Judging from the constant rocking and swaying of trains in this video, track on the Congress stretch of the Blue line doesn't appear to be all that safe either.

Glad you noticed. It's very bad on the 5000s, I couldn't film straight!

@@ChicagolandTransitAs you were filming on board while the train was in motion, you clearly see just how bad the track alignment was. The rolling or swaying was quite extreme as the cars seem rock in opposite angles of each other.

The way the hydraulic suspension was designed on the 5000s plus their heavier weight makes its performance on those poorly maintained tracks much worse. That's why they never really run 5000s on the Congress branch. Hopefully IDOT finally starts working with CTA to completely rebuild this branch at some point soon.

@@ChicagolandTransit Well in the meantime, what's gonna happen with the 7000s?? I mean, their suspension system is similar to that of the 5000s. And last I heard, the Blue Line was supposed to be the first line to receive the 7000s. The first 10 prototypes have supposedly been permanently assigned to the Blue as of about a month or two ago. Just wondering...........

The 7000s suspension design is much different from that of the 5000s. They improved it by making it only partially hydraulic for the kneeling of the train to platform level, given lessons learned by the design on the 5000s. They perform much better and are fit to handle the Congress branch.
