I was just going to mention that. Both this shitty remaster and the Halo CE and 2 anniversary editions were co-developed by Saber interactive. Saber doesn't like to build on the original game and make a proper remaster. They just take the worst version of the game (In this case, the shitty PC versions of Halo CE and 2 and the slightly downgraded yet fantastic console ports of Crysis) and add whatever they think looks nice, which usually does not look like the original and is very poorly made. I have no idea if Halo 2 anniversary is as shit as Halo CE anniversary, but Saber's previous "remastered" games have left a bad taste in my mouth.

@@kohl1259 Ok, although it's based the shitty Windows Vista port of Halo 2 and only available in the MCC. Not to mention they keep pushing HCA nowadays, with it's shitty animations and recycled assets. If Microsoft can make the original Halo 3, ODST, and Reach backwards compatible on Xbox one, then they should make the original Halo CE and 2 backwards compatible as well. After all, Phil Spencer has worked on making the Xbox platform as a whole as consumer friendly as possible, so locking the first 2 Halo's behind MCC seems like a cash grab.

the lighting in this is really poor. "Oh, but it's dynamic, global illuminaton blah blah blah..." it looks flat and cartoonish. Tech is nothing without design and this game destroys the original design.

I see you've been dealing with people defending the new lighting because its technically better than the original. I agree with you, they Totally changed the look of the game, basically cranked the saturation so it looks like far cry 1. Horrible

Crytek actually went to Jamaica and took a bunch of pictures to use as reference to make the game's environment and lighting. They actually wanted to make the game look as realistic as possible. The only thing I'd say breaks the realism of the game's graphics is the volumetric lighting, as God rays don't actually appear on clear sunny days as they often do in media. They appear to increase the cinematic weight of a shot, whether it be a game, tv show, or film, but they only exist when some sort of mist or gas is in the air. You can usually see God rays naturally when it's foggy outside, and up in the clouds when sunlight goes invisible gasses and mists up there. Filmmakers are thaught to implement volumetric lighting whenever possible, and typically use a smoke machine to create the effect.

Needless to say, the remastered definitive edition looked like a de-master. They probably will need to remake Crysis to make it even comparable with the original and I'm pretty sure they knew that. This was just a shameless cash grab from crytek.

Well according to Crytek Twitter feed, they have updates, more enhancements to performance and graphics enhancements in the pipeline. I'm going to wait however - they should never have released it in the state they did. That being said I have seen a number of Xbox One X videos were a number of users are getting smooth performance over the past two days.

What baffles me is that if the developers released this game mere months before the next gen consoles. The game would look much better if it released exclusively on ps5, Series X/S and pc (I understand that releasing it on current gen has the benefit of availablity, but think about: Full ray Tracing, faster loading, better sound quality and 4K 60fps)

I know this review was 2 years ago. But the performance is way better than when it launched. I currently have an MSI gaming laptop with a GTX 1650 4gb with an I5 10500k, and 12gb of ram. It runs all 3 of the remastered games on medium at 70-100 fps depending on what happening in game, and 60fps on average on high. Interesting part about the graphics is the fact that you barely notice a difference no matter how low the settings.

At the time all I can remember from my computer then is it had a Phenom II 9600, 8GB of ram, with 3 GB GeForce (don't remember which one), running with 2 750 GB WD Black, Windows Premium on 500 GB Barracuda, and I was still only able to run it on low and mid settings. If I ran it with certain mods I had to run it on low, until the optimisation mod. Even then I only managed medium down the line. Almost 13 years ago in a long time in computer years.

This is an old post now, but FWIW, my i7 system with a 3080RTX will run this game smoothly with no problems at full “can it run Crysis” resolution. One of the most beautiful games ever made..

I just played the remasterd trillogy for crysis 1 i can say, the trees do go down like in the original when using explosions and the graphics look pretty good. I was able to max out everything on native 1440p for exception of raytracing (i did that one at performance mode) with a average fps between 60 -> 80 with some dips to 40 when i was driving in 1st person mode (because of the raytrace reflections on the windows). im on a ryzen 5 7600x paired with a rx6750xt, i can see it will run way better if you enable dlss, but because im on amd i can't enable dlss. Overall i would say it runs pretty smooth, not as good as some more modern titles but im happy with 60 -> 80 fps on crysis 1 because its crysis afterall it used to be way worse fps on the original. A note about the 'can it run crysis?' settings, the point for that setting was to futureproof the remastered, so that when better pc's come out players can enable that setting so its quite normal really if you cant run with those settings. Visual difference between very high and can it run crysis? is pretty small imo. I give the trillogy a 8/10, i did enjoy myself with going back to the franchise on the remastered :)

Play the original and here are the main reasons why: -Lighting is more accurate in the original(in the remastered everything is over saturated and it looks like fantasy world) - lighting is better - some shadows are better - physics are better - theres dlc for it - it has multiplayer - it has all missions(in the remastered the entire flying mission is cut)

Having played (and enjoyed) Crysis 1 on the console port, I am disappointed to hear that the "remaster" we have waited years for will be taking all the negatives with it. I fully expected this game to be _the_ definitive Crysis that could finally achieve its ambition, not a compromise that was equal or worse than the original. If not reworked quality-of-life gameplay changes, then at least improved graphics, weapons, animations, and sfx. To hear that there is no sandbox or multiplayer is another area of concern, I would have thought an improved game with multiplayer would allow us to create maps, servers, and mods to our hearts' content. There was so much potential with what Crytek had built, but it always seems like they are either disinterested in their own games, or at worst are only content with releasing the same product with little improvement or innovation that they were once known for.

