My parents got cable in 1997 when I was 9 years old. I'll never forget stumbling upon RAW is WAR on Monday nights on the USA Channel. I instantly became obsessed with Taker, Kane, DX, Austin, the Hart Foundation, Pillman, The Patriot, Shamrock, etc. I found out about WCW shortly after and never understood how anybody thought it was anywhere close to being as good as WWF until just recently lol.

Every dave meltzer five star match ranked from worst to best
@Wurzelknecht3 жыл бұрын
That would be interesting, but also a long-ass list. Some of the 5-stars Meltzer gave out in the 80s were just confusing to me, and at times it seemed he threw a fiver at a match just for being chaotic and super violent and gory because of the novelty factor. Two matches that come to mind is the Sheepherders vs Fantastics, which in my memory just looked like your average ECW garbage brawl with lots of blood, and the other is the famous first 5-star match of Tiger Mask vs. Dynamite Kid from 83, which IMO is not their best match, and could be summed up as both of them spamming and no-selling Tombstones and Dynamite threatening to kill TM with a broken bottle out of frustration.

It wasn't even a real no finish, ended with pinfall. I mean yeah, distraction, but it is even more significant considering that Brock Lesnar attacked both Reigns and Strowman at HIAC 2018, and the match was called off. At Bad Blood, HBK was bleeding for God sake, yet he won via pinfall.

Possibly the greatest year in WWE history in terms of storytelling. The midcard was mostly shit, but there were some stars on the rise that were destined for greatness like Triple H, Mankind and The Rock, as well as a stacked main event roster who each seemed to have at least two feuds at once, and all were somehow interlinked with each other or led into the next feud. Bret feuded with Austin and HBK, the first leading to USA vs. Canada and Austin vs. Owen, and the feud between HBK/Bret led to HBK feuding with Taker, who at the same time was feuding with Paul Bearer and Mankind, which led to the Taker/Kane feud, which also resulted in a split between Bearer and Mankind, and so on and so forth. And despite all that went down in real life with HBK and Bret fighting backstage, Austin getting injured, the Montreal Screwjob and all that chaos, I don't think I have ever seen another year in wrestling where ALL the pieces fell into each other so perfectly. Well apart from gang warfare and the Junior-heavyweight division. That was shit. But hey, at least it introduced me to Taka Michinoku and Great Sasuke back then. Business-wise and in terms of the overall cards, 97 wasn't a strong year on first glance. But man oh man did it leave it's mark on history!

It is the first time we ever see the WWF scratch logo, the first time we get a WWF Attitude commercial (which ironically included Bret Hart), and the first time we ever hear the D-Generation X music (which was used to promote the December PPV).
