Hey mate, I have a pretty sick game I've been developing in GameMaker for a few years, but I have NO idea how to do the sales side, getting it onto Steam etcetera. Is there any kind of guide out there for small studios looking for how to turn their game into a publicly sold title? Thanks and sorry for the complete noob question

Really pleased with the somewhat competent chemical explanations for all of this; listing some compounds that do have something to do with drugs. Reminds me of the holodisks in Fallout 1 that described the FEV-virus in a biotechnological fashion, with the mutagens of DNA/RNA-strands and such. Really believable.

Meanwhile Fallout 4 - "Why are you killing people and creating synths in their image? And how do you do that?" "It's complicated, you wouldn't understand"
@fpedrosa20765 жыл бұрын
Also, in Fallout 2 most of the monsters, including ghouls, are explained by a combination of radiation and the FEV virus, and not just by "magic radiation". Another detail that got slowly diluted in the sequels. As for Conn Benn's question the FEV is a virus that alters its subjects DNA. It doesn't so much force evolution as it mutates its subject among certain lines. Now add to that the fact that some humans/animals already had their DNA randomly mutated by the radiation and you get the critters of Fallout.
@fpedrosa20765 жыл бұрын
@Conn Benn Everything you said was true, and it IS a common misconception that evolution is always "improvement" when really, it's random mutations and which ones thrive is decided by the current environment, which can change. But yes, the Forced Evolution Virus, despite its name, is more of a bio-engineered virus that increases the size, strength and capabilities of its host. Still mumbo-jumbo sci-fi, but at least it's researched sci-fi whose writer gave it some thought. It's not just magic radiation, but there's a different element to handwave it. Don't get me wrong, Fallout is not some hard sci-fi milestone or anything. But the earlier installments were closer to soft sci-fi (very unscientific, but with the fantastical aspects handwaved by advanced technology) while later ones (especially 4) are really closer to fantasy (laws of physics/reality are totally disregarded or changed to suit the story and the game. Also, it doesn't even bother attempting to explain how synths work, or even why the institute is creating them). There's nothing WRONG with that, per se. Fantasy has its place, like any other genre. But the difference is there, and it's noticeable.
@nickkorkodylas50055 жыл бұрын
@Conn Benn There are teleonomical trends in evolution but that has more to do with selective pressure, which is environmental, than mutations themselves.

You simply made something up completely out of the blue and talked it up as if you have even a shred of evidence when in reality you're just an insane person who sees a villain story in everything. Mauro Molinero I haven't played much of the early fallout games. What's so drastically different about the lore?
@RojOdio6 жыл бұрын
Nothing much except some new additions. He's probably talking about how Bethesda's Fallout 4 has Jet existing before the Great War, which causes some fans of the originals to freak out about lore contradictions. When it's much easier to suggest that Myron lied, especially since there's already some dialogue in Fallout 2 that implies Myron didn't invent Jet and is lying. But those lore errors get a break because it's from the original creators.
@R3DSH1FT1966 жыл бұрын
J Interesting. I was hoping for more than just some kid "inventing" cow shit amphetamines. That's why I asked about the supposed 98% of missing lore from earlier instalments. I guess I'll have to find time to play through them myself, unless this guy eventually responds. Thanks
@RojOdio6 жыл бұрын
Well, people also hate on some other things Bethesda did. 1 - They introduced Super Mutants on the East Coast in Fallout 3. Fallout 1 establishes the Super Mutants as being made by the Master by dipping humans into FEV on the West Coast. So, to them, Bethesda "breaks" the lore... except for the fact that Bethesda explains Super Mutants on the West Coast as coming from FEV taken from Vault 87. In Fallout 4, Bethesda explains Super Mutants in Boston through experimentation on FEV. 2- People don't like Bethesda's take on the GECK, which had previously been thought of as merely a briefcase filled with seeds and gardening and construction books. Fallout 3 has GECKS as crazy advanced matter replicator devices.... But the Fallout 1 manual explicitly mentions that GECKS are cold fusion powered matter replicators. Side note: People give less shit to Obsidian following Bethesda's take here - as two of their DLCS, Dead Money and Honest Hearts, also use matter replicator technology in a casino, of all things. 3- People also fiddle over Fallout 4's introduction of the T-60 power armor. Previously, the T-51b had been established as the pinnacle of power armor tech. This is easy to reconcile, since in the game its implied that the T-60s were deployed only days before the bombs fell. 4- People also complain about the introduction of the X-01. But, yet again, there are theories that suggest that the Enclave armors were based on the X-01, a pre-War prototype. I'm sure you can get other answers from other people, but it basically boils down to people out of hand dismissing any new additions to lore as Bethesda's "mistakes", when in reality none of them break the setting and a few of them already fit into the existing setting.

