honestly yea, i think so too. its a "gril" gun and would be frowned upon using it. was personally abit surprised to see the sudden increase in popularity since it havent gotten changed in a long time as he says, except the price half a year ago or so. my preference depends whether i go with an ak or sg / m4 or aug depends on the map and playstyle

Nah. Still hate it because of its obnoxious recoil.. Ak is way easier to control. And who cares about the 100% armor penetration? They both the ak and the sg has the same hit. 4 shots to the body and arms, 3 shots for the stomach, 5 shots for the legs and 1 shot to the head. Ak is actually still better.. With its easy recoil control and a kinda reliable accuracy for tapping, i think its better. The sg is just.. Shit. Recoil is too much, slow movement speed and it's extremely hard for a spray transfer. It's only advantage is it's accuracy, that's it.. So yeah, ak still reigns

SGS553 is a monster. Is an auto sniper if you have the headshot accuracy. AUG... more or less like an auto scout

It would be a monster for tappers like ScreaM only, not the majority of sprayers. 553 has the hardest recoil in the entire game to master, and although pros spend a lot of time doing that, in extremely high-stress, high-stakes situations they will always fall to the lowest risk option. If missing the taps result in even a 10% reduced chance of winning a battle (compared with the AK), the pros will not take that risk. The reason AUG exploded in popularity is because its recoil is reasonable unscoped, and VERY low scoped. The risks involved were minimal in making the switch, for the average pro player who prefers spraying.

@@icehawk3442 For the first 15 bullets, SG recoil pattern is just down to the left in a diagonal line. It's super easy to learn. Also higher damage vs armor and higher rate of fire than AK (same as AUG actually). In a spray duel, AUG doesn't have a chance because of the 98 in 4 situations which never happen with SG. Maybe next major because the AUG had the benefit of having a similar spray pattern to the AK and made the switch less time consuming for pro players. Or it's really the fact that an SG in CT hands is too scary, so T's are forced to use the AK.

I'd use it if they remove the scope ability... I always hated that. You can't mix stats with skill and this is what they did. Is much easier to do basically anything with that weapon. If you have better aim but it's a range fight against the aug, then good luck. He can scope in and see you upclose before he slams a bullet into your face. doesn't matter how good or bad your aim is, with the aug it's better. I guess the only fair chance against it is up close where scoping doesn't matter that much, and it's all down to (basically) weapon stats, game sense, techniques and tactics,

Re: the idea of an isolated metagame developing and playing against ours, I think it would be amazingly interesting to see a neural network trained to play CS:GO, like AlphaGo and AlphaStar for Go and StarCraft 2. Both of those used strategies that pros had never even considered to consistently beat the top players in the world, and I think it could blow CS wide open.

Going back to this video after shutting down the Krieg era is kinda interesting The problem with AUG and SG meta is that they didn't meet at each other's popularity peek, especially in the pro scene. When CT's were using AUG's on daily basis, T's couldn't counter it, simply because they didn't know yet that SG i so powerful. When T's were using SG's on daily basis, CT's couldn't counter it, because AUG was already nerfed. We never witnessed a 5 AUG's vs 5 SG's battle to see which one will come out victorious, yet we had around 5 years (!!!) to find out. Maybe these would become new M4 vs AK47, but at the higher price level - as a reward for having good economy, but at a cost. Losing these weapons for both sides would be very harmful, essentially making them as much valuable as AWP (For CT's it's very expensive, for T's it is straight highway to hell when CT's get their hands on it). We have variety of weapons in early rounds when the economy is being built, but regular full-buy rounds are all the same 4 weapons. I think that Valve just took the easiest way to deal with the problem - by nerfing these rifles to the point, where cheaper ones are actually better in almost every aspect. It brought back the meta to the original state, but what is the point of having scoped rifles now? Its existence in the game isn't justified at all. I'm curious about what would happen, if Valve had increased prices of both rifles by 1000$ more than M4 for AUG, and 1000$ more than AK47 for SG. Sounds ridiculously high for a rifle, but it would be high-risk high-reward option, which you could afford only if your economy allows you to.

