I try to remember: I don't have to set myself on fire to keep others warm, nor because my fantasy self wants to be the sacrificial lamb for my moral imperatives. This world will grind up and spit out the lone soul in a heartbeat and not even blink. Protect yourself first and foremost.

As a collector, I enjoy having a lot of the decks I enjoy, love, and use. Some I use far more than others, but I wouldn't get rid of one that is say seasonal because I use it less. To each their own. Do what makes you happy, ya know?

Taking a chance and leaving a comment before you shut them off. 😉I'm really glad I watched this, thank you for sharing. Honestly, I was definitely affected by tarot tubers who were culling & discussing culling in general. That totally included your channel. It wasn't triggering in the way that I needed to turn it off or not watch them & you. I was interested in the discussion and how it affected me. It made me check myself...and the content creators too. Culling, collecting, and consumerism are all things I still continue to think about deeply. For now, I landed on an awareness of myself and how I feel about the decks/tools that works for me. I made a video on it myself. I agree with you that opinions don't mean someone is telling you what to do and that it is up to the viewer to be discerning. I will point out, however, that I do really enjoy most people who also love the Tarot. I can feel the love of tarot there in a lot of the content I watch. That's what keeps me subscribed. I feel like it's special and connects us. So, the opinions of tarot tubers tend to affect and influence me quite a bit and profoundly. Anyway, I'm prepared to hang around with channels whose opinions I may disagree with because I think I like to check in with myself. For me, though, the deciding factor (similar to yours) is about their sincerity and authenticity. Thanks again for sharing.

I kind of latched onto some of the other points you made later in the video--was just diagnosed with autism at 39 years old (!!!!), and have been contemplating starting to make videos to hopefully get better at speaking my own thoughts. So what you said about your own experiences and how making videos has helped you was interesting/helpful to hear. Thank you for sharing. 💜 a collector who has always admired the cullers 😁

I think I equate buying decks like I used to buy cds. Some cds I listened to over and over and over. Some I listened to one song every once in a while. And music is 100% a spiritual tool/connection for me. I held zero emotional reaction to buying cds. I'm just kinda lost for why this is such an emotionally charged conversation around here. All I know is that now I want to dig in my garage for that Alanis Morissette Japanese bootleg I paid way too much for in 1999.

Oh I am a full on collector! Out of alll my decks I only use 3! The only lenormand I own is literally the one I use on a daily basis🤦🏻‍♀️ I have to admit and IDKKK WHYY but it kinda triggers me when some go from 100 to 2 decks 🙄 I mean it’s none of my business and it’s doesn’t effect my life or my collection so therefore idk exactly why the whole cluttering topic triggers the little collector in me🤷🏻‍♀️ it’s all just so mind blowing lol 🤯 great video and topic🌷🌷🌷

I’m a culler too. I have way too many decks at the moment, and it causes me anxiety. I wish it didn’t, but that’s how I respond when I have too much of something. It feels overwhelming, so I’m selling decks on EBay. I only want to keep those that I truly love or that I have a sentimental bond with. I want my other decks to go to someone who will love them and use them. I recently went on a buying spree looking for those decks that would be great tools for me, but of course, I don’t find those very often. I feel guilty for spending too much and now I’m stressing about getting rid of those that I know I won’t use. It’s all about me. No one else is responsible for my choices. I also think that someone’s intention is where to focus should be. Unless someone is being intentionally abrasive (which is very common online), your response to someone else’s viewpoint is your responsibility. How you respond is indicative of your own feelings about your choices. Say what you need to say. Those who appreciate your thoughts will stick around, and those who don’t like it and can’t separate their BS from what you say, will move on. Those assholes saying those really awful things are basically professional trollers. F*ck them! They spend all day hating on others because they get off on it, and they hate themselves. They should be ignored. I’ve dealt with them on Twitter. It doesn’t matter what you’re talking about. They’re going to do whatever they can to hurt you.

I see myself as a reader and so want my decks to reflect that. I do still purchase decks but I'm a little more thoughtful with what and why I purchase. I think I cull bc I get overwhelmed with a collection that gets too large, so I pass them on (sell or gift). But I don't worry about others choices, I just like to see how theur relationship to things/tarot is different. Just life, not right or wrong, just different. 😀 ❤️

Keep it real and keep it YOU. This is your channel. Say what you think and feel. And if people succumb to buying a deck because a tarot tuber is excited about it, well, that's on them. Same goes for culling. We all have free will and we are responsible for our own actions. If you have to put out a disclaimer not to lick your cards because the ink may cause tongue lesions then those aren't the people you want subscribing to your channel. You're not the idiot police. Scroll on by those trolls. They are just that...trolls. And trolls are just insecure with themselves and love projecting those insecurities on to others. You are fuckin awesome! I love your videos. Don't shrink yourself, don't stifle your voice. Again, keep it real and keep it you.

