He was off by two years. Then, when our teachers gathered us all in the gymnasium to explain what our country going to war would mean, and I shuddered as lights flickered ominously above they told us that no, there would be no nuclear attacks, and that we would always be safe in America. We sang songs and wrote letters thanking people we'd never meet for our safety. Ten years later, I learned that those teachers were wrong. However, it was also there, in that gym, that I knew, no idea how or why, but that I'd be in Iraq someday. And I was. I celebrated four birthdays there. No more.

I was ten years old when this came on the television, and I still remember it. I also remember the incredible amount of patriotic propaganda that filled American society at the time. The first school day after the war broke out all of a sudden, right after the pledge of allegiance, they played "God bless the U.S.A." by Lee Greenwood over the PA system. Every single morning for the entire rest of the school year we had to listen to that song and then observe a moment of silence. Our morning class started with assignments to collect newspaper clippings and discuss how the war was progressing. It really was an interesting time in this country.

As Bush said, where nations interact with the rule of law, not the rule of the jungle. A world order the UN founders intended. Like the one we currently have almost completed where countries get together, have a seat at a council and try to figure out solutions for diplomacy instead of war over. The reason its a buzz word is because republicans(which I am) are anti globalists because theyre worried intermingling law(synonymous with order) with other countries will invalidate the freedoms we enjoy in the US. Which is great thinking, except the fact the UNs job is to mediate matters of interactions between countries. Somewhere somehow, someone took too many leaps of logic, left their critical thinking skills behind and figured the UNs purpose is to unite nations together into one big supernation, subsequently undermining our US freedoms. That would make a great armageddon novel, but the fact is its not the purpose of the UN. It wasnt founded on that, it doesnt operate like that, and its not taking steps to become that. It serves one regular much needed purpose of giving non racist, social, diplomatic, representatives of different countries a place to meet up, draw up proper laws that guide nations in matters of conflict and trade, and make things like the Russia-Ukraine conflict a lot less likely. Theyre similar to the federal government of the states but for countries instead and they dont have a military. And theres no need for a military because thats for each individual country to deal with. Their only goal is to make laws as guidelines. Countries will never merge their governments and militaries and because of that their should be some democratic system of law that holds everyone accountable concerning disputes. Its another form of diplomacy disguised as law. Unlike normal law though it has no physical force to enforce it so its still up to countries and their militarys to do as they wish regarding the dispute with another country. Its just likelt that if they do not adhere to the law and rulings of the court then other countries will not be too fond of that and sanction them, and in worse case scenario band together and go to war against them.