2:51 BULLSHIT! That's exactly why Ascension is not there. Please don't buy the horseshit of Crytek saying "We didn't like that level".. Lies! It's simply too much of a hassle to bring that level back as the entire game was ported from CryEngine 2 to CryEngine 3 to run on X360/PS3.. which is the main reason they used the console port as a base for this remaster rather than porting the entire original game for the second time to the modern version of CryEngine. Brining that level back would be a lot of work and they don't want to do work. It's easier to say that he level was bad. Exactly the same reason Warhead is not here either... They would have to port the entire game over to the new Engine and that is where they drew the line of how much work they wanted to do.. So they just grabbed the console version running on CryEngine 3 which was much easier to work with. Don't get your hopes up. It's too late.. they condemned this port to be forever an inferior version by taking the shortcut of using the console port. Only way to fix it would be to bin it and start over. We better off using the Crysis Enhanced mod. Looks far better anyway and uses the original game.

This is EXACTLY why consoles are seriously holding back game development in general. When you have to program for lowest common denominator consoles and port that garbage to pcs, you'll get games like Crysis Remastered. In a perfect world sub $500 consoles wouldn't even exist because no decent gaming system can be created for that amount of money. For that matter, ghetto pcs should be eliminated as well so that mid range pcs would be the minimum spec that game developers would have to worry about. Imagine the HUGE advances in gaming technology if that type of ecosystem existed.

Cysis Ascension was not put in because crytek didn't like it lol but they made this remastered worst than the PC original by using a console port and yet they didn't added it in for that reason. They should take a good hard look at there attempt of this remaster and fix it back to how the original looked with the color grading back in specially on the over brightly color foliage and the bad looking water effect and put the save option back in it plus fix the same old bugs and cpu bound

It's just a really lazy remaster. They took the easiest way by using the console version because it had access to more modern tech, was easier to modify, and had better multi threading. They focused so much on the lighting features that they completely forgot about the art direction and missed the whole point of what made everyone freak out about the original. Also, the Switch version's colors look so much better, what the hell.

I watched a vid that explained that it's less of a CPU bottlenecking, and more of a single core bottleneck. They left enemy AI and some other aspects one core, instead of spreading the load across cores. Making one core max out while other CPU cores in some cases (or CPUs) were barely working. Similarly I think they did the same with draw distances.

To be honest the way they went with this remaster was wrong for the PC why bother with it if its not fully optimized and they down graded it to what the PC was and used the 360 remastered console version when this was a PC exclusive game designed on the PC technology hardware for its time and now all we have is a console port of a remaster. Makes me so angry when this for me was the best looking game i have ever seen back in the day and now it even more messed up by poor decision and the handling of how they went around doing this. Yes some things looks good like the extra grass and trees and view distance and sand textures but that's about it the rest well color's have been changed and the realistic look for me just isn't there no save options foliage don't look right with the color over saturated. I have no knowledge in how to mod or make a game but i can tell you if i did i would of put my highest priority in this game on optimization bugs and then make it dam look a lot better in the visuals coming from the PC with mods installed .They should of made this remastered with the PC version from the start and use the console port for there remastered instead of us PC gamer getting a downgraded console game on PC. All in all would of been much more better in just made the game from the ground up an improving everything and putting in new and more content and jungle maps .

I had the original before playing it on ultra just fine but lost it. I should buy the original again and play it on 1080p ultra in 60 fps for just 10€

After watching this review I have changed my mind about buying a copy of this game even now when it's half-priced (around 15 euros) at the Epic Games store. I'm still playing the original which I have both on CDs and at GOG that with visual improvement mods is still looking great and has quick-saves and quick-loads as options. The absences of those were the main reason why the original FarCry was such non-fun-to-play a game.

It's also the animation of the characters and lighting etc compared to modern titles. Also some of the textures are still low quality compared to the latest AAA games.

It's strange how all these reviewer's are struggling to play the game at the highest settings with low FPS,l have a Intel 9900K,32 GB 3200 ram and a RTX 2080ti and thought I'd start at the "can it run crysis" settings and surprisingly it did quite smoothly without any noticable stuttering

I agree the launch version sucked, but the patch fixed practically all the gameplay problems and the game looks incredible. The upgraded textures, lighting engine and much better performance make this a no-brain recommendation if you are a fan of the original

Yeah crysis 3 had great potential but it just felt like a tech demo.I mean a 5 hour campaign with the same enemies from crysis 2 with some new variations and that hacking ability

So basicly its a money grab with minimal approach investment. Anyway,what Crysis made durable was the editor/sdk that came with it unless Crytek managed the creative scene to death...
