My wife and I were driving to the hospital after her water broke before our daughter was born and this song was playing as we drove. I can't hear this song without thinking about the wonderful day my daughter was born.

Oh, your heroes are so wonderful, fanboi. You sound so bitter and old. Really, champ, you can’t enjoy this wonderful music without being extremely negative about other music?? Crosby actually didn’t look too good. It looks like he actually just got out of jail. But go on with your bitterness. I guess it brings some worth to your fragile being. 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏿‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

I moved to Hawai’i in 1985. Taught myself to sail and ended up sailing larger sailboats to other islands and down to the Marquesas and Papeete. (Polynesia and Tahiti) I will ALWAYS remember seeing the Southern Cross “for the first time.” Hawaii is in the Northern Hemisphere just above the equator-21degrees latitude. The “Southern Cross” constellation is only visible just above the Southern Horizon from Feb to May. When you are far out at sea you only hear the sounds of the wind in the sails and the creeking of the wooden hull. You get so far away from city lights that you can actually see our galaxy--The “Milky Way!” As we were heading into Molokai for the first time early before sunrise (I had sailed all night--you don’t stop) this guy said “Helen look to 180 degrees on the Compass"--South. There she was! Just “hanging in the sky!” This huge constellation of just four stars--the Cross. This song had just come out. I cried tears of joy. I “realized just why I came this way!” Moving to the Hawai’ian Islands on my own..no job, knowing no one, no place to stay was the BEST thing I ever did! I live aboard a sailboat I renovated myself--off the grid. No electricity, no running water off Honolulu and work in the city--but come home to this boat, this sanctuary.

Why did Crosby get so much credit for things when Stills mostly rewrote this song and sang most of it? I don’t understand why Crosby, rest his soul, received so much notoriety and Stills so little, when Stills seemed to be much more all around talented and, as reported by many, to be a much better person personally.

I remember watching this very performance on The Tonight Show back in 1987. I just remembered it, googled it and voila. They were appreciative and agreed.

One of my FAVORITE CSN songs. I remember when I first heard it on the radio, I immediately knew that this was a hit and they would be touring. I had just moved to Tampa, FL. and sure enough! I was exactly right and they did go on tour. I finally got to see them live in Lakeland, FL. It was the first time I had seen CSN together, live, in concert. My fiance bought the tickets for my wedding present. We got married the next day, but divorced 5 yrs later. But I'll never forget that concert. I could barely breathe when I saw the three microphone stands waiting on the stage for my 3 idols to take their places in front of. And when the boys came out, it was as if time and space stopped! That moment is frozen forever in my memory. I was in HEAVEN thru out that entire 2 hour concert. I saw them many more times during the next 15 yrs I lived in Florida and even got to meet CSN a few yrs later. I went to every show they did in Florida during those 15 yrs, but I'll always remember that first one with those 3 mic stands, and then seeing the guys come out and start singing. And of course they did Southern Cross. It was the Daylight Again tour. And now, whenever I hear Southern Cross, I relive those first moments. It always makes me shiver as I remember seeing my guys and hearing them live for the first time. Heaven. Just pure, unadulterated, HEAVEN on EARTH!!!

It was 1968 I think. I was 17, my older brother was going to USC and somehow got tickets to see CSN at UCLA. He took me and just before the concert started the clowns at UCLA dropped a curtain down in front of all the USC invitees so we couldnt see the band. CSN refused to play until they lifted that curtain. They were a class act all the way around. My favorite band to this day.

They didn't start playing together till 69, the year their first album came out. When they played at Woodstock in August of 69, they said it was only the second time they had played to an audience.

And they knew the “applause” sign was on. You didn’t get tickets for “csn on the tonight show.” You got tickets for “the tonight show.” I bet half the audience didn’t even know who they were.

@@sludge4125You are far too young to be so cynical. CSN (and Neil Young) was one of the first folk bands, played at a Woodstock and were referred to as “The American Beatles.” Their harmonies will never be duplicated and they were considered national treasures by the time of this Carson appearance in 1987. They didn’t need an applause sign.

Think about this for a second. Actually think about it. Somewhere, there are 46 people who watched this unbelievable performance and thought to themselves, “I’m not that impressed”. Then they hit the dislike button. Mind blowing.
