instead of writing the same number for each word add +1 so if you word is #3001, write it down as #3002 for each word. So when you need a seedphrase you will know that the number is 3002-1=3001. But the person who stole or found a plate wouldn't be able to guess and will think that the seed phrase is wrong. I don't know why no one explain this extra feature, it's easy to remember

Also, it doesn't make sense to burn the conversion sheet if it's a fixed value known on the internet. There's no cipher to it. If you created a cipher, and the cipher was on the sheet, it makes sense.

Might be bigger trouble in the future when you forget you're supposed to add one, or anybody that might inherit your bank account and safety deposit box would also be lost... Especially with cold storage wallet Crypto getting lost, It's going to most always be you... Create some pathway for beneficiaries, family... With 24 words you can do a split key and have half at home in a safe and half in a bank... And still have Bitcoin equivalent security and no single point of failure

People fail to understand what Cryptotag is and what it aims to accomplish. And it fascinates me. "What if you lose it?" "What if someone finds it?" "What if it gets stolen?" You stand to lose your crypto, that's what. Now riddle me this - how is your own inattentiveness the metal slab's fault? Cryptotag is a more durable and more secure physical storage method compared to a piece of paper. Nothing more than that. It doesn't become invisible or intangible, and it also doesn't teleport to a pocket universe if it detects an unknown person in the room. It's just a slab of metal, and just like paper, it can be stolen. Or found by someone who shouldn't find it.

Lol all these comments saying "what if it's stolen?" really don't understand the meaning of self-custody. The appeal of decentralized assets is that YOU are solely responsible for the security of your assets and you're not beholden to the security risks of a centralized data store. Of someone steals your gold bars you buried in the backyard, you have no one to blame but yourself. But if someone steals your fiat currency from a bank, you lost assets due to the bank's negligence (and possibly your own).

Triple check. Don't play your TV or music in the background... Keep your pet's, family and friends off the phone and out of the room... Go into a Zen state of meditation and focus... Get plenty of sleep for at least 3 days in a row... Go to the bathroom first... Don't do it Hungry or angry. Or right before work Have your eyes checked... Proper lighting... Organized all around your workstation with nothing extra to distract or get in the way... Hell you could do it in a sensory isolation chamber like in the movie altered States... Soundproof room. I need glasses for small print and I might get away without using them but I'm going to use them! It's a good idea to have a backup set. Or a split key even twice over, which means you're storing 12 words at home and 12 words at the bank type of thing... And you might get away with just 12 words in a password manager but never put the whole thing in your computer or online anywhere. Maybe you can get a chip implant into your body with the words...lol

you just make a new order of the 2048 wordlist and save it somewhere, even on the cloud.Then you make your numbering on the cryptotag. Even if someone stole your cryptotag it is useless because it was set up according to the new order of the words. If someone hacks your cloud storage the wordlist is useless without the cryptotag. To lose everything you must lose cryptotag and get hacked at the same time.

Correct. We advise adding a Passphrase/ 25th word. But a titanium plate is always a better storage method than a piece of paper

It is combination of 24 out of 2048 words without repetition. So if my counting is not bad you going to get4.173112217441×105 combinations that's 41731122174410236047796743722730466018640279171473593600. So wish you best pf luck to try hit right one.

I thought of that too and although 24 words is super secure , some cold wallets support a 24+1, a 25th word. This one you keep in your head and is not part of the 2048 BIP39 list. 😅

Grab a calculator, and then do this: 2048^24 That's how many possible combinations there are if you were trying to guess the word combinations. So the chance of guessing someone else's seed phrase? Practically impossible, if not mathematically. Let's say you had the 24 words but in the wrong order. Easy to figure out, right? Well, 24^24 combinations...

It's not decoding though. The BIP39 wordlist with numbers is publicly available on the internet. Storing the numbers was never used as a decoding method. A paper just makes it easier to find the correlating numbers/ words.

Great question. You don't need the paper later on as your words come from the official open-source and industry-standard BIP39 wordlist. The numbers are also in there. So if you ever need to recover your wallet, just use the booklet or any other copy of it on the internet. Do a quick search for: "BIP39 wordlist" and you'll see ;)

​​@@devanii Split it up two ways... And do that twice over... 12 words in safe at home and 12 words in your bank and 12 of the words in a password manager and the other 12 hidden in your home... Don't put all 24 words online Don't have a single point of failure with all your words in one place At home you could have 12 words digitally stored even twice over Like with a password manager and on paper And on one of these plates... So at your house they would have to compromise both your safe and your phone and or desktop. I would also make the weakest link of your backups and split keys 1 through 12 and they might think they have access to your crypto but only half...if They only get 12 through 24 then they might give up... And even if they did, you'd still have the same security as a Bitcoin private key

Wouldn't it be better to make these from some kind of tough silicone/ plastic so one can bury it without a possibility of a metal detector finding it? I mean - just as most ppl below - I see little point of having it in this form when every one can decipher it freely... Just a thought.

For that use case, maybe. But the biggest risk is a house fire. In that case, plastic or silicon will be a bad choice. Titanium is a great material to combat house fires.

You can get safes that are largely fireproof, and then stick your plates in a fireproof envelope... And if somebody comes to the fire of your house with a flame thrower and aims on your safe, you'll still be safe... Triple protected lightning or electrical fire plus flamethrower against safe and fireproofing envelope plus titanium equals still saved by bip 39...lol

It's hacker-proof in terms of digitally hacking. It's literally a physical product. If a thief (which is the right word) finds it, they would be able to decode it. But a Cryptotag should never be kept in plain sight. You can also add an extra password. So the 12 or 24 words are useless until you have the extra password.

Sure, totally understand. That's why we also have a product called Thor that uses letter imprints for the engraving method! With that product, you store the letters of the seed words.

This is not 100% safe, It is better to create your own coded sheet where you can do something different. For example one of your words on your list could be show as "TREVENO". This simple code contains the word and the number of the word in between 1 to 24. Can anyone guess what is the word and what number is?

@@xavierbourguignon37220 Everyone has their methods. Make sure to imprint the seed deep enough in your plate. A drimble wont't work. Also, get a strong plate. You do not want it to break. Cryptotags are bulletproof. And never split your seed phrase. You can't afford risking to lose one of the parts.

The BIP39 wordlist is open-source and can be found anywhere on the internet, starting on GitHub. Go ahead and search: "BIP39 Wordlist" and you will find numerous websites that have the words and numbers! ;)
