've done. I remember Julie London doing it on TV when I was very young. TV's were Black and White in those days. My parents had a number of her albums and some with her husband Bobby Troupe who was an incredible musician in his own right. I'm pretty sure we have unopened copies of them somewhere in their stuff. My Dad never bought 1 album. He always bought 2, one to open and the other went in his collection un opened. This style of music fits your singing style very well. Thanks for bringing back some wonderful memories, and sharing this beautiful song.
