2:05I noticed you rendered "dry" - if you are writing / collaborating wouldn't it better to include FX? I think its different if you send your work to a mixer, but distinguishing these cases is an important part of the process. If you want to include all FX and want to send Stems with FX for a Remix / collaboration, how do you go about this? separate FX track for each track? grouping FX? It would be an interesting topic for a separate video.
@mixdownonline5 жыл бұрын
I rendered dry because I did not use any FX on those VST Instruments. Is I would've use FX, I would've Rendered those files with FX right away.

Is it somehow possible to warp and manually tune audio melodies on VariAudio and then export those new files as an AAF file? Also, can anybody suggest me a good manual tuning alternative? I couldn’t find the same flexibility on Melodyne. Should I make more researches about its use? Thank y’all in advance.

Thanks for the info, but what is the advantage(if any) of AAF over .WAV files or OMF?
@mixdownonline5 жыл бұрын
AAF is not the same as a WAV, it's a file like a CPR file opposed to a WAV that is an audio file. AAF is similar to OMF but is newer and contains more information than the OMF, like channel names and also volume automation which I forgot to mention in the video.
@nareshkamath78345 жыл бұрын
@@mixdownonline Does it also have panning information?

If the receiving software supports it, yes. I just added those details in the description of the video.

@@mixdownonline That'd be a SUPER useful thing to have in a follow up video. I'm researching this now as I prepare to work on my first ever mix from an artist recording in ableton, and I don't know if there's a format that comes with midi data included or other metadata. AAF including track names, volume automation and stuff is helpful. But, if it has volume automation... Is there no way to use MIDI too? Anyway, now that it's been a year and people are coming back from COVID (many like me who have been learning online from folks like you, Dom, Greg, and others... would you mind covering detailed import/export video, since a lot of people have also been learning in environments outside of Steinberg, and we'll need to work with them as well)? I hope that your vacation has gone well.

The AAF imports seems to place the imported tracks below the last track in the project. I've tried it several time making sure to select the Marker Track in the top section but it refuses to insert them below the Marker Track. Anyone have the same problem?

Hi there! Do you know if you're able to export AAF files if you have Cubase Artist 11? The site says it has "AAF Support" for only the Pro version but i didnt know if that meant you couldn't export that type of file in Artist or not. Thanks!

Hey Chris, At the moment I am working on project together with a friend of mine whose's working with Samplitude. We're facing huge issues with exchanging audio files. First I tried export my tracks using OMF as file format, but that didn't work at all...now we decided to try AAF. I've watched this video here and you said that AAF only exports the audio files, but no effects and stuff...Well does that also count if I've loaded a guitar simulation from the cubase internal "Amp Rack"? It's because I've splitted the guitar signal, as it seems like this: Track 1= Guitar pedal board > external tube Amp > mic > Fender ABY Pedal > UR22 > DAW Track 2 = Guitar > cable > Fender ABY Pedal > UR22 > Amp Rack Simulation > DAW. If I now export the both tracks does that mean that only the pure guitar signal on the Amp Rack track will be exported or will the entire, modified, signal be exported? Many Thanks already for a quick and clarifying help, Cheers, Stef
@mixdownonline5 жыл бұрын
If your amp sim is added as an insert on your recorded track, that effect will not be transfert by AAF. in this case, Render in Place the events from that track. That will create a new track with the amp sim applied on the recording itself.

@@mixdownonline Salut Chris, first, many thanks for your quick reply. after trying a few brain killing times, I managed to get to my results. but now, I have another issue...In my project (cubase 10 pro) the main out is peaking, even though that there's no peak on any input chanel. I can't figure out from where the peaking signal comes from. is there any chance to locate it, or what else can i do to get rid of the scratchy sound ? Thanks again, have great one, Stef from France

Hey Chris, How to you collaburate if both sides are using CB 10 Pro? Do you export stems and send them over or...? I have an issue . I can't or do not know how to export my tracks with insert and send processing, as well with filter and volume automation. Every time i try to export my tracks separately it will not send fx, automation etc to the tracks that have been sent through the processing, but it exports a fx track with only the FX as an audio... Do i need to click something somewhere so i can make stems with processing and without processing, or is there anything else i im missing. Thanks in advance! BTW loving the videos you make, learning a lot from them!
@mixdownonline5 жыл бұрын
In that case, I would simply ZIP the entire project folder and send that over to my Cubase collaborator. You do that once at the beginning of the collaboration and then you can exchange new tracks with AAF or manually. There's also VST Connect and VST Transit that can be used but I never tried those yet.
@netrom_dnb5 жыл бұрын
@@mixdownonline Hmm Okay. At the moment i tend to make a backup file to dropbox an when ever i am done making music and close the project the the other side and open the same project from dropbox. if you make a backup file there, then all the Audio files are there as well, but the project will work only with this plugins that the other side has. Then again if i render in place all audio tracks then the other side can see and hear exactly what i did. :)
