Beautiful shrimp tank MD! I like to see the buce + moss combo in the shrimp tanks they look awesome and work great for Caridina. Thanks for mentioning btw, good to hear I'm a 'nice guy' from your perspective😂. That microbe bag is very popular among Asian breeders, they call it Lubao bag. It's slow release beneficial bacteria inside that feed your shrimp and bacteria in the tank. Very beneficial for the shrimp, but keep an eye on the ammonia level as it also gradually releases a little bit of ammonia over time that is absolutely safe in the established tank but can be a bit toxic for the shrimp in the new tank, but I think for this tank size you should be fine. Good luck with them and I hope to see 100's of those shrimp in that tank in your future videos!

Buffer means it stabilizes the water chemistry so additional acid input or reduction doesn't change the pH. So, if soil is reducing the pH it's not buffering.
@alancai9903Ай бұрын
Yeah but the soil is also acidic so it reduces the ph to a certain level and maintain at that level which is why it’s buffering the water
@JohnnyGreenroom2 ай бұрын
There is very very little nutrition if any in Akadama. Its just clay from Japan, it will be slightly acidic as that is the nature of Japanese soil. It has micro channels running through it so has good capacity to hold nutrition and oxygen. It is almost never used neat in Bonsai as it breaks down far to easy during frost and becomes a solid clump, which kills root growth. Depending on the brand and shipment it can be harder and less dusty (ideal) or really poor and crumbly (ibaraki is better than Ryusen). Hope it helps!

I don’t practice bonsai but I was thinking along the lines of what you said. That substrate would be for drainage and aeration I’m thinking? Not nutrients. Good explanation. Cheers.

When you have access to such lush healthy large sized plants, I bet it's so much easier to start a planted aquarium! Where I live, the best you can get is 1/3 or less of your pot's size for the same price. And you are lucky if you get plants that are not already in the process of dying. As for the tissue culture, for the same price we get cup's contents barely 1/4 of those you show in your videos. And often times they already have lots of brown rotting leaves and barely any roots. The overall price of aquarium plants is so high that in order to plant a new tank the way you do, you'd have to spend more than you paid for the whole tank, hardscape, and lights put together.

Just make sure to keep an eye on your KH and GH-levels as these shrimp are kinda picky... you will also eventually need to start culling/removing new shrimp progeny that do not keep that pattern/color of their parents, if you don't within a few generations they will all have reverted to a brownish wildtype.