That said, I’m not a content creator so I definitely haven’t felt the pushback or anxiety that you/they encounter. Regardless, prescriptionist language isn’t my vibe so I’m pleased to see these conversations happening 🪞❤️🪞

I think for me, I've only felt triggered when I've seen/heard negativity by way of passive aggressive remarks and then I feel like I have to "defend" myself even if it's just in isolation...but that's just it too...I work it out and move on. And that has maybe only happened once, and is specific to that one person (for example)...in general I'm not triggered, and I'm SO happy to hear everyone's experience. Because "everyone" is not a jerk, and I gain so much from people in this community. Just love it! As for me speaking on my channel I often say "we can still be friends" and then just say whatever I want. I think it could be because my initial purpose in having a KZbin channel was to just connect to people and do some VRs and share my experience... I wanted it to feel like chatting with friends and I assume I will draw in those people who are okay with whatever I say. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I hope you can start to feel more like you can share with us as you truly want to. 💙 Thank you for sharing. 💙

Why cant we all just get along and read cards? Thats the only thing that makes any logical sense for us in the tarot community. Read cards....get along. As far as my own personal feelings about collecting vs culling vs having vs not having.....is that whatever i say, is from MY own experience. I cant stand having a massive tarot collection. I used to collect and i found that it drove me nuts and it was pointless and it was taking up space and decks were collecting dust and i hated it. So i went minimalist and that works FOR ME. people can do whatever they want. But FOR ME i focus on reading Tarot. I focus on being a better tarot reader. Not surrounding myself with things that are serving no purpose. Not having decks i dont connect with but only bought them because they look pretty. If you want ONE tarot deck and that works for you? Fantastic. If you want ten thousand decks and that works for you? Fantastic. What other people do has no bearing on me, my life, or how i read cards. So lets just read cards and get along. Thank you.

Interesting discussion; I have no spiritual connection to my decks. I suspect things I get fill some void in my life, whether it's a need for immediate gratification or a longer term need to have something that stimulates me creatively (art in tarot decks) or intellectually (books). Of course social media is judgmental and should never be taken to heart. I guess I don't get the uproar or intense analysis about buying/owning decks--we all find the things and people that allow us to get through our lives so why attack each other about how we do that?

Loved this! As an autistic person myself I already feel a lot of trepidation about comments/community/verbally expressing my opinions....and my channel is only small. Humans are a lot of work that I'm not always willing or able to take on board. As to collecting vs. culling...I sometimes wonder if the polarity or the level of difference between the two is more synthetic than we think. One may have more decks than some, less than others. I don't watch certain channels because too many colors or strange sounds or too much info or a tendency towards a judgmental tone (etc etc) but I have to check in and reassess that pretty frequently because my OWN capacity fluctuates. ...Sometimes I wonder if the policing culture we live in (as you mentioned) indicates that issues with 'theory of mind' are actually *really* common...that way more people struggle to comprehend how or why anyone would be different in any marked way at all. 🧐🤔😵‍💫

Wow this resonates so much. I'm not a culler so technically a collector but don't consider myself that either but I find myself comparing what I have to others all the time which is my own trigger that I'm working through. I completely feel myself overthinking what I post on my channel because I'm new to videos and I just want to be authentic as I figure out what I'm doing and where I'm going to fit in in the "tarottube" community. I think you do take responsibility. You are noticing this environment and you are talking about it. Its okay to have an opinion. Also having an opinion that’s opposite or different of what’s concidered normal. And sometimes the ones with an opinion that’s different, will get judged in some kind of cruel way. But from what I have seen and read in your comment section every body seems to be very supportive and into what you are saying. And the nasty comments lead to the commenters which you then can happily block. The fun thing is: They will create - new account to watch your videos - but they know if they are being nasty again you will block them again - so they have to go sit on their hands and not do something.. Being the target of an occasional shithead myself.. Its okay. You are not your channel. You are you and you can be as much you as you wish to be here on KZbin. The sick ones will always trie hurt you in the right spot. Personally I wouldn’t let them. No need to reply to this comment. I love the way you voice your opinions. I learn a lot from that. Its not always the way I would give my opinion or express it, we might have totally different opinions and experiences but to me that’s where the learning comes in. Be blessed!
