Sheesh, the sound the trains make on the new rails is insane! Now I'm curious to hear what the 7000 Series would sound like despite they're not planned to operate on the Red or Purple Lines

I lived on this stretch for nearly 80 years, was around during the old North Shore Line and before the Evanston Express ie Purple Line Express. I'm going to miss the embankment.

At first I was going to make a comment on how are they going to build the permanent stations with the temporary ones in the way but i remembered that the temporary ones are between the Red and Purple Line Tracks (Future Ones). So while they rebuild the West Tracks they'll also begin to build the new stations probably at the same time. My guess is that they will do the station houses first being that'll take the longest time and then handle building the platforms once they finished the new infrastructure at each point where there's a station.

The new sound from the train are I think the aging of the 5000 series rail cars. I too noticed new sounds coming from the 5000 series. This one is the newest.

The low noise is mostly due to “direct-fixation” of the track structure to the concrete viaduct. It acts as somewhat of a sound and vibration dampener, allowing you to more clearly hear the traction motors on the cars. At least that’s my theory!😅

Speeds will not increase at all. They will have it at slow speeds to save costs on rail replacement
