Jack is a rescue parrot who had a rocky start when she came into Lorna's life. Initially, she would make a mess with whatever she found, which made Lorna furious. However, Lorna was patient and gentle with her, so Jack warmed up to her. Unfortunately, she still hates her boyfriend Joe and bites him every time he approaches.

@@spiritmatter1553 It definitely might help but birdie needs appropriate training so she is not tempted to take chunks out of anyone's skin. Sadly, if something were to happen to this couple, this bird would be unlikely to find another home. Bird owners have even been cautioned against teaching their bird curse words because it could make it harder for them to be adopted in the future. With so many birds having 5 or more homes in their lifetimes, this is a real concern.

@@watchingnwaiting5264 that is a really good catch. I hope there is a moderator reading these things. there is a lot to learn to safely care for a bird. Their lungs are not like humans'/cats'/dogs', and they are just extremely fragile. It would be unfortunate to be sending the wrong messages to current and potential pet bird owners. I have found a number of issues like this with bird videos online.

😊 In my early 50’s I got stuck with a dusky-headed conure. Was an adoption for my daughters but unknown to us she (Daphne) prefers men. As the only man in the house I have had a bird on my shoulder most of the time for the past year. I love her so much! I have had difficult times adjusting to her, but I literally break down in tears at the thought of moving her along to someone else. I feel like she needs me. I also feel like I need her.

Birds are stress animals, there are a lot of reasons she could have plucked, bad diet, dirty cage. No toys. No routine. They are also very much a one person bird unless well socialised, even then they have their favourite hooman. Please don't get a parrot unless you're willing to commit to them for the rest of your life. They are a huge commitment and expense, they can't visit regular vets they need specialist vets. There's at least 70 years with an african grey of weekly toy purchase that's before we get to the food. They poop every 20 minutes or so and need a minimum of 3 hours one on one just to keep them tame. I'm so glad this baby has found such a sweet loving couple. I wish them nothing but luck with the newest member of their family. ❤

@BhappyD
@BhappyD Жыл бұрын
I noticed that. She was very heightened, which will only lead to bites and not end well. From everything I’ve learned, you slowly gain their trust by respecting their body language and not pushing interaction on them when they are essentially begging you not to through their body language (the only communication ability they have), which is pretty much how it is with any animal. I’d highly recommend this couple watch BirdTricks KZbin videos or take some of their virtual courses, as this couple seems like they really want to succeed with this bird, but they don’t quite know how to fully win her over to be comfortable with the boyfriend, and aren’t reading body cues. BirdTricks has some really amazing educational material to walk people through scenarios like this. If the boyfriend followed some of their techniques, especially given that the boyfriend seems very committed to success with the bird and isn’t afraid to keep trying, I think things would improve greatly! What an awesome guy though to be so dedicated! I wish them well!

This couple is well-intentioned but desperately need correct information from specialists who understand parrots who came from troubled situations ( ie biting, feather plucking, etc) Random guessing what to do is not great for neither the animal nor the people. Some quick examples, they should learn how to read body language of when the bird is stressed (ie cowering, raised feathers, preparing to bite, etc) and back off. Do not shove in your fingers or hands when the bird is stressed, do not approach by hovering your hand from above (Ie. predator /abuse situation, etc) You need to learn how to set up a situation of safety and comfort from the bird's perspective from people who have professional expertise.

However, you can't react to the bite (easier said than done) I am slowly gaining her trust...a lot of patience is key. We adopted a CAG named Ozzie about 22 years ago. His owner had gotten remarried and had 2 small children. Ozzie could never come out of his cage for fear the children might get bitten. So I don’t believe in keeping parrots that have to be locked up in a cage 24/7. I have what I call “tree-tree’s with papers to catch droppings and splat mats on the floor. Ozzie can be very devious and has bitten me a number of times. He hadn’t been trained to step up on a training stick so he was afraid of it. It took nearly a decade for him to stop fearing the training stick. All my other birds had learned how to step up on a training stick so no pet sitters or other sitters have to risk getting bitten. Ozzie bites hard, he once split my thumb nail clean through blood 🩸 came through my thumb nail. It took weeks to heal. Another time he flew at me beak first landing on my forearm. It took WEEKS for the bruising to go away. He is devious and gets his rump in a bunch over some perceived slight and then plans and executed chomping!

if you have a pet bird that bites, letting them bite you is not the answer, as well intentioned as it may be. Birds respond to positive reinforcement. Barbara Heidenrich is well known in the bird community as a behaviorist who teachers these skills via her books or her videos (there is a video specific to biting). Sometimes a veterinary behaviorist really needs to be consulted. I have no financial interest . I am just a mom to a 6 year old eclectus parrot. i am not sure why someone else flagged my earlier post with the same information. I'm guessing they are not a bird owner because if they were, they would not think a bird biting is at all cute or remotely okay.

I got my bird from a pet store so i wonder if the owner was mean to him. I mean, once i bought my bird he told me to keep the bird in its cage for 3 days to get him used to it. But my Micah went in the cage, stepped immediatly on my hand and climbed all the way to my shoulder and refused to leave. Like he was reliefed or something. 20 years later hes still my big boy in perfect condition 😊

It sounds like Jack was abused by a man, but with a lot of patience and love he will come around and learn to love Joe, ❤ looks like to me that you are his hoomen mom.

Um all I see is a bird tearing chunks of skin off a man. I think the original owner was likely the victim! 😂 Naw, the original owner was a man so already guilty right?

@@Maialeen Look, growing up our family pet did not like my dad or me. If we went into the room he would leave (unless my mom or sister was there). We never did a damn thing to that dog, he just flat out didn't like men. It's a real thing. If that bird had a male owner and didn't like men it would have been miserable. And that bird may NEVER like Joe.

My father's elderly relative had a parrot that would perch on the top of the door and swoop down and peck people on the head. She hated men also.

I was only 22 when I had my first parrot. He has lived with me over 40 years. I have noticed, when I go into a parrot shop, parrots interact different with me. It's weird. It took me rears to realize why. Long story. No one would believe except those who have had parrots as part of their lives for many years or decades. Not caged, actually part of their lives. I never caged my parrots unless absolutely necessary.

My sister had a cat like that but she hated everyone. Men and women. I remember when she first got her my sister wanted her to snuggle with her at night. I'll never forget trying to sleep and just hearing that cat meow forever but my sister eventually broke through to her. Anyway, the cat became a tad more loving but not by much lol. She would hop up in my lap and would want me to pet her but when she was done she was done lol. She would flip out and bite me and run away lol. It was hilarious.

I couldn't of dealt with a bird like that, especially destroying my house, she would of ended up as catfood.
