Rest in peace, CSGO. We hardly knew ye. CSGO's official support has ended as of January 1st, 2024. That means there will be no more updates like Operations or Skins or anything like that. You can still play the community servers on it, but that's pretty much it.
In this video we'll be looking at the 2011 PAX Build of CSGO and see what changes were made between then and release.

There's actually a different UI that came right after the original design. Its the one the game had for the longest but I dont recall the name. Panorama UI was the 3rd change they made to the Interface.

What you said about modern CS is so darn true. Modern multiplayer FPS gaming is so competitive it’s not even fun. I never played any CS because I was bad at it, but I dabbled in some CoD. When I tried MW2022 after not playing for years, the S W E A T and numbers and shit was so unfun. When the whole HL1 update dropped I tried out HL1 multiplayer, and people were just jumping around and fragging each other. Nobody sweating, just vibing, and it was great. Everything’s gotta be a fucking e-sport these days.

i agree with this sentiment, valve reallyy started changing the direction of csgo's art style when de_train was remade, and even more with the introduction of agents. though some cool things were added after that point which i think fit in well like the dangerzone (late 2018 - 2023 rip) and operation missions.

Valve games become worse and worse with every single update, sometimes its technical, sometimes its gameplay and sometimes its the artstyle and theme happened to every single one of their games TF2 got artstyle suffered with every new hat and got bloated, meet your match killed the community dota 2 got ruined after the source 2 and 7.00 rework both in artstyle and gameplay cs go early 2000 theme got changed for this new valve cartoony look and every single update made it more focused on comp play this is just my opinion but i stand by it, and i kind of wonder if their shitty writing(HLA) and cartoony visuals is a result of them acquiring campo santo the creators of firewatch

og CSGO was something else. I played most of my hours on it pre-2015. I was really irked when they added "skins" to the game, I thought theyd actually add model swaps and such like the stuff you'd find on Gamebanana. Instead it was just lootboxes of textureswaps and knives. Now CS2 is all cartoony and bright and the operators look more inspired by Apex or Valorant than something you'd find in the original game.

As much as I hate what Counter-Strike has become nowadays, I have to admit that the old builds of CSGO are quite the damn fun, and they were also much closer in terms of design and gameplay to CSS. I unironically had more fun with this and the private beta back in the day too (a friend of mine was lucky enough to be picked from the open survey back in the day). But the moment it released, was the moment it died to me, because it did everything in its power to forsake its roots as a community-driven game and turn its back to it in exchange for e-sports afterwards. In fact, the Arms Deal update probably marked the turning point for good. Sure, both 1.6 and CSS had a strong e-sports component and that cannot be denied - but it also cannot be argued that the balance between e-sports and community friendly was vastly superior in those games, and this was also back when friendly competition wasn't a long forgotten concept but one constantly enforced, primarily due to admins striving to keep things civil, welcoming, and clean on their servers. Good luck trying to play a multiplayer game, especially a competitive one, solo in 2024, see how far that gets. In fact, I blame CS:GO as one of the primary reasons for the spike in popularity of e-sports in the last decade and almost killing off singleplayer games, as developers were so eager to jump on the e-sports bandwagon. It was only towards the end of/halfway through the previous decade where things finally started turning around, from my point of view at least (thank God lol), in addition to rendering dedicated servers as a concept dead, exchanging them for matchmaking systems with virtual ranks and monetized cosmetics. It was bonkers what people could do in 1.6 and to a lesser extent in CSS on their servers, I'll never forget those days. None of that shit transitioned to CSGO, and the little that did, wasn't the same since the game got numerous rebalance updates that worked directly against the style and gameplay imposed by those mods. And of course, kickstarted the whole lootbox/skins insanity, which once again had a very negative effect upon the industry once publishers took notice and started monetizing the life out of their games. Shame that we'll never return to an old school competitive experience, I'd like to hope for it if CS:CO sees a proper release someday, but I'm not holding my breath for it. At the very least, if it does, we know that the target audience of the two have no overlap, so we might get some semblance of sanity for once.

Let me tell you the answer: The reason is Csgo was developed by Hidden Path Entertainment first and they didn't do much of a good job that's why so many weapon reload animations, models etc. were so bad and clunky. But if u look at L4D-2 which was made by Valve, had literally the best animation for guns and character models etc. for its time. So that's why Valve then took the Csgo on their hands and basically changed the animations and sounds etc. because how horrible they were.

06:10 I agree. Also the reason I stopped playing counterstrike at all. CSGO was not about fun anymore. It's just about "what's your rank", or "how to throw the smoke grenade correctly". Also most of community servers only are there to prepare for competitive matchmaking. Even most of the surf servers only concentrate on competitive: who is beating the best time and so on.

This is an absolute trip. I remember playing this build of CS:GO when I visited my dad's workplace at Hidden Path Entertainment back in 2010/2011, he was the UI & HUD artist and I vividly remember him working with the placeholder CS:S iconography that was a holdover from it's CS:S console port origins. Had no idea that the community had a hold of this build, but I'm so happy it see it has been preserved made available for the community to experience now for the first time and for me to be able to revisit again, as I thought the only copies of it that still existed were on the old hard drives of my dad's coworkers at HPE. Great video RadHaz. Live long the pre-microtransactions era of CS:GO!

