I started this journey in 1988 with Creator/Notator (which became Logic), on a Atari ST with a whole memory of a whopping 2 megabytes of memory, AND, a whopping 30 "megabyte" external hard drive called Megafile 30! Haha... Still have that whole system! Been with Studio One for 10 years now. LOVE STUDIO ONE ❤✋💪😋😛💖💯🎸🎹🥁🎤 And love your vids Joe...

The best HP/cue mix explanation i have seen. Thanks Joe

The beauty of signal routing in Presonus' 1810c and 1824c interfaces (and possibly others too) lies in the fact that you can run your main mix into headphone output 1 and your cue mix into headphone output 2, which is very handy when you're working with one other musician.
@jacksolleguitar2 жыл бұрын
There is a way to do cue mixes with only 2 output interface. What you do is make an aggregate device and combine the interface with the headphone jack of your Mac in it. Those extra outputs will show up in your I/O setup anytime you plug in your headphones and now you have an extra cue mix for your singer without a big interface :D

I wish I would’ve known this a while ago!!! This is so slick!! I ended up routing all my tracks back through my board like you did with your studio live, but this is way cool!!

Correct levels for everybody are so very important to helping musicians get their best performance! Might be worth mentioning that this is all for monitoring through studio one. Instead, i usually mix cue mixes during recording sessions on my tablet using the universal control software to monitor directly from my interface (studio 192 + DP88). Might avoid any latency, and keeps the channel look less cluttered.

Good Video. For those of us using faderports, the 16 in my case, it sure would be nice to be able to bring up and adjust those mixes on the board.

Joe, are you reading my mind or what? I have a project coming up to produce an album for a Nashville songwriter and I needed to know specifically THIS. Haven't used Studio1 for this kind of thing yet. Last time I actually had an engineer and I'm doing this one myself. Man, this was VERY helpful :)

Thanks Joe. I'm subscribing. Really getting started with studio one. My wife and I came out with a love song called Until Paris by Tiny and Tammy and we did it on Garage Band, but I have had Studio one for awhile now and I really want to get up to speed and this is helpful. Thank you.

Also Important for Quantum 2626 - if you're "in the box", the Q2626 interface does not have an internal monitor route, so you use two of the audio outs into, for instance, a Presonus HP4 headphone mixer to get near-real-time headphone monitoring for vocals (there's still a subtle delay but it's like a short slap-back, tolerable). So the cue mix is vital for that application in addition to normal 'open studio' recording situations.

Another thing I would like to see inside S1 is to bring out Sample One XT FX out as an individual plugin inside Studio One like pedalboard. That way we can use the effects on any sound not only sample one.

I have a Quantum and was struggling to figure this out. I selected my cue mix to be HP Left and HP Right (Channels 11 and 12 in the I/O diagram) but all I kept hearing was my main mix. Did some research and found out that I needed to use Universal Control to assign the HP 1 output to Channels 11 and 12. By default, the HP 1 output plays the main mix. Now it's fixed! However, I thought with the newest version of Studio One Professional, there was no need to use Universal Control anymore. I'm sure there's a way to assign HP1 to Channels 11/12 as a cue mix, but I'm not seeing it.

Great tips. But the thing I must check is if I can change the cue mix level of each track with the studio one RC app. Because each member use it to adjust their own headphone mix.

Hey Joe, long time S1 convert and follower. Thanks for another great vid! I cannot seem to figure out how to do what I need, without connecting an external HP amp. Not sure if its possible, and whether its a hardware routing issue, or software routing config issue in S1. Im not clear on how Cue mixes and the Listen Bus work together. In my case with a Quantum 2626. I want my Mix Bus to be clean, routed out nowhere, only for processing mixdowns, bounces, export to MP3, etc. Then on my Listen Bus I have room correction software, routed to Main Outs on the 2626, going to my studio monitors. The issue is that I want cue mixes to be based on the Mix Bus (no room correction), but I cant seem to have a corrected mix going to my monitors, with a clean mix going to my cue mixes. Thoughts? Thanks and keep up the great work w Gregor. Cheers, Bob in NJ

I still have troubles with latency. The audio setup in S1 says I should getting 11ms through my Focusrite 18i20, but there is a noticable delay especially on drums. We use our mixer and a patchbay to workaround, but I really wish I could use these features more.

