Thanks Dom! Every time I watch one of your videos, it makes me want to grab a chair and sit quietly in the back of your studio, just watching your workflow. I learnt so much already just from your videos! Not only is it very informative, but with your enthusiasm regarding mixing, sounds and music in general, that comes sparkling through the screen, it's a lot of fun! Keep up the good work!

Awesome video!!! I have been struggling for YEARS about that snare "layering" to get that nice snare and drum tail. I have just applied your method to my drums and it instantly beat the ok results I´ve been having so far! Why haven´t you posted this kind of vid 5 years ago?!
@gtrszan8 ай бұрын
Thanks Dom I applied all this to my snare and tweaked each setting according to my snare and tuning and it sounds sooo much better than anything I've ever done. I really like how it elevates the snarein the vertical plane and niw it has a nice space to it. Wooo Hoooo!
@ThePlanarchist3 жыл бұрын
Nicely demonstrated, thanks! Sounds great on the individual snare hits but on the rolls they sound a bit robotic, presumably because the processing has become so much of the sound? How easy to dynamically vary your treatment on successive hits I wonder?

Very good. There are several midi kits that already have a great sound which needs little adjustment. It’s a good idea to comb through them.

Isn't that low cut on your channel EQ canceling the low shelf boost from Frequency?
@harveyiimichael3 жыл бұрын
No, it is only getting rid of the low end information that isn't needed. The Pultec type eq he did was for the lower portion if the snare the low cut got rid of things below that.

Dom, HELP! What is the routing of your drums? I see that you have 1 instance of Groove Agent, 1 midi event with all the data and several tracks for each drum/cymbal to process them. How you're doing this?
@DomSigalas3 жыл бұрын
You click on the Agent (your drum kit) and then from the drop down you select : Export Mixer with effects - one click :) works with acoustic kits, but you can also do it manually per cell on electronic kits ;)

Nice video Dom, I wonder if sometime you could please do an in depth explanation of the sends, it never makes sense to me that there is a negative send, and yet I always have them way down in the negative (probably because i have no idea what i'm doing !) and i see in your video not only did you have negative sends but you also moved the faders, I'm soooo confused. In my head i think it should be how much do i send to the effect, but how can i send less than nothing?
@zyguli3 жыл бұрын
Sends at zero will send the signal without changing its gain. Negative amount of 1db means the send signal will be 1db quieter than the original channel. This is useful for having different amount of reverb for example on different channels.
@mikeraphone7853 жыл бұрын
@@zyguli Thanks for that but it still makes no sense to me, surely the send function is like a mix function like they have on the actual reverb etc, IE set the effect to 100% wet and on each channel sent to it you blend the effect otherwise why bother with an FX channel you might as well just put the effect as an insert on each channel and blend from there.
@zyguli3 жыл бұрын
@@mikeraphone785 because using a send effect allows for sharing the same effect by every channel in the mix. In hardware realm it allows to have a single device and still have the reverb on every channel. In DAWs send effects save CPU power and allows to create a shared stage.

2 FR2 ???? O MANNNN!!!! JUST ONE QUESTION!! WHY THE ACOUSTIC KITS IN GROOVE AGENT 5 ARE SO LOW IN VOLUME LEVEL?????
@danyavilaoficial3 жыл бұрын
Based on my experience if you need so many plug-in instances is because your selection of snare was bad to begin with
@mofungo88823 жыл бұрын
I hear some dbl triggering on some of the snare hits in there...
@SergeyDMitrievOverheat3 жыл бұрын
Hi Dom. I've been watching your channel for a long time. But you missed it in this video. You cut out the reference frequencies from the snare, not the resonances! This is a big mistake. As a result, the snare turned out to be lifeless and illegible at low frequencies.And if you wanted to make it huge with reverb, then at the beginning of the chain, I would put a gate! Snare's long tail makes a lot of tone noise in the rev. And it is advisable to put the hall not in the insert, but as an aux. BUT! the signal before the reverb saturates to distortion! This will broaden the range of the reverb.
@henrikhansson13 жыл бұрын
Nice, but, I would like to hear this kind of processing on a real drum recording. The bleed would probably be unbearable because of the processing you just added...
@mofungo88823 жыл бұрын
you use a gate for that. It's done all the time.
@henrikhansson13 жыл бұрын
@@mofungo8882 No shit. But the snare wouldn’t sound nearly the same as this then.
@DomSigalas3 жыл бұрын
If you have bleed the first thing I would add to the chain is an envelope shaper with reduced release followed by a gate. This way you solve the issue immediately. If not, that means the recording was not right in the first place- in this case I would do sample replacement to get a sound like this :)

You say: "Low shelf filter", but its 2 different things. Shelf is a shelf, and filter is a filter. Don't mix them up.
@kuratoriummonokromat74693 жыл бұрын
They are not two different things. Shelves are one kind of filters and calling them "Shelf Filter" is perfectly fine.
@InsomniaclifeАй бұрын
Wow, you literally took the life out of the snare and made it sound much worse. No life, artificial. All the original needed was a little analog compression, some limiting and a little short room and long reverb and done!
