Scaling AI-enabled Capabilities at the DOD: Government and Industry Perspectives

This event will examine government and industry perspectives on scaling the use of AI and autonomy across the DOD. This event will be livestreamed on March 26 from 9:00 am - 11:00 am.
The event will begin with a panel discussion with Navy Captain M. Xavier Lugo, Algorithmic Warfare Division Chief for Artificial Intelligence Scaffolding/Integration at the Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO), and Colonel Matthew D. Strohmeyer, Joint All-Domain Command and Control Experimentation Division Chief at the CDAO. This panel will cover the CDAO’s principal efforts to scale the use of AI and autonomy across the department, focusing on its AI scaffolding initiatives, the Global information Dominance Experiment series, and how it is adopting generative AI through Task Force Lima. This panel will be moderated by Gregory C. Allen, Director of the Wadhwani Center for AI and Advanced Technologies.
The panel will be followed by a fireside chat with Mr. Jason Brown, General Manager for Defense at Applied Intuition. This dialogue will focus on how industry contributes to the development of AI-enabled capabilities at the DOD, the technical needs of the DOD when it comes to AI and autonomy, and how industry and government can better work together to deliver AI-enabled capabilities at scale. Mr. Brown will be joined by Gregory C. Allen.

We need to try to get the procurement process so that the vendors provide 3-D models and the engineering data before they build a production model. We need to have a full simulation, where all of these procurement models can be tested in their environment before we’ve ever built anything. AI start riding the technical manuals when we decide that we want to procure the item in full because it’s working so far in our simulated environment.

Design the system that everything from raw resources, manufacturing, procurement and funding are tied together automatically. when we know what everything cost and then when there’s free time on the manufacturing line, we can make our process in the country much more efficient which we really need to do because we don’t have the manufacturing base that we used to. We need to supply them the platform to feed the data into automatically. We should be able to look at our satellite imagery and see how much resources we are extracting and know that our process is working. It’s all about big data. : ). We need cameras, watching us pack our pallets to make sure we take everything with us. : ) Trying to track inventory when you’re on mobile is a complete pain and if you’re missing one wrong thing, you can wipe out an entire system . One is all it takes. For example, I had a box that had maybe 30 RF connectors in it and if I opened it as I was doing the inventory prior to putting it on the pallet and the camera saw it go back and set a reminder that I either need to find it or order it, and if I don’t intervene, it orders it and then notifies my chain of command.
