We love this adventure! Antelope Canyon is on our list, but I didn't know about the optional paddle part. This is a must do! Thanks for sharing.

Simple Life, Big Adventures it absolutely is a must do, if you can! We’re putting together a post to go with this and will reply in this comment thread once we have it. But pretty simple and now that we have our SUP we want to go back and paddle it that way! Enjoy your Wander!

Thanks for the sub! We haven't been hard enough on the "Woodys" of the world because everywhere we've gone we've seen some dumb Woody leaving his/her mark on the beauty. Glad you appreciate preserving the beautiful things in life!

We have the same kayak. We have only used it a few times and love it. We need to find places like you to kayak. It's so beautiful there.

Nomadic In Nature We made the mistake of driving from Florida to Alaska with no kayak last year. This one definitely makes for more adventure! We’ll keep finding as many places to paddle as we can- though they’ll be south of the border starting later this week!

FREE TO ADVENTURE thanks! Lone Rock is definitely a top 10 in all of the tens of thousands of miles we’ve driven across North America! Hope you enjoy the trip back!

great video, don't you need a tour guide to hike antelope canyon? How did you avoid getting a guide? We will have our own kayak as well, so just want to make sure I understand the route.
@CalledToWander2 жыл бұрын
This is Lower Antelope Canyon, where the canyon enters Lake Powell. You still must hire a Native American guide for Upper Antelope Canyon, which is the more picturesque part of the canyon. In theory you could hike to where they connect. But when we were there that would require far more time than we had, plus some climbing gear. Right now Lake Powell is so low it may not be possible... or the canyon/hike will start a whole lot sooner. When we passed through Antelope Canyon in May this year the water was down around 40 vertical feet.

Awesome trip! I was thinking of doing this on an inflatable canyon too, but am a little concerned with an inflatable kayak. Did you guys think of what you would do if the kayak deflated or got punctured? That is a long distance with mostly walls on both sides it seems....are there beach areas you could swim to?
@CalledToWander3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't worry if you buy a decent inflatable kayak. We researched and shopped this Sea Eagle one. Even with our dog's paws scraping at times we never had any issues. I would NOT take this over the oyster beds in Florida. But we've taken it down some rough river water and definitely had no issues with the tranquil water of Lake Powell. But yes, there are some areas you could get to in an emergency. It's law to have life jackets/vests and throw in a whistle for safety. But there are SO MANY people that paddle this if you ever had any problems someone would be right there to help you out. Enjoy! amzn.to/3AOufR1

Paddle was about an hour. You can hike as far as you like.

What is the green cloth you put down so that the dogs nails don’t tear at the fabric?
@CalledToWander3 жыл бұрын
Its a cheap yoga mat. We cut it up for added protection. The kayak itself is suppose to be dog-proof, but we didn't want to find out halfway out on our trip! =)

Is there a fee or a permit needed to get into antelope canyon this way? I know if you go in from the land the "traditional" way it is permit only. Is this the case with how you went it? I couldnt see anything in the video showing you needed a permit.
@CalledToWander4 жыл бұрын
No permit required. But do mind nature and others when you are there. You can only go so far into the canyon before it connects with the private section. We didn't go that far in... you WONT be alone on this journey so don't worry, enjoy the beautiful trip and respect the beauty along the way!

How long did it take you two to kayak from the marina to the canyon entrance?
@CalledToWander3 жыл бұрын
Maybe 30-45 mins. Its a nice paddle all the way so you can take as much or as little time as you want.
@MarisolsAdventures3 жыл бұрын
can you go to the upper canyon by kayaking as well?
@CalledToWander3 жыл бұрын
No. Upper canyon requires permission/pass and is not accessible via kayak.

I am planning a kayaking trip in two weeks and was wondering if you can kayak away from this marina to camp?
@CalledToWander4 жыл бұрын
Honestly we're not sure and would have to consult Google to find out. The area is surrounded by federal lands so I'm sure there is camping nearby. Most people we saw in the time we were there were definitely day tripping. But worth looking into. Sorry we don't have a better answer!

How has the inflatable kayak held up
@CalledToWander4 жыл бұрын
It's holding up well! We've fallen in love with our iROCKER SUP so we take the SUP out more than the kayak. But for family trips the kayak is great and held up well for us in Baja!
@georgemelendez74744 жыл бұрын
How long did the whole experience take?
@CalledToWander4 жыл бұрын
George Melendez depends how fast you want to move. Canyon entrance is one mile or about 15-20 mins. Another 30-45 to the dry canyon for hiking. Then another 30-45 until we turned around. In all we spent around 4-5 hours. But also plenty of beaches to stop and picnic along the way.