How I wish there is a pan lock on sends as well. It is good seeing how the cue mix pan lock 🔒 with the channel pan, but that is not the case for send, will have to move the slider manually which is annoying. Hope presonus will put this on the next update.

Could you use the “main mix” outputs for another set of outputs for headphones if you don’t have monitors? Example would be for a podcast where everyone would be using headphones

Good job explaining, Joe, but I can't get it to work with my AudioBox 44VSL. It used to come with onboard mixing and cuing, but Presonus dumped that after Apple changed their audio handling (or something...) I followed your instructions, but the Cue didn't come up in the insert tab of the channel. Any ideas?

ok so in my workflow i have everything in folders, Vocals, Drums, ETc.. it my starting template. when you use folders the cue mix only works on the folder track and the tracks in the folder. is it possible to change this behavior? i know the work around is to temporarily move all the tracks out the folder but figured id ask incase there was a setting i was missing.

What do you with pre-recorded material in S1. B.e. Drums, bass, keys. And b.e. A singer needs to be recorded after. How to get the cue mixes from s1, through the console to the singer?
@chrisbottoms63962 ай бұрын
Cue mix would be more useful for me if I could use it for two mono cues instead of it forcing me to do one stereo cue. It's a great feature that doesn't really help me. TEMPORARY WORKAROUND... What I did as a workaround was to create two stereo cue mixes named Monitor 1 and Monitor 2. In the insert of each, I put an instance of dual pan and panned one hard left and one hard right. If anyone does this, just remember than any effects that you want to add directly to the either of the cues need to be placed before the dual pan, or else your effects will throw it into stereo again.

I have followed this video over and over but: In my console view studio one 5 pro, the only channels that the cue mix shows up under sends is a channel routed to Main bus which I'm not using. My channel outputs are all routed to "stem" buses" I've assigned to each group and outputting to stereo outs in my matrix. How do I fix this??

So question for anyone who can help…. I followed the steps exactly and repeated the process a few times and the cue mix icon pops up in the faders It doesn’t have the. “Power on/off” or the “lock/unlock” icon next to them. What am I missing?
@DeltaWhiskeyBravo13579 Жыл бұрын
Only a guess: Do you know how you can slide the sections of the top of the faders? I mean the areas like insert, send, cue each should overall slide into and out of view. Start at the fader and move your pointer upward until you get the moving divider, probably the first one. Drag the divider until the cue area appears. You might first need to slide the fader section down to gain room for the top to show better too.

Here is a tip on how to also send FXs (reverb, delay) to head phone mixes as well. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bYnUZWuBmtOnqJY
@RuCatania Жыл бұрын
Thanks. That's a big bug, since 9/10 all you wanna do is add some reverb to the singer HP. And in the creation/recording process nobody cares about some ms of delay in the reverb out, it's just like a small pre-delay setting (if this is the problem about routing FX to CUE).

Anyone can tell me why Studio One sounds different than cubase or pro tools. Same specs, configuration, sample wav loops, without processing, just the audio samples, and the sound in studio one sounds more tiny and muffy. Kicks have so much click and less low end. 24bit 48000khz in both! Same Pan Law! I love Studio One workflow but i prefer sound quality! Sorry for my bad English.
@kylesmith60952 жыл бұрын
Here lies my main complaint with Studio One Pro 5. If the vocalist wants some verb your forced to create a second cue mix to send to their cans! Forget about all the color schemes and gear S1 for people actually playing in a room together not one over dub at a time. And yes PreSonus has a work around but their tech couldn't figure it out. Love the DAW except for this.
