Regulating how children eat, how much they eat and how fast they eat is dangerous. When I was youner I'd get spanked if I didn't eat quick enough or finish all my dinner, even if I was full. Now I have a binge eating disorder directly linked to that trauma. I rush my food and make myself sick but I don't realise I'm doing it, I have trouble leaving food that's in front of me even of I'm full. I have trouble recognising when I'm full because I was so often forced to push past the boundary of Being full. I have a lot of feelings of guilt and stress around eating and food. I know people who's parents force fed them certain foods and now there's whole food groups they can't even face without feeling sick.

I'm so sorry you were put through that. I've seen a lot of bizarre attitudes with parents around food. They don't realize what that does. They say a child develops their natural food habits for life by the age of 6 or 7. It's one thing to teach educationally about nutrition too or the extreme where it's more diet speak. It's easy for kids to fear certain foods after what parents say. I know of a case where a parent died from diabetes, so the other parent banned all sugar in the home. It made one kid go to the extreme of hoarding and binging on sugar, and the other diet restrictive. I feel the kids need healthy guidelines, but also allow them some control as well, because control and food issues go hand in hand.

This is actually really traumatic for me to watch Sable and Cooper deal with Michael as my dad also does all this crazy dieting and is now Keto so he does no sugar or processed sugar high protein high carb. And this is AFTER I received treatment for multiple eating disorders in hospital for 2+ years. He is putting both of them at such high risk for disordered eating ESPECIALLY his 11 year old daughter. I am MORTIFIED. I pretty much don’t talk to my dad because he is so toxic with his food behaviors and opinions. Michaels comment “sugar should be classified as a drug” reminds me so much of many things he has said to me. It is extreme unsafe behavior especially for developing children physically, mentally and emotionally. I really hope they are not negatively affected in the future. Especially Sable. That dad making the other mother cry was disgusting and having that as an example was just terrible. however the other family needed more discipline in the sense that they needed more structure and probably less screen time because their behaviour was terrible as well especially the swearing at such a young age. My BIL used to do the same thing and I would toss out the extra food while he wasn’t looking -otherwise it was wailing and yelling. Kids do not need to overstuff their stomachs which are not that big! The Blonde wife needs to get control of her quads NOW or there will be hell to pay when puberty sets in. She needs to drop the sugar and carbs for sure. That alone will improve behavior and temper tantrums. I cannot believe a kid this age didn’t know how to tie his shoe! Glad he set that goal for himself! When I was a kid my parents never told me how to read a clock and moved me to a school where all the kids had been taught. That was humiliating. My parents meant no harm by doing very similar things at dinner with me, but I ended up developing an obsession with eating behaviors that developed into anorexia. Placing a child in such a high stress environment during mealtimes is so harmful. There are better ways of making your child eat for sure. @@libby9001 I'm so sorry to hear that you developed an eating disorder. This was my biggest fear with my daughter as I watched my Dad do similar things and the heartbreaking result it had on my sister. Before I had my own child, I thought I had it all figured out. We hosted our young nephew who had some eating quirks that I privately thought were ridiculous. Then I birthed my own picky eater! Because I was so focused on *not* making an issue over food because of my sister, I refused to force my kid to eat anything. We always offered her the choice to sample different things but never pushed it. It all came to a head when as a 9-year old she wanted to attend Brownie Camp. I was hesitant to let her go. The leaders asked to speak to me about it and I told them that I was torn between having her bullied and/or forced to eat or even have her refuse to eat. Kidlet assured me she was game, after having the situation explained to her so I gave my blessing and let her go. The Leaders were exemplary, no bullying allowed, Kidlet was offered different things to eat in a no-pressure way, and wanting to be like her friends, she actually came home willing to eat a few new foods. It was a great learning experience for all of us. Me learning to let go, Kidlet learning to be independent and the other Brownies learning that people are different. In the end, a growth spurt during puberty made picky eating disappear literally overnight and we never looked back. As a world traveller Kidlet turned out to be an adventurous eater. Behaviour and eating at the dinner table as kids are actually fraught with danger for lifelong problems.
