I’d make a big case that Madusa deserves a spot on this list. For as famous as she disposed of the title, exclaiming WCW was where the real women played. As such, she got pitted into a rivalry where she was never able to win the Women’s Title, which was only held by one person: Akira Hokuto. Where their feud ended with Madusa being forced to “retire” and then being relegated to nothing more than a glorified valet for the rest of her run in the company. Of course, WCW was the absolute worst promotion for women wrestlers as they clearly showed they had no idea how to build them as performers or write them into the show.

Women's wrestling in the 90's wasn't over with fans anywhere during the 90's, at least not in the US. Medusa was the only consistent legit female wrestler in both WCW and WWF aside from the talent they would bring in from Japan. Who else could Medusa work with? I can't name 5 female wrestlers from that era. You can't blame WCW creative for Medusa not being utilized like you think she should have.

Seeing Honky Tonk Man listed a lot in the comments - gotta disagree, HTMs peak relevance was from the mid to late 80s, the Rhythm & Blues joke tag team, the UWF fiasco and a number of years in the Indys really killed his heat. As for the list- Jannetty, coming off the New Rockers job team and his ECW run hadn't really been a name in years, and Neidhart was past his prime. Johnson was 5 years past his high point. But DBS, Hart and Warrioe are certainly apt (and, I suppose Darsow, who was a huge example of "If you can't use the persona that made him a big name, be wary of signing").

Bret Hart was also a three time US Champion, all won in 1998, and a one time WCW World Heavyweight Champion, besides his Tag Team title reign with Goldberg. But he was right from the beginning. The only reason he flopped in WCW was because WCW had only one single use for him - to rub it in Vince's face that they got him after Montreal Screwjob. After the fuss over Montreal went mostly forgotten after few months, Hart was stuck in WCW with neither side having any real plans.

All they needed to do with Bret was give him a mic. If they let him shoot promo on WWE and Vince, he would have been mega over. The fans already had sympathy for him, he could have been the top guy to go after Hogan and the NWO. But that would require Hogan's sign off so......
