Since finding your tutorials I have become hooked on Cuerda Seca. I love that I can add bright coloured images on my pottery. I like colouring in....its very relaxing and my first pieces have sold already. Thank you for sharing your techniques ❤

Ana, such beautiful art. Thank you for sharing your passion. Had a strange question. I want to create like 50 cuerda seca tiles (6" x 6" I think) all with the same image. Do you have a secret to reproducing the resist pattern in a repetitive manner? Freehanding that many tiles is not practical. But I love the technique and need to create an assembly line process. Thank you.

Thank you Chris! They use silkscreen. I’ve never tried because I like to hand paint. Here’s a video that might help you: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2KslWSdirumqs0si=qjBLRCkYZrHtrM4h

Hi Anna. Thank you so much for sharing your talent ... so inspiring. I love watching you work! The dark lines that remain after firing, are they from the Charcoal or the dark clay. Does the charcoal burn off in firing? Thanks ❤
@anasclayhouse6 ай бұрын
Thank you Gemma! Yes the charcoal or graphite will burn off and your line work becomes the color of the clay.👍🏻

You always do such a beautiful job, especially on birds. I’m curious - have you ever tried this with an underglaze pencil?
@anasclayhouse6 ай бұрын
Thank you Mary! I haven’t tried the underglaze pencil. But I have tried the Mayco designer liner and it doesn’t resist the glaze that well. I believe the graphite is somewhat oily and that’s why it acts like a resist creating a nice texture. I don’t own any underglaze pencil but it would be nice to know!👍🏻
@marycarolyn12936 ай бұрын
@@anasclayhouse Thanks, Anna. I agree that an underglaze pencil wouldn’t resist. I didn’t realize what you used had any oil in it. I got some black wax but haven’t used it yet. I have a piece picked out to try it on, though.
@anasclayhouse6 ай бұрын
@@marycarolyn1293 from what I’ve read the charcoal pencil has a wax binder. I guess that’s what makes it resist. I also tried a mechanical pencil with regular HB graphite and it seems to resist the glaze as well.

My daughter is 7 and wants to experiment with pottery. Can we buy terra red and bake in the regular kitchen oven?
@anasclayhouse6 ай бұрын
No, but you can probably find a place where they will fire the pieces for you for a fee. I think that’s the best route, a kiln is too expensive. It’s great that she shows interest in clay! My granddaughter is 7 and I’ve introduced her to clay when she was 3.👍🏻😄

Did you you just a normal pencil, like a #2 pencil or something else? Thanks
@anasclayhouse6 ай бұрын
This is one is what I used: Generals hard charcoal amzn.to/49h899Z I’ve also tried regular HB mechanical pencil. It works but I like the charcoal better. Also the surface should be smooth so your pencil will glide much better.

Dear Ana, thank you for the demo. I loved the look of the bird tray. I don’t get Mayco products in my country but do get Amaco glazes and UGs. The only stable Amaco glazes I’ve used are celadon that won’t be suitable for Cuerda seca. If you’ve any suggestions for me on the use of locally made glazes…mostly runny and drippy…please let me know. Thanks.
@anasclayhouse6 ай бұрын
Let me see what I can find for you. I think the Amaco celadon glazes as well as the LG gloss low fire glazes would work on white clay. You would need to water down just like I do with the S&C glazes. It’s worth testing if you already have them!👍🏻

Also do you follow her on IG? instagram.com/yantra.keramika?igsh=NmYyYzV1eG5pcnA3 Some of her glazes look like celadon. I might start using some Amaco celadons that I just bought to mix and match with the Mayco S&C.

@@anasclayhouse Thank you for your response. I use ivory stoneware so use mid-fire glazes for firing at cone 6. Haven’t used terracotta clay and didn’t have success with low fire white clay so didn’t build a kit of low fire glazes. I don’t take you away from your beautiful work. I’d keep drawing inspiration from your painting and would find a way to practice cuerda seca with the glazes I can find. 🙏

What is a single fire ? Is this you fire only once with glaze ? No bisque fore ? Or is this food safe ?
@anasclayhouse6 ай бұрын
Yes it goes from greenware to glaze fire. It has to be completely bone dry and fired to a slow schedule. Yes it’s food safe. You just need to test your clay. I used this red clay because I had already tested before and I knew it works. It saves money and time!👍🏻🩷

Can underglazes be used
@anasclayhouse6 ай бұрын
It can but it would be a different technique and results. The stable glaze stays in relief and the line work stays flat on the surface creating the texture. I’ve never tried applying underglazes with an applicator, I always use brushes, but I would be afraid that the thickness would become rough. It could work with colored slip but I’ve never tried it.👍🏻