I think this is better for the game simply because a lot of people when thinking about Counter Strike, Think about 4 weapons: M4, AK, AWP and Deagle. Other weapons are in the game for various reasons, but for example they will never make M249 an objectively best automatic weapon in the game, because people simply would not like it. Counter Strike is more or less the same game for 20 years, and personally that's what I didn't like about the AUG and SG meta. But now, I still use these weapons when I feel like I will have long range encounters, SG and AUG is still amazing in that at least in my MGE games, but they don't dominate the game like they used to

This video made me think. And you're completely right by the way. If you gave someone CS:GO after the AUG/SG patch update, and they had no biased opinions before they played, I guarantee you that it would be alot different. Just like everything for that matter: Everyone does the same thing because we're all sheep and we didn't try or think about do things differently. Imagine just about driving your car. If they had different "road rules", different from everyone in every part of the world, that little portion of people would drive alot different than we do. I gave driving as an example, but you can use it for everything, really... Alot of people are closed-minded, not just in CS:GO, but again, in everything, and they just follow what every other person says/does. If you're learning something when you're a kid when you're growing up with your dad for example, you'll do it the same way he does. That's why when before, people thought of the AUG as being a noob weapon, everyone thought the same way, because well, we (me and pretty much everyone I know), just followed what they said, because we didn't have experience. This update makes us think alot, and in general, be more open-minded, not just about CS:GO, but about everything, in general. Maybe something that everyone of us thought that was really bad/stupid to do, isn't that bad or stupid to do, now is it? I'm just wondering what would happen if they: 1- Deleted the AUG and no one could use it anymore. (Just the SG on T-side because of the scope, which is bad for the T's), not saying this because the AUG is ridiculous right now, but instead giving an example for you guys to think about. 2- Keep the same price of both the AUG and SG as the M4's/AK respectively, and changed the team they could be used for. AUG = Terrorist side; SG = CT Side. This made me think alot, that way both teams would have 1hit headshot potential, regardless, so it would be ALOT less forgiving, if when you tried to attack a site (as a Terrorist), with an AK, which had a CT defending it (with an SG and use the scope), the game would NEVER be the same again.

It's so interesting to look back on this video. He was right on the money that the scoped weapons would stay in meta, now it's become like the AWP where having at least one in a buy round is the standard. Just like ak47s, CTs prefer stealing the T's Kriegs. Which is another crazy thing that professional casters have switched to a shorter name for the SG 553, since they have to refer to it all the time now.

I have always heard that the AUG was slightly better than both the M4s but the extra flashbang you could buy if you went with the M4s was a smarter choice in the long run. Now, why people didn't go with the AUG if they were enjoying a significant economy advantage over the enemy team is a mystery on it's own. AK-47 is still the handiest assault weapon thanks to movement speed and high power, exactly what T's need attacking a site. SSG is great for distant marksmanship but AWP can fill that role better. SSG isn't as specialized/minmaxed as the other weapons and that can contribute to its less commonplace use.

The speed is NOT a deciding factor, if it was, you would see T's dropping AKs for M4s (m4 has 225 movement). Also, the SG has MORE power than the AK (600 rpm vs 667)

Hey Philip, I hope this reaches you. I personally refused buying the AUG previously because it was just too expensive for me in order to justify buying it. If it had cost $3250, or even $3200, I would've used it a long time before the price decrease. While the one-hit-headshots and the smaller spray patten (while scoped in) are all nice, I never felt that it was worth it, compared to the M4A4 (which I've been using since 2014, actually). If you consider that you buy assault rifles between 5-8 times per half, spending an extra $200 each time wasn't just worth it considering everything is just fucking expensive on CT side. One's already at an economic disatvantage as a CT when buying incendiaries and defuse kits and leaving the helmet from time to time is only going to be effective at a limited rate too (e.g. buy vest for $650 -> take damage -> prepare for eco rush -> rebuy vest + acquire hemet for $1000 = $650 wasted). On the other hand, I already started picking up the SG553 in my "Octob553r" of 2017, so the update flying in (to the day) one year later was not as important for me. At that time, I was already familiar with the spray pattern and when to use the scope: Peek an angle, counter-strafe, zoom in, shoot (if neccessary), unscope and repeat (AWPers should already know this pattern!). This way, one can easily negate one of the main disadvantages people bring up when taling about the SG553, thereduced running speed while scoped in, because you're already slowing down/at a halt anyways when using it. What's left is the scope, with which you can clear headshot angles (like headshot on B cache or ramp on A site D2) like you mom's cleaning your room (although with a few more blood strains involved, tbf), and the superb accuracy. I guess everyone can recall a situation in which they had their crosshair perfectly centered on the enemy's head and the AK's bullet just went straight into the wall - this ain't gonna hapen with the SG553 anytime soon. Both the scope and the high accuracy are why i sarted calling it an AWPers nightmare: You can be F1-racecar-peeked and shot straigt into the head before you even knew what hit you. And just as you were about to call out where you think the bullet may have come from (or insult the killer's female ancestor), you see the kill feed lighting up a second time because your bomb site buddy just received the same treatment as you. 4 bullets fired, bomb planted, round lost. Nice. Furthermore, I believe that the call for the Dual Berettas to become (somewhat) relevant isn't that far off: It's the only pistol with which one can reliably spray with, together with the CZ. However, it has the advantage of not having to do a field assemby for the whole god damn thing when pulling it out and also incidentally a bigger magazine that the CZ's total ammount of bullets (mag capacity + reserve ammo). Likewise, I can see the XM1014 finally coming to play in the near future as the weapon to buy for the second round if T's managed to plant the bomb in the pistol round but lost nonetheless. Costing $2000 with a $900 kill reward and a close to always guaranteed one-hit-headshot kill together with with the elevated fire rate are just too good of a deal to miss out on. I, for example, decided to using the XM exclusively when defending B Long on de_abbey - the same could be done for defending Bathrooms/B Site on de_overpass, B Apps on de_mirage, Banana/Apps on de_inferno, Hut on de_nuke and Popdog/close to Ramp on B Site on de_train. Finally, maybe some people could try out some wallbangs with the R8 revolver (remember: it's as good for wallbanging as the SSG08 sniper rifle) and bring it into the game in that way, but as long as people can just spray and pray with the Deagle and pray to god that 2 bullets magically land on the enemy's stomach, I doubt that this is going to happen soon. Oh, and if you, Philip, would want to discuss weapon balancing in CSGO with me (for whatever reason), I'd happily do so too!

