As much as I don't care much for CSX, Blue Down and YN2 will always be my favorites. If that fictional YN2 scheme was made into a real paint scheme, that would be the best paint scheme of any of the Class 1's, probably only being challenged by the BNSF fakebonnets.

Well at this point you could probably put YN3C down with the YN3 lol, the scheme has been around for 2 years and locos get dirty fast, a lot of them just blend in with the regular YN3 units. I do agree with these rankings though, YN2 is my personal favorite and it’s a shame that it won’t be around too much longer

I’ve always loved YN2, it’s just simple perfection and everyone knows it. YN3 onward is still pretty good, they just haven’t been able to top YN2. YN3B is my favorite of the YN3 variants like how it looks on the GP38 & 40-2s. The stealth blue livery has never really been a big favorite to me, it was different for the time even if I find it a little plain.

I know that many railfans seem to prefer the YN2 paint scheme for CSX, but personally I like the YN3 paint scheme the best because of how it looks in the darker blue, and mustard yellow along with the white on the top of the cab. Also I still really enjoy the CSX boxcar logo, even if it's overrated nowadays on their engines.🔵🟡

YN3 is nice, I’ll admit. Blue and yellow just go together very well, and I do prefer YN3 over most other railroads color schemes. YN2 (at least to me) just looks fancier than YN3, while also looking great on everything. Santa Fe actually pioneered the YN3 scheme with their “pinstripe” or “billboard” scheme. That looked good on both their standard cabs and their wide noses (which were F-units, F45/FP45s, and U30CGs). Simple but flashy. And, like pinstripe, YN3 (and variants) look great on standard cabs (and the F40s and 9969). YN2, on the other hand, is more like warbonnet. It was made for a wide nose (CW40-8) and was meant to compliment its angles. Because CSX was going to use it on standard cabs as well, they actually came up with a version that looked good there. My only problem with YN2 on standard cabs is when they run LHF (which geeps and SD40s do a lot), because then it doesn’t quite work. YN3 doesn’t have that limitation, though. I can see both sides of the argument, honestly. If CSX went with what Santa Fe did and had both schemes for different roles, YN2 would be the equivalent to warbonnet and used on the higher-end, more-powerful locomotives (mostly wide-nose heavy-hauls), and YN3 would be for the lighter equipment, like geeps and SD40s. And, of course, there could always be units from either category in the other’s scheme (Santa Fe had GP60Bs in both warbonnet and freight bonnet).
