This may help if your belt pops off at the motor. Yesterday, I was in that situation and loosened off the 4 motor mounts about 3/8" lifting the motor enough to get play for the belt to be back in place. Took a couple minutes and worked the treat! That's on a 1032 but most likely will work on most models I'm guessing. First time in 14 years I've had that issue. Interestingly it's been inside all its life and after 260 hours the belts are still in great shape! Watched this afterwards, thanks for posting bud! I'll definitely be using your lifting method if ever required in the future!

Hi Mower Mike! I can’t thank you enough for this great tutorial video!! I am rehabbing a tractor for my son as a gift. I’m not exactly a motor-head, but I know my way around the machine. I was really dreading replacing the drive belt. But I had everything stripped down, so why not put a fresh belt on while I can. I was in and out and done in 30 minutes! I’m so proud of myself and very thankful for your video. I did find a faster trick to putting the belt around the middle pulleys without removing them. When I put my wrench on the bolt to remove it, I was able to push the pulley forward enough to slip the belt over my hand and onto the pulley. When I released my hold - she’s nice and tight! You have a great sense of humor and really make watching this fun. I’d hate to see what happens when you get one of your white t-shirts (or pumas) dirty!!! @Detroitblue Жыл бұрын
I would have put the level of difficulty at " for the mechanically inclined with some experience". I found this to be a easy repair but having all the right tools and know some tricks is what made it so. As mentioned. the hoist saved a lot of crawling on the ground and getting up and down. I would definitely utilize an impact tool to make quick work of getting off that PTO. Unlike my LT1045 the GTX also allows for removal of the pulley on the motor shaft and I thought that should've been easier than unbolting the engine and lifting it up to get the belt on the pulley but it looked little troublesome as well. The only other thing I saw in your repair was removal of one of the gulde pulleys to get the belt on and I am not sure why. All I had to do was pull a big screwdriver on the tensioner and pull back until the belt had enough slack. Never the less help me out a lot with your video. Thanks.

Great video, and the one with the rope trick. One thing I would mention: don't use an impact wrench when tightening the PTO belt back to the shaft - these really should be torqued to specs (50-55 ft/lbs for mine, depending on bolt diameter). Most OEM replacements will void the warranty on the replacement PTO if it's not torqued on correctly.

Beats laying under it by miles. I could not find a spot to hook into the frame, like you seemed to, so how did you do that? Thanks.
@MowerMike2 жыл бұрын
Glad it helps I appreciate the kind words. The only good spot up front is to hook a winch cable around the front axle. Or remove the deck and you can use the frame rails. Or you can totally make the tractor vertical and sit it on its but just be careful with spilling any fuel.

Doing this on a LT 1040 and honestly it's probably easier to just remove the four bolts that hold the engine in place and then just wiggle it around a bit. Don't have to pack the cylinder with rope and try to pull the sheaves off. I am leaving mine on the ground though an just drove up on some ramps but still easier and less hassle IMHO.

@@MowerMike I got it off. All steering repair and belts replaced and new tires on. This GT1554 is like new again. Mike, I dont know how many of these lawn tractors are still out there, but you may want to do a video on changing out the coils. The 2007 models had coils that were powered by the battery. the were such a pain in the ba-donk-a-donk that they changed them to an alternate type to generate their own power. I had to change mine out when one coil went bad and I only got spark on the drivers side cylinder. It's a bit of a set up with rewiring. Thanks for yer help buddy..

What if the pulley don't come off

What if the pulley don't want to come off after taking bolt out?
@jw84062 жыл бұрын
Should the engine drive belt pulley be frozen and or rusted on and can't be removed; an alternative is to loosen the 4 bolts that secures the engine to the frame. Might not be necessary to remove these (about 2 inch long) bolts but on the other hand you might need to. If you remove these engine bolts use a Philips screwdriver to align the bolt holes to reinstall the bolts. So, after loosening try to shift the engine back, forth, left & right even lift a bit. The purpose of lifting and shifting the engine is to gain enough space to work the belt into place onto the engine pulley. This works. However; sometimes, the engine securing bolts are just as frozen as the engine pulley. Penetrating oil an impact wrench and a pulley puller may be necessary to remove the engine pulley. Do not have the mower lifted into a vertical position, you don't want the engine to fall off the mower, use good common sense.

@@MowerMike I thought I'd be clever and remove just 3 (since I had the mower up at an angle) and just pivot it on the remaining bolt. No go because of the muffler. It holds the motor in place. I'll try laying it level and removing all 4. I hope I don't have to try and remove the rusted muffler bolts. Last Cub Cadet I'll buy.

Forgot to mention I have an XT1 54 inch. The GTX looks easier to work on. Ok, I bought a gear puller. The shaft for the puller sunk into the bolt hole! I had to clean up the threads. I found something to use to keep the puller shaft from going in the hole. The freakin pull was so stuck (after using penetrating oil on it a week ago and letting it set) that It just ended up bending the pully lips (?). That was fun trying to bend back. I ended up taking the muffler pipes off, removing all the motor bolts and used a pry bar to lift the motor at an angle to get the belt on. I had to bend the guards to do this. Screw cub cadet for not simply using a removable guard! The guard were just leaves of the chassis opening bent down at right angles. Very sturdy but bad design. The closest service place is 40 miles one way. They want $50 each way just for travel! I don't have a trailer. I guess next time I'll borrow a pickup, remove the deck and put it in the bed. Luckily I have a sharp decline from my drive to my yard so I'll be able to use some 2x10s to roll it on. I guess you could winch it up. If I can sell it I'm getting another yard man. Last one lasted 12 years mowing yard and rough fields. I just wanted a larger deck since it really cut the time down on mowing 3+ acres.

You are changing the belt often because it's not an OEM belt. The materials used are way better. I just changed my belt on a 2006 LT1045 at 400 hours. The belt had massive chunks missing and solid cracks but didn't break!