Pros already used xm on nuke hut and inferno Apartments. Problem is that you have to go close range and often it's easy to popflash you and then you have no chance to retreat. That's why on other maps is less atractive. On nuke pop dog you are stucked in pop dog then, cause you have medium or long range fights everywhere outside of pop dog. And every rifle is better for wall banging then r8 Revolver, especially when it blocks the dgl slot too.

IMO the Aug and SG have seen a usage spike only because of most pro players' preconceived notions being changed. From previous games, the unscoped rifles have always been better, and so most people who came to CS:GO used the M4s

I immediately preferred the A1s to the A4, because I think silencers are cool, and i like how it looks more. I quickly loved the AUG because of how it looks, the scope, and how "having a scope must mean its more accurate, especially if its more expensive". Influence plays a big factor in decisions in games. For example Dota 2 has one of the best examples of this. Different areas have a typical playstyle. NA was known as a "gather resources and win later in the game" Where as China was "Be super aggressive early and establish a lead and maintain it until you win". Same goes for the different heroes, some never really being picked in one region where as in another the hero is played differently and is seen in action.

Although I'm kind of sad that I'll no longer be the strange noob buying AUGs, I'm happy to see when people pulls stereotypes away and take differences seriously. As a rather old CS:GO player who tried both M4s and the AUG, and the AK and the SG553, I'm glad to see that people finally starts realizing that these weapons have a variety of uses where they can outperform the classics. It's a matter of time to let the T-Side realize about this on the SG as well, as Terrorists do defend and cover positions as well on certain maps and situations. As for now, the SG553 can do a better and wider coverage of situations than the AK-47. It just requires practice. Although there are certain maps and situations where the unscoped might be better (Both as personal use or against enemies stealing them), I'm sure people will eventually realize about it's power as well. Honestly, I'd want to see how would people play if the scoped assault rifles used the same slot as the unscoped ARs. Imagine the notable difference between players with AUGs, M4A4s or M4A1-S, or between AKs and SGs.

I think the AUG was somewhat OP, but pros didn't use it due to the couple hundred dollar price difference; why equip an entire team with AUGs when you can equip an entire team with M4s, grenades, and a crazy battle plan? However, the AUG probably saw more use by the average player because not everyone is as skilled with grenades and strats and all as a pro is, so it made sense for these people to spend the extra cash on an aug instead of a nade.

yeah, the aug/krieg price drop always seemed like a temporary measure to get people using them, befor upping the price again when people have noticed and learned how to use them. I suspect the biggest hindrance they had was familiarity. taking the time to learn a new weapon for only a marginal boost in effectiveness was prolly deemed not worth it by most, especially since the stronger weapon comes at the expense of a grenade or something

I'd recommend using the mp7 in eco rounds, in my case i always use it in every round since it has a good reward and gets me easy kills, the spray pattern is easy too, with all the money i save i drop my team a couple of rifles, then keep the mp7

I'm still curious as to why CT get two variants of the M4 yet T side have always been stuck with just the AK. I mean the AK itself in the real world has many variants - including silenced versions and shorter versions like the AK-U. the reason I use the AUG instead of the m4 ( it depends of the map tho ) it's when maps have big camp zones, I'd use the AUG since I'M FUCKING BLIND (myopia and astigmatism) so I barely see some pixels at large distances, but when maps are more likely to have close encounters I'd use the M4