While I'm personally not into CS, I think Valve should've made CS2 as a seperate game from CS:GO. I do understand why they updated the game instead, because CS:GO has so many players. But at least they could've kept the achievements from GO. This is why I hope Valve never does TF2: Source 2, but fortunately the chances for that are already 0%. Funnily enough they nuked a TF2: Source 2 fan project a while ago.

i'm not going to trash your opinion or anything, i'm just here for an open-minded conversation. most of the facts from this comment you have known by the time you wrote your comment. first of all, Valve didn't want to risk having CS:GO player base divided just like the time when CS:GO first released and almost everyone still playing on CS:S. by forcing everyone playing CS2 as it may help Valve accelerating the process of fixing the game, this couldn't be a problem if CS2 wasn't lack of old content on launch. there's also the skin economy that Valve has been building through out the life cycle of CS:GO and of course they didn't want to risk it as well. second, Valve has all the legal rights to take down TF2: S2 (even though TF2 has been on life support machine for a long time now). they will be only fine if you make your game/mod based on their IP from scratch and released it on an authorized platform (like Steam), not a total 1-to-1 asset conversions on an unauthorized platform (in this case s&box, there's a reason why s&box doesn't contain any HL:A assets unlike gmod). this rule could even be applied back then if someone decided to port the entire HL1 to an alternative platform like Unreal Engine or something. despite all of this, i still do hope Valve some days will going to be more transparent and communicative with our community.

Interesting. I have to try this build with bots. But I'm not a big CS GO fan simply because Valve turned a simple campy multiplayer game, that people used to play for fun, in to a gambling casino game. Sure, you could ignore all of the skins and stuff, but then you start to play online and people never stop talking about how their skins is cooler than your standard crap, and that gets on your nerves. And if that is not enough then every time you play online, some random guy from your team stops playing and starts gambling, literally right during the gameplay. Like, WTF dude? You came to play the game or you want your stupid casino crap?? And then yeah, cheaters. Cheaters ruins every single online game, and it includes CS GO too. And Valve's anti-cheat does do crap! It will rather ban none guilty players, who simply is skilled than actual cheaters. Sure, this was the case back in CS 1.6 and CSS days, but not as much as in CS GO days. Thus why, considering all of those problems that I mentioned, I rather play with bots in offline mode. But then again, that gets boring too quickly and then you just uninstall the game and play something else. So yeah, Counter-Strike needs much more revamp and rework than just taking it to new engine and calling it CS2. It needs full reboot because, it's gameplay gets too boring too fast and then there is other problems and... well, you just does not want to play it anymore. At least that is how it is with me. But just out of curiosity I had to try this PAX 2011 build. Just for scientific purposes, just to learn how it feels in comparison to final version and how different is the experience from it.

This game has literally sh*t on what made CS great, communities, and now it’s dead. Meanwhile, 1.6 is still kicking. Good riddance GO, you’ll not be missed.

So, I just tried this PAX 2011 build and... well, would you believe me if I say that I liked it more than the final version of the game? Cause, I really did! This PAX 2011 build works very, VERY smooth and I had more fun with it, where's with final version of CS GO I had to deal with FPS drops all the time. Thus this proves my theory that, game developers ON PURPOSE ruin their game's code so that people buy new hardware to be able to play new games. Because, like this PAX build works every smoother than CS Source. I don't know how or why but this is the case for me. Like, I recently decided to play CS Source on Windows 10 and it lags hard for some reason. And when I did a performance test, game determined that it could only work on medium settings. Imagine my confusion! But this build works very smooth. Sure, there is some little bugs here and there, and animations of weapons for the most part looks janky, but in general I like it very much. So yeah, I'm gonna preserve this version of CS GO for myself and will play it further down the line. Cause this is very interesting and I'm not even joking here.

For some games, certain graphics features just don't work well on modern hardware or aren't optimized. I don't know if that's the case with Source games, but I've been playing LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga and in most areas I'll get consistent 144FPS with my 2080 Super and then in some it will drop below 30FPS and none of the graphics options fix it. Not even in config files. I've had similar issues with F.E.A.R., y'know from 2005. So sometimes it's unintentional, but with some companies it's definitely intentional.

I don't think it's really making the game run worse on purpose really but more likely a combination of having remade quite a couple of maps with higher fidelity and so more demanding than the launch maps, and just code piling up over the years and devs not necessarily optimizing properly everytime

@@aSkyclad It's the same thing. They simply don't want to optimize it just to force people to buy new hardware to give money to hardware creators, so that they can make money. But in reality CS GO should be played on any hardware since 2007. Like, it runs on the same engine that HL2 and CSS does.

@@deathcold_longplaysua4846 Yeah no, this ain't how this works. While the basic engine is Source, it had a *lot* of features added to it over the years making much more demanding, and you also start to kinda hit a wall where you reach engine limits. Like Black Mesa should be able to run super great on any modern system, but truth is, it's not always the case, cos the engine simply doesn't know how to fully use the hardware and throwing raw horsepower to it just get less effective as time goes by