@redbird15007 жыл бұрын
Fallout 4 really, really shouldn't be canon. That said, Fallout 4 happens over a hundred years after Fallout 2. During the time of Fallout 2, only the Mordino family (and Myron of course) knew the recipe to Jet thus they had sole distribution rights... not by law, but simply because they were the only ones who knew how to make up. I'm sure if someone else figured it out, or if someone else created an even more addictive drug, they would either bribe them to work for the family like they did Myron, or kill them and bury them in Golgotha. As all things however, the secret recipe for Jet couldn't stay a secret forever. Who knows exactly how it got out. Perhaps a slave witnessed it's creation, then escaped? Perhaps one of the scientists defected when the guards weren't looking? Perhaps when the Mordino family came crashing down, the many scientists that were working for them at the time manufacturing Jet simply struck out on their own and all became independent dealers, figuring they could make loads of cash selling it themselves with the Mordinos not being around. Then of course time goes on and more and more people learn how to make it, and it becomes like any other drug. To be fair though, Jet is, at least as of Fallout 2, the ONLY drug that is still being manufactured (that I know of). All the other ones, Buffout, Mentats, Psycho, etc. are all pre-war drugs that are simply scavenged, probably from old pharmacies and factories. Unless you want to count alcohol as a "drug". The one exception to this rule that I could probably think of is Vault City, who most likely has knowledge and means to create the ole pre war drugs, but very likely only give them to citizens as prescribed medications for certain ailments... though I imagine Psycho wouldn't be prescribed ever, at all. It's a VC law however that anyone inside the city cannot legally partake in the use of drugs OR alcohol for recreational purposes.

For people saying the jet retcon doesn’t matter: we recognize that it’s not a deal breaker but it’s just another sign of Bethesda contradicting lore for something that adds nothing to the game. I mean pound for pound, LSD is technically more potent, since its measured in micrograms vs mescaline being measured in milligrams. You'd need less LSD to have an equivalent trip to mescaline. An average dose of mescaline would be about 200-400 milligrams, where an average dose of LSD is 75-150 micrograms. Imagine taking 300 milligrams of LSD. And peyote usually only has a mescaline content of about 3-6% when dried out, so you need waaaay more cactus to achieve the same effect.
@yeastofthoughtsmind96234 жыл бұрын
@@neighbor472 that is strong, but LSD from the 60s wasn't always 300 micrograms. The concentration is and was up to whomever laid the acid on the blotter. However there is some anecdotal evidence to suggest that the average concentration of LSD per blotter was higher than it is today, due to the drug being cheaper and more readily available in the 60s. Also I'm pretty sure the character was simply referring to LSD in general being a rather old school drug, not to a specific Era of LSD production/consumption. 300 ug is a heavy dose though. Any time I've taken that much has been pretty insane, but also very interesting and typically enjoyable.

It's really saying something that in a game series populated with all sorts of unsavory characters, like radiated mutants, rotting ghouls, monstrous post-war abominations, scumbag raiders, mobsters, pimps, slavers, rapists, drug lords, and genocidal xenophobes, Myron stands out as the singularly most repulsive character in 5 games.

@@breadlover302 Of course it shouldn't be exactly the same, but I'm pretty sure you'd expect a game to retain what makes it a Fallout game. The RPG elements in Fallout 4 are basically nonexistent: it plays more like a shooter than an RPG and every character you create ends up being exactly the same in the long run. It doesn't deserve the "RPG" tag to its name, therefore it is a bad Fallout game. Bethesda has completely forgotten the roots for this amazing series. It's plain to see that Fallout 4 was simplified so that it could attract a bigger playerbase. It's completely devoid of aspects that make 1, 2, and NV amazing. I think there was a bit of a missed opportunity. Sure Myron was an crass, edgy teenager, I but I feel like they could have developed him further by offering opportunities for him to mature(sure that d have made him more likable and relatable) and perhaps by adding couple of extra endings for him. Like: 1) Getting him to straight up, find extra bright minds and assist in founding the first post nuclear university. 2) Help him in making new, even more dangerous drugs 3) Sell him to khans/Metzger's gang so they'll exploit him and keep them in a cage breaking bad style. 4) Leaving him in vault city where he becomes a doctor or something.

Get up and dance at my party Actually, it was a mistake by Bethesda. Jenkem is made from fermented human feces and originated in Africa, while Jet is made from the feces of irradiated and mutated cattle who were fed a contaminated pre-war protein extract. The origins are very different and while that could've been the partial inspiration for Jet, they were never meant to be the same thing.
