That's actually the knife I have in two different of my go bags, and strapped on my chest rig. Three total, it's an awesome thrower, and as long as Cold Steel crossed their T's and dotted their I's in production, it's a good, strong knife. I did sharpen the back end of that Tonto. I found it to be the perfect all-around utility survival knife to put in my go bags because of price and durability and multifunction use

Put a 550 lanyard on the end of it you can use it for chopping,

I have two of these. The knife is fantastic and very customizable. I really like the sheath and the lash points. I attached a Milspec bag to the sheath and it carries an Altoids tin survival kit and a back up folder. People don't want to spend a lot of money but want a great knife. This is one of those knives. You won't be sorry with this on your belt. Love the Aerodynamics Test portion of the video.

I have one of these. I put a ranger band on the handle so now it has a great grip. I had someone cut off the upper guard so now I can grip it far closer to the blade if I need to. Also sharpened the upper portion of the tanto. Now an EXCELLENT knife! Good review Bryan.

Awesome! I finally have a use for those tiny ranger bands! I have zillions of them

@@jasonbuzzalini5174 The ranger band I used was long enough to cover the whole handle. However, you could use several smaller ones spaced apart.

I have had one of these for years. I don’t use it often as it is a back up l knife. It isn’t a KABAR , Becker or Ontario. It is a decent blade. If I were in a situation, I would feel comfortable with his knife. There are torture test on KZbin where this knife held up well.
@theimaginariumnetwork56212 жыл бұрын
Honestly my favourite knife. Had mine for over 15 years. Rounded out the top quillon and rounded out the finger choil. And squared up the false edge for batoning. Bought a second one and tried to destroy it with bad bushcraft...couldn't. I think this is the best knife for outdoors, FULL STOP.
@joeyhinton82 жыл бұрын
I bought 2, customized 1 strider style, removed handle, stripped coating, camo mustard patina, and paracord wrapped handle. Looks great! The second one I just stippled the handle scaled with a harbor freight soldering iron, it’s a very easy material to stipple.

My first "real" knife. Still have it. Although the handle is a little small for me, the wife will switch between wearing this or her Schrade F30. Both are wonderful throwing knives.
@csh62202 жыл бұрын
That looks like a user friendly knife, and for the price, a no-brainer. I don't chop with a knife except for small limb clearing. For the people who are anti-batoning, simply refer batoning as "assisted carving". LOL Thanks bryan for all the great info you bring to us. $23 is such a great buy.

I got one years ago put in the backpack and put it in truck. In a backpack, for back up. Now let me say welcome to the Grandpa Club. My daughter had her baby last September he's 5 months old. The earlier model had a paracord wrapped handle. I would have preferred that one. The plastic handle is slippery when wet, and thus potentially hazardous. You might wrap this on with tennis racket tape.

Not a bad, very budget friendly, outdoor/ survival knife, it always accompanies me to the woods. As you demonstrated, it performs well enough at some bushcraft tasks. Not as good as a proper scandi ground knife, obviously, but it ticks a lot of boxes as an all rounder. My only real complaint was how slick the handle scales are. First I tried to overcome this by wrapping the handle, scales and all, in some gutted 550 Paracord, and it helped, but just marginally. Then a buddy of mine suggested using shrink wrap tubing, used for cork fishing pole handles, and it works like a charm! No more worry about the knife slipping out of wet hands!

This is a great knife, I love mine. The sheath has glass fiber so the blade was probably very sharp from the factory but when it was inserted and withdrawn the edge was dulled where it contacted the sheath. That is why the tanto part remained sharp. I make sure the back of the blade is pressed against the sheath when I insert and withdraw mine, so I don’t have to keep sharping it. If you use it for a throwing knife the edge retention won’t matter. The more I use knives the more I like 1095 carbon steel.

One thing some people who purchase this knife is that is a nice chunk of steel, already made into a usable knife, but ... It's like getting a knife blank, that is almost there, and there are a lot of videos of people doing mods on this. It comes in at a great price, and is suitable for a ton of mods. Very sturdy steel to use as is, or mod it out.

The amount of abuse mine has taken is absurd. Was my first Cold steel 15+yrs ago. It's my most beaten beater hahaha. Used hammers and rocks to pound it through wood, metal, plastic etc. The spine is practically serrated from being beaten on with things you should never beat a knife with. Still ticking, never had an issue

If I didn't already have decent quality budget knives stashed in every bag, satchel, took kit, vehicle, drawer, cupboard, nook and cranny (mostly Schrade's I picked up from back in the Schrade Saturday era, I still use them all the time, still have not broken one, they have never let me down) I would grab up one of these. As it is... I can't imagine where else I could stash a knife. not even a good one for $25. I don't throw knives so I can't even use that as an excuse. Good review, as always. I do like to at least know what's out there.
@papimaximus952 жыл бұрын
I really want to love Schrade's but I have seen way too many failures. The funny part is that all of the failures look the same. They literally snap in half or it looks like the Cookie Monster took a bite out of the blade.

I have said from the first time I talked about BDU that it really depends on what and how much stuff you buy whether it is a good value. I pay $99 per year and I have consistently saved at least that much every year I have been a member. I may not even buy anything some months but it is still a good deal for me.

Their old machetes, and spears, the true beater stuff was dad gone good for what you paid
