In this video I finally decided the Kohler Courage with the cracked block had too many leaks to keep on this nice Cub Cadet. In this video I swap a Briggs and Stratton engine onto it and send it on its way with much greater confidence that it will be a reliable machine for the new owner!

So, pretty straight forward swap from the kohler to the Briggs. I was a bit surprised that it was plug and play. Exhaust seems to always be the bigger challenge. A lot of good info here. Thanks for sharing.

Yes just make sure you have the 6 pin plug and wiring for the Briggs and it really is plug and play.

Rotary part number 14456 Muffler is a DIRECT replacement when going from the Kohler Single to a Briggs single on the Cub Cadet.... At least it is on the LTX 1045 I just did a SWAP on.

Your best bet is to find a junk riding mower with a good engine so you can take the engine portion of the wiring harness with it. Brand doesn't matter as long as you have the double stack pulley from the LT1045.

Hello Casey, I see a good number of the Cubs with the Kohler Courage engines listed on Marketplace and it’s really good to know about the engine swap details. Recently I had seen a John Deere STX46 with the black mower deck listed in a neighboring city. Honestly I can’t remember ever seeing the STX46, But have seen several of the John Deere STX38 tractors listed. If my memory serves me correctly, I think that tractor had a single cylinder Kohler command 15hp engine. Do you know anything about these tractors?

The STX38 had a Kohler command 12.5 engine. The STX46 are not as popular but they're still out there!

From the photos and the price, that tractor didn’t seem all that bad out of reason. I thought maybe you had owned one of those tractors in the past.

Both engines have the exact same shaft size and you reuse the double stack pulley from the old engine, so there are no issues at all.

I have a Kohler sv 600-0009 on Cub cadet what model and serial number of Briggs you swap can you tell me it will be big help,I am thinking to do it myself

It was a 19.5hp Briggs single, not sure on the model number but the only thing that really makes any difference is that it it has a voltage regulator for the electric PTO.

I'm doing a swap from kohlor to briggs. Everything just plugs in but the wires are different colors. Does that matter?

Shouldn't matter as long as you're using the Briggs harness.

I need to buy a very cheap old durable lawn mower 42 inch to a 48 inch. One person said to buy a sears 1000 model with a 20 hp motor anybtruth to this and if so I have seen some 21 hp motor as well are they ok ? He also said brings and straton motor as well.

Craftsman LT1000 mowers are about the best out there for the money when it comes to cheap machines. 20-21hp Briggs singles aren't the best but they'll be fine, if you find one of a lesser HP they seem to be a little more durable.

So a twin motor is a better way to go with the brigs and straton motor or is a say 17 hp single better than a 21 hp twin to get ? certain horsepower motor to look for ? Twin or single better ? Any certain year LT1000 to look for So if you where buying one mower what motor whould you look for and horsepower. To be exact. Thanks

@@turbotoys1597 Any of the engines on an LT1000 mower should be good. The worst ones are the Briggs and Stratton single cylinder Intek engines with the oil filter, they can be known to break the compression release on the camshaft. The older Briggs singles without the oil filter are really good engines, especially the turbo cool ones. If you can find a Kohler Command engine on one that's even better. The opposed twin Briggs engines are good but can be a little tricky if they start to not run right so I'd avoid those unless you're mechanically inclined. Briggs V-twins are good too. Can't recall them having Kohler V-twins.

@EllisMowersandmore wow thank you such valuable information. Ya I found LTXa Kohler pro 18 hp tonight with a leaf catcher. And a brigs straton 17.5 Turbo Red motor with a bagger and a cart . For both same price and seem like same condition for $500.00 Found a few turbo 19 .5 turbo brigs red turbo cools as well.they where closer to $700.00 And a brigs 17.5 Turbo air for $175.00 Not sure the Kolor is worth $300 more ?
