Thanks,just adjusted mine. Supercub,took longer to find a screwdriver and spanner than adjustment. All of 60 seconds to do. Bike on 1200 miles and needed doing. Thanks for posting video.

Being an Irvine is nice, but it's kinda like being stuck in the middle of a zoo because California is just gone crazy, in some places. Anyways, your videos take me to these little country roads and get my imagination thinking about little motorcycles, and big open spaces. i'm about to hit my 8000 mile oil change and valve adjustment. even though my bike is shifting good i think i might need to at least check out my clutch for the first time. i have been changing sprockets front and rear on mine and found honda has it down pretty close on the top speed. being stock you not going to get anymore speed. so ended up going 15/41 almost the same gear ration. but at least of i can find a place around here and go off roading with out getting the law called on me. i can drop the front and get more power.

Did you hear about the gear shifter lever recall? Something about weak welds possibly making it susceptible to fracture. I had no clue until I read it on the Trail125 forum. I think every bike they have sold thus far probably is on the list by vin. Reason being when I called my dealer to inquire they already had 3 new shifters on hand. I know they only sold 3 units so Honda must have just preemptively sent them as service did not know about the recall until I brought it to their attention. I have an apt tomorrow for mine. Hate dragging my bike all the way to the shop just for that, but they won't just swap out levers as Honda requires them to do the install for warranty purposes. Just sharing.

Yes sir, found out about it a couple weeks ago and got the new shifter. I think I'm going to do the breakaway head one for a crf250 on mine soon. As much rocks and rough terrain as we ride, I think it could benefit from it. A CRF250L shifter is supposed to fit right on it.

can you explain how and why this works please? whatever position my adjuster screw is in, makes no difference on the feel of the clutch bite.

Follow this to a tee, as the clutch wears, it'll need to be adjusted. This just places the correct amount of free play in the arm that engages and disengages the clutch. That mechanism is hooked directly to the foot shifter internally. If it's still not grabbing correctly, you may have a different issue. What kind of issue are you having exactly? It could be inherent to design possibly.

@@PSBEadventures thanks, my shifter feels nice, never had any issues with it being crunchy or anything, the clutch seems a little lazy to engage. if you pin the throttle in 1st, it'll take a good 10-20ft before its fully bitten. bike only has 2700 miles on it

@racerboyeddie they are pretty high geared. Get you a 13t ft sprocket maybe. It'll help it a ton. Make sure no car oil in it

@@PSBEadventures thanks, I've changed the sprockets to a 15/45 which has helped a bit, knocking the ratio up to 3.00 but I don't know the service history on the bike so it could well have car oil in it. I'll change it asap

I'm right at 1,400 miles and have not noticed any slippage or hard shifting. Do you think I still need to adjust it? Or I can leave it be until I experience any of the above mentioned symptoms? Lastly, a bit off topic, but in your opinion is it preferred to let this specific engine warm up a bit before driving off on it after a cold start? Thank you in advance for any insight 🙏

Hey man, hope all is well. If it seems to be smooth and trouble free I think you can leave it. Mine was a bit notchy going into 2nd and adjustment cured it. As far as it warming up, in my opinion any internal combustion engine will benefit from a bit of a warm up before taking off. It gets the oil up to temp and circulating. The piston grows up to .0005" as it warms or more and the engine will overall benefit from it. Definitely will help the longevity of it for sure.

Hey first off I want to thank you for your videos. I enjoy them and they are informative. I bought a 2021 Trail 125 Service Manual when I got my bike. I like doing things myself when I can and feel competent. My manual doesn't tell you much about servicing anything in my opinion. Its like a 1/2" thick maybe. Maybe I need a different manual. Anyway, is the bike supposed to be in neutral for this adjustment. I have almost a 1000 miles on it now. Haven't adjusted anything yet.

Appreciate you taking the time to stop by the channel. It shouldn't matter if it's in gear or neutral for the clutch adjustment I wouldn't think. You are simply adjusting the pivot point where the shifter clutch arm engages and disengages the clutch. Thanks again!

Thanks for the reply. I have adjusted it. I haven’t rode it since but it should hopefully be fine. I recently learned that the newer Honda Service Manual has been basically condensed because of environmental impact. Some tree hugger has basically caused the manual to be less than useful on a lot of stuff. For the price it cost I’m pretty ticked over it. I wouldn’t recommend anyone wasting their money on it. It doesn’t even tell you how to adjust this. Only the locknut size(14mm) and the torque. So I’m very thankful for your informative video. I haven’t looked but I think at 1000 I’m supposed to check the valves. I don’t think that’s in there either. I know I saw a video on line about doing that. Maybe it was from you. Did your valves need adjustment or were they good. Thanks again. EE

@@luvbgrass yeah, unfortunately all the manufacturers have swapped to online manuals and you have to be a dealer to get it maybe. It's gotten ridiculous and I 100% agree with you that's its nonsense. I didn't have to move the valves at all on the 600mi service. So I'll leave them alone from here out unless it has an issue. Check them once at 600-1000 and forget them. I've checked 100s of thousands of valves I'm sure over the last 30 years and had to move like 2 valves on inspection. If a Honda valves moves, something is wearing out.

I personally really like to stick to the GN4 for my bikes. If it's MA2 certified for wet clutches though, I don't see what it would hurt. Totally up to you.

So I started out doing small engines in the early 90s for an awesome fellow locally and then went from there to the automotive repair world. I missed the small stuff so bad I started my own small atv and single cylinder dirt bike repair business in early 2000 on the side. In 2011 my wife and I opened an automotive repair facility at home. Today I noticed something odd with my shifting. I'm right at 1,600 miles and have not adjusted the clutch adjuster nut yet. My transmission has always shifted fine, no slippage, it felt like each shift was a solid firm and deliberate. Just now I went to ride it and my shifting felt very easy all the sudden. I know that sounds weird, but it almost feels like I could shift it with just socks on all of the sudden. It almost feels too easy. There's still no slippage and it is riding fine. But I kind of liked the solid clunk of the shift lever before, now its a bit to feathery. I did my second oil change about 50 miles ago. First at 600 the second around 1,550. Do you think the engine just officially broke in or does it sound like I should adjust my centrifugal clutch bolt? I definitely do not want it to shift any easier though. Thanks for any insight.

@@findingneutral no problem! Another good test is when under load in 3rd or 4th on an incline cruising, gently lay your foot on the shifter, just gentle pressure bairly shouldn't cause it to slip. It should take moderate to medium pressure to make it slip some.

@@PSBEadventures Well I just could not resist at least attempting the clutch adjustment. I followed your directions exactly. Even took a photo of the adjustment screw position prior to messing with it. Went through the steps and the screw ended up right back in its original spot. So this difference in feeling just must be the engine breaking in. I went and test drove it up the road and no issues. My paranoia kicked it from a bad experience on a 50 year old CT90 I had trying to adjust the clutch. Ended up making it worse 🥵. Anyways thanks for your advice.

Hey bro...when ur riding off road, do get a clunk sound around the top of the forks when you hit an occasional hard bump. Any ideas on this?

I have def heard that especially when cold. I think it is the gas valving when it's cold. I am pretty sure it's perfectly normal. When you ride next time see if it goes away after you ride a while. Mine did it early on a good bit but now pretty much never hear it. Ride on!!

the shocks are oil not gas, the clunk after going over small things is the shocks 'returning to home position' fully extending. there is no rebound damping on these forks.

It was more of a feel in the shifter, no real sound difference on this one. A bit notchy in the shifter going to 2nd so to speak
