This is one of the very few 1 pocket games I've been able to sit through from beginning to end. The commentators remarked about how they don't understand why lots of folks think 1 hole is the most boring game ever...here's why. 99.9% of all 1 pocket games take more well more than one hour to finish-too often they go upward of 2 or 3 hours. Even good players in the local pool rooms spend hours passing up shots at their own holes in order to play some complicated kind of safe shot. There are way too many guys who think the game is all about defense. This is one reason I like Scott Frost and a very few others out there. Once they get even a half way good look at a ball they go for the shot and then they're off and running. Scotty demonstrates amazing knowledge great shot making, perfect strategy and very few of his games (racks) take more than 20 minutes give or take...that being said I also don't particularly like watching 9 ball either for obvious reasons. 8 ball and straight pool are fun to watch because like Scott in a game of 1 hole, once a guy gets a look they can run right out...fun to watch that. Especially in straight pool where guys sometimes run upwards of 80, 90, 100 balls before they miss or have to duck. Also just like in 1 hole, 8 ball and straight pool require the players to use every imaginable shot...follow, draw, force follow, spin inside or outside, soft hit, firm hit...caroms...knowledge and talent always on display - again fun to watch - especially for a knowledgeable fan. Gotta know what you're looking at in order to fully appreciate it.

On that final game, I wonder how much the commentators influenced the outcome. A few times they did not see a shot, until the commentators got loud talking about what should be played, only to have them use the shot. Earlier in the match it was made known they could hear the commentators. Shouldn't they keep quieter so they don't influence the game?
@stevestewart62872 жыл бұрын
Let's get real John, Frost and Bustamante are 2 of the best 1 pocket players in the world, do you think the guys doing commentary could point out a shot they did not already see. Even if the players could hear them, they ignore it and tune them out. They are focused and they do not pay attention to what some guy doing commentary is saying. When I play pool I am so focused on the game and the shot I dont see or hear anything but the ball I am shooting at. I have run a table on someone and when it was over the asked me about a shot I made, and sometimes I do not even remember what it was because I was so focused on running out. When you are at the table you do not hear what people are saying, you just focus on your shot and your position.
@johnhoush43662 жыл бұрын
@@stevestewart6287 There are a lot of options in 1 pocket. They could easily not see something until they heard something. I'm not saying they did, but it does look like it at times.
@briangc19722 жыл бұрын
@@stevestewart6287 Even the best players miss or overlook something. So John has a valid point; especially when the players are not even seeing the shot the commentators say to play then they shot the very shot. Most commentators say too much and are too loud. If they even shoot pool, they would be whining and complaining if someone was talking as much and as loud about their game as they do to these competitors.
@geoff1827 Жыл бұрын
Just watched the final game. I didn't see any instance where the commentators may have influenced the shot. Most of the time they shot a different shot than what the commentators said anyway. Though I agree that the players should never be able to hear the commentators. But I would think that when a player is playing, even if they can audibly hear something, they are blocking it out anyway. And BTW great out by Busty in the final game, a couple really good positional shots.

You can come see me, I only charge $50 per game... That I win.. lol.. Great match, but pool is just goofy to watch (I'm new to it). Here they play with goofy balls, which by itself isn't bad, but the commentators don't bother to learn which is which. So the whole match Jay is calling the 13 ball the 11 and the 11 the 15, and neither one of them can tell the difference between the six and the seven. So the whole match I'm trying to follow what they're talking about, but first I have to translate the ball they say into the ball they mean, which makes it about 150% harder to follow. It's always something in pool. Still, I'd rather watch pool than most things on KZbin and I'm glad this match is posted and all.

What should players do if there arent enough balls for a player to run out in in one inning? For example, owing one ball initially, francisco runs out to win the last game. In that particular game, there were enough balls for him to do so. If Scott were on 7 balls and 8 balls were left for Francisco to run, but he owed 1 so he needed a total of 9, how do players proceed? Does Francisco spot a ball after his first made shot and continue the inning? Does Scott spot a ball? I've had this situation come up and I didnt know how to deal with it. thx in advance, Cheers

@rmartin74179 жыл бұрын
+John Cohmer I believe he fouled for safety into the rack putting him owing one ball (-1), after Scott shot .. Francisco ran 9 balls.. 1 to get him to even then 8 more to get him to 8.. he didnt have to spot a ball because he ran 9 consecutive balls to get himself out of the hole. He doesnt have to spot a ball until he misses. Being that there were enough balls on the table to complete the win there was no need for him to spot his owed ball. Illegally Pocketed BallsAll spotted. Special spotting rules: When a ball(s) is pocketed in a non-target pocket, spotting is delayed until the shooter's inning ends. Should a player legally score the last ball(s) on the table while any illegally pocketed balls are being held for delayed spotting, those balls are then spotted so the player may continue the inning.

great match. but the commentators really need to get the balls right. i know the cyclops balls look a little different but the only balls they really should be confused about are the 7 and the 15. so frustrating when they call the balls the wrong numbers. its not that hard.
@ColbyMasonMusic5 жыл бұрын
I came here to say the same thing but I see you've got it handled. Cyclops balls aren't too difficult to differentiate.
@teutone58662 жыл бұрын
After 35 years of playing mostly one pocket, and with Aramith balls, and I am not a fan of Cyclops. The transparent outer layer on the cue ball is different, and aside from a tiny difference in weight, Cyclops balls skid more. The balls are made in China, so they are cheaper, and people fairly new to the game may like the brighter colors. Aramith probably has patents on color and design of their balls, and Cyclops had to make their sets different in appearance. Otherwise, they likely would have been happy to use the Aramith ball designs and colors. Diamond billiard / pool tables saw a market niche, and being the sponsor of many tournaments with tables as well as distributor of the balls, are getting the balls exposure online etc. That's just good marketing. Jack Cooney used to be on the road with his own set of Brunswick Centennial balls (also made by Aramith).
@charlesfair15822 күн бұрын
Not just the 7 & 15, also the 6 & 14. But not just that, I agree with the person that said they play different. And no one has a copywrite on the ball colors. And there are plenty others out there changing the ball colors. Pink four (for tv) didn’t even work. The worse (even worse than Cyclop)) is Matchroom Inc. changing the colors between two balls! Their PURPLE five ball is the worse atrocity ever in Pool. Just undeniably STUPID!!! Now Matchroom ( Barry Hearns) has certainly done many good things in pool. But just let someone try to switch a couple of Snooker ball colors and you would certainly hear the whole world HOWL. They have No respect for pool. (I suspect it is Emily Fraser to blame) Barry refuses to stand up to her. So BOO to Matchroom. The Mosconi Cup and THE U. S. OPEN should both be boycotted along with any other excellent Pool venues by Matchroom. That Purple five ball should cause Matchroom to be banned from having any thing to do with Pool. !!! World Wide. Well, guess I have expressed how I feel about the purple five ball. Later 😊
