Why watch this video if you are going to tell the ending in the title. You’re like the person that tells the ending to a movie or the final scores of a game you haven’t seen.

Frost, your bitterness over your loss to Shane spoils the value of your commentary.

Yeah frost refers to himself way to much in the commentary. It lacks character i think...... commentators should always be candidly self-depreciating out of respect for the match being commented on at the moment. I wish Billy I. and some of the other fellas from that generation could call every match for eternity ! You always get good laughs then :)

+Che Darke Frost is one of the most dominating players of 1p and he is easily one of the most experienced player ever in the realm of one pocket. I understand your opinion (and i do agree with it to a certain extent) but if anyone has the right to be a tad conceited about this particular game of billiards its him.

+Stephen Lamb Not really. Being a great player doesn't give one a license to be a jerk imo. Also, he lost to Shane so Shane deserves some respect in that sense.

Did you even watch the whole match? Shane scratched 2 or 3 times in the second game alone. Personally, Id show Shane a mountain of respect because I cant string 4 balls together but Frost is one of his peers. There's no reason for him to sugar coat how god awful shane played that second game.

StephenLamb. Maybe Frost should have played better himself and got into the finals so that he could play 'one of these no talent bums'.

Maybe the guy is a great player, but that doesn't mean he should be commentating. He's talking about how good he is, how he likes to play, talking about his $15,000 cue, etc. Maybe he's earned the right to have an ego, but they shouldn't have given him a microphone

The Cyclop cue ball plays better than the measle. The measle feels heavier and in some cases it is not the same diameter as other sets at your random pool hall. We get way more cases of the measle ball popping up on contact.

I just watched a match where Dennis loses to Shane and Dennis won't even look into his eyes while shaking his hand. On the other hand, Shane loses in this match but he smiles and looks at Dennis's face while shaking his hand. Learn something Dennis. Same thing happened in the Derby City and people were comparing Dennis and Alex. I can't believe he learned nothing from the great Efren Reyes.

I understand why Frost is in pain watching this game. Shane and Dennis are probably playing worse than they have all tournament. Frost is forgetting that Dennis played a 3 hour match vs Deuel earlier, and Shane played against Bergman and Deuel earlier, so they are both exhausted. Frost does give out a whole bunch of useful info though, which I appreciate.

I watched the match between Shane and Scott that he keeps whining about. Scott won the first two games and had a 7-0 lead on Shane in the third game. He went for some wild off the rack shot and ended up losing the match. He was whining during the match as well.

I heard another announcer say Appleton and several other pros who play 3 pocket (or bonus ball) now like that game better than one pocket. Hmmm? I wonder. It certainly is far more watchable. Was watching Duel/Orcollo and finally had to set the speed 2X. I swear Duel was taking 5-6 minutes sometimes on a shot....like watching baseball or soccer when the final score is 1-0, at least for me. Would be better to watch with a 1 minute shot clock, with one 3 min extension/game, or edited to just the shots. This one is FLYING compared to that match. Probably why a clock was instituted in chess???
@estebanstrangiato
@estebanstrangiato 8 жыл бұрын
+John Sikes Keep in mind this is the US Open. Outside of Derby City this event is like the olympics of pool. Sure, Deuel took his sweet time, but one pocket is not a game to be rushed. If you want speed watch a rotation game or speed pool. Also, just because chess uses a clock sometimes doesnt mean they always do. Im sure a chess match wont take 3 hours, but it probably gets close to that in certain settings

+Stephen Lamb Speed pool. LOL. I have actually watched a few matches of that and they have their own needed skill set, something I could probably do better at than the games I play, the way everyone tells me to slow down ;-). I understand and agree that one pocket can be slow, especially at the top pro level where even one slightly blown safe rock placement often costs the game. Was just commenting on the watchability at that speed, which was the slowest one pocket I've ever seen....painful to all but a real one pocket enthusiast/player. One of these years, I'm GOING to get to Derby City, but will probably be watching mostly other games. Also, I think rotation games at the pro level tend to be somewhat boring if played too slow, or just run out after run out monster packs. There I enjoy good kick safety play a lot. I also enjoy the games more when miced and the player(s) are discussing their strategies, works well in scotch doubles play, especially 8 ball.

Once the game starts, Commentators should not be jabbering on about ANYTHING - except the game play that is occurring live right in front of them. No talk about - thanking sponsors, previous match results, casino winnings, para mutual betting, old war stories, what somebody ate for breakfast, upcoming pool events, who played who in the past, who's the best pool player, whatever, no matter how interesting - is detracting and demeaning to the action that is taking place. The proper place for that is before the match starts, when the player action is on a lengthy break, or after the game/match is over and before the next one begins. Ex. Game 1, Shane's 1st shot. ~2:00. Commentators busy jabbering and not really paying attention, blurt out - "The angle he went at it threw it the wrong way.", "I didn't really like that shot." Wrong, wrong, wrong. The shot was really quite good, and should have won the game outright, but a rather fluky multi-ball kissing event spoiled it. See it for yourselves. Commentators need to pay attention, or keep mouth shut if not able to pay attention.

At 1:41:55, why doesn't Shane draw off the 5 to make the 2? Then he'd have an easy bank on the 8, then the 4, etc. Maybe it's just me. Imagination seems lacking.

+Peter Senna yeah, well the 8-ball bank with the 2-ball as soldier there was unmissable. Jacked up is not much of a problem for such an easy shot, and wins the game 99.99998%(lol) due to easy position on remaining balls after pocketing the 8-ball. Shane also shoots the cut on the 2-ball, with the WRONG (inside) english, if he wanted to actually make the 2-ball. No way that was a "mistake" (was it lack of imagination, or screwing up on purpose?), but had such a strong position, that he ended up winning this game a few shots later - with some extra help from the infamous "Diamond Roll", 1:46:30 which veered the 15-ball at least 3 inches offline towards his pocket. 1-piece slate on this table must be factory 2nd reject like many others. Imagine that!

Shane is probably the best in the world. He's GREAT for the game. I just think if he'd show a little personality, he'd be much more popular and draw many more fans to the sport, which will beef up the prize money over time.

Scott Frost is tremendously over-rated as a one pocket player. He has promoted himself as being the greatest one pocket player in the U.S. and the commentators have followed suit for so long that Scott actually believes the hype. As a commentator, he makes a good stone mason. I have actually seen him play a respectable game of one pocket whenever he tries to play a conventional style...but as soon as he goes into his "power one pocket" mode he plays solidly as a shortstop. What a joke!!
