Wow, how come I am hearing and learning this now and I am 65years old from Ghana 🇬🇭? I have always been pointing out on how proud I am of certain African countries like Senegal, Tanzania, and Kenya for never coming under military takeover. I sincerely think the story was not given big coverage outside Kenya. Anyway big ups and respect to Captain Kariuku. He kind of has a very great sense of humour. His story about the “Messiah” got me giggling from cheek to cheek really good. Thanks for sharing and much respect to you Sir. I salute!

Hi Richard, I'd love to know what happened to the guys who flew the jets but did not bomb the targets....because the 2 guys saved Kenya as we know it....Had they followed the orders of the armed guys, KBC & Statehouse would have been disintegrated. I hope they didn't end up on the red list albeit being the heroes of this story, 😔
@LG-dk2ty3 жыл бұрын
If I am not wrong, one of them Nick Leshan. He rose to become a Lt General and Head of the Air force and deputised the Chief of defence forces. He passed away not too long ago. He was a great story teller just like Chris and very well loved by the his juniors.
@vietnammghenyi99443 жыл бұрын
@@LG-dk2ty I beg to differ,lt Gen Leshan did not save the nation as he was a" buffalo" pilot. The real heroes are unsung one of them is the late Captain Dave Mutua who died from meningitis around 2003/2004 after flying for KQ for some years, however, the Ghosts of his military career haunted him. Anyway this is how he saved the nation; while approaching Nairobi from the North, he performed manauvres in the twin seat F-5 that knocked out his captor. I bet it induced G-LOCK( gravity induced loss of consciousness) to his captor who had all along ordered him to fly at gun point and destroy key installations. The captor in question was lance corporal Injeni Brawel Njerman who was later condemned to death with the likes of Spte Hezekiah Ochuka. Now back to Mutua's story he was tortured as he was in the "red zone" and this contributed to his mental health issues and alcoholism that saw him leave KQ in pursuit for justice. But as they say ukishindana na ndovu kunya....he couldn't win the case against government; The money from KQ got depleted eventually.
@LG-dk2ty3 жыл бұрын
@@vietnammghenyi9944 I stand corrected my brother. Was it Nick Leshan then who was forced to fly Ochuka and Okumu to Dar? Njereman was featured a lot in the 82 coup stories. I think he was hanged like Ochuka and his friend.
