Use wax resist on your stilts before you add your piece. This will help with those blemishes created in the firing. Lovely work and congratulations and well deserved on your work at Charlie Cummings! I look forward to seeing more of your videos. Very inspirational!

Thank you so much for sharing! This is the kind of technique that I’ve been looking for. I’ve tried Mishima, and sgraffito, but they didn’t give me exactly the result I was looking for. This looks much more like what I was envisioning in my mind that I wanted but just didn’t know how to go about it. ❤

Are the glazes you use the sa.e as paint a pottery glazes or something else. Please advise what type/brand of glazes you use. Also do you cover the piece with a clear semi gloss glazes before firing? Thank you.

@@susanrapp3109 Hi Susan, I use Mayco Stroke and Coat and I don’t use any clear glazes over them. They are glossy finish and very stable. These are the glazes I recommend, but it can work with any other stable glazes like Amaco celadons. I just haven’t tested yet with other types of glazes.

You can use any stable glaze that won’t move during the glaze firing. Amaco celadon glazes are very stable but there are many others. Just test it before. I hope it works for you!👍🏻❤️

This is soo beautiful. I don’t know how to layer the colors like you do and I can’t draw but I will be trying this for sure. I can’t get over how amazing your pieces are!! I just wanted to ask does the black outline glaze repel the glaze in the bottles or are you just really good at not going over the lines? Also do you have to let the stroke n coat glazes sit out and dry out a little so the glaze is thicker? Thanks so much!! Also, I am a member of ClayShare which is ran by a woman named Jessica Putnam Philips and she does classes on all things Clay related. She has a thing she does every year called ClayShare where it’s a week long thing where she has people teach classes and different techniques. I just know she would love it if you got a hold of her and talked to her about doing a class for ClayShare week. Her name is Jessica Putnam Phillips and she owns ClayShare.

Hi Michele, thank you so much! You’re so kind. Yes the oil mixture works like a wax resist. It repels the glaze. But if you squirt too much, it might go over. So you do need to be careful. I will suggest you try it first on a tile because it’s easier to do it on a flat surface. Also the glaze can’t be too thick or it won’t flow. In fact I add a little bit of water to the glaze on the bottle applicators. Then you test it to make sure it’s flowing out of the needle. Also wait a few minutes after you do your line work. It works better that way. Those are great questions. 👍🏻💞

Beautiful 😍 love it. Thanks. May ask... Are you decorating with the oil/iron oxide mix on bisque ware or raw clay? What about when you add the stroke and coat? THANK YOU
@anasclayhouse
@anasclayhouse 9 ай бұрын
Thanks! They were both done at bisqueware the oil mixture and the glazing. You can also do it at bone dry greenware and do one single firing. But I recommend testing first. I think it depends on the clay.

I just finished painting on the paste to my mug. When I touch it, the black comes off on my hand. Should this be happening. Did I use too much oil.
@anasclayhouse
@anasclayhouse 5 ай бұрын
Hi Patricia The line work will smear so you can’t touch it. I believe I’ve mentioned this before, maybe on one of my earlier videos. You see how I hold the mug with my hand inside and I’m always careful not to touch it. If it’s just a light smear, you can try wiping it with some alcohol and then glaze over as usual. If you have a hard time with the oil, there’s the liquid black wax as an alternative. Next month I’ll have a new video of this technique using a certain type of pencil for the line work. So to answer your question, the oil mixture will always smear until you glaze fire your piece, you can’t touch the line.

Hello, is it possible to use Black underglaze with sesame oil? To use te technique?
@anasclayhouse
@anasclayhouse 9 ай бұрын
I’ve tested this before and it didn’t work. The black didn’t stay black, it was more like a grey uneven color. Maybe because the underglaze has water in it so it doesn’t mix well with the oil. But you could test it. You never know. I know some people use black underglaze and wax resist. I’ve tested a lot of these options but what worked the best for me was the oil with either RIO or BIO.👍🏻

Do I need to add Frit? or can I go without out? and is borax the same?
@anasclayhouse
@anasclayhouse 8 ай бұрын
You don’t have to use Frit if you are not using this technique inside a piece where it would be in contact with food. The Frit helps to seal the surface on the line work and also makes it a little more shiny. If you omit the Frit, your line work becomes more matte. I don’t always add Frit to the oil mixture. I wouldn’t use borax because it has a low melting point. Here’s some info on borax. digitalfire.com/glossary/boron+frit#:~:text=Since%20many%20textbooks%20call%20for,generic%20term%20'borax%20frit'.
