The worst part about the Kofi squash is that he never asked for a rematch. It's as if his whole WWE reign was nothing more than a fever dream, or worse still, like it never happened. Even if they had no intention on having him win it back, they could have progressed his character all the same. Maybe a Kofi heel turn, anything really. But that was just embarrassing. And then you have guys like Goldberg who can just show up after a long absence and be given a title shot on a silver platter with zero build up. Smh

@Anurag Lamba What? I feel like if you’re the company’s main champion, you should atleast be allowed to put up a fight. If Daniel Bryan, Aj Styles, Seth Rollins, and Finn Balor were allowed to actually put up a fight and have a decent showing against Brock, why not let Kofi do the same thing? We knew he was going to lose, but to squash him like that just made him look bad.

Kofi getting squashed by Brock was what made me give up on WWE. It became clear to me then that it didn’t matter how loyal to the company you were, how over you were with the fans, or how badly you’d earned it from years of being a quality performer, Vince will only care about his favourites and sweep aside the rest to make them feel special.

They could have had Kofi come out and say something like he wasn't prepared and ask for a rematch. Give him the rematch and let him get some offense in but still lose. That way we could rationalize it as the better wrestler winning, get a little closure on the story and have Kofi not look like such such chump. Instead, as is all too common with the WWE, they're more interested in creating "moments" than telling good stories. Moments get people's attention but good stories keep them interested and coming back for more.

The Brock Lesnar/Kofi Kingston WWE Championship match was unacceptable. Even if Kofi was booked to lose the title they should've at least had the match go 8 or 9 minutes allowing Kofi to put up a solid fight before Lesnar put him down for the 3 count. it was just in poor taste they had Kofi lose in 8 seconds given they kept the title on him for 6 months building up these stories of him defending/feuding with the likes of Daniel Bryan, Kevin Owens, Dolph Zigger, Samoa Joe & Randy Orton, and through all of that just lose to Lesnar in 8 seconds? Not only did it completely diminish Kofi's WWE Title reign, but it made all the previous competitors he defended the title against look totally weak as well. What's even worse was there was no follow either nor did Kofi ever be given the chance to express how he felt to lose a Championship he fought and clawed for 11 years to win, the biggest prize in WWE, taken from him in 8 seconds with no further story explanation.

I wonder if WWE have a celebrity squash player, and book him in a non-squash, more competitive match. That way, it might as well still be a squash match.

I always feel I have a different opinion on Daniel Bryan vs Sheamus. Daniel was a slimy heel at the time and regardless of wrestling capability, his arrogant character getting creamed in 18 seconds was both hilarious and a surprise tone setter for Mania that night. As for Hunter, same feeling. He was the epitome of snobbery and hadn’t gotten proper comeuppance, and as a kid I thought him getting squashed in quick fashion made me laugh out loud. It entertained me at the time.

One I think should've been here was when brock squashed braun in Saudi Arabia. Brock finally lost the title to Roman, Roman had to relinquish it, and we got brock vs braun 1 on 1 to crown a new champion. Braun got 1 kick to the gut in on brock that whole match. Brock owned him with 5 f5's and beat him. For me, thats where strowman's momentum truly died.

Why did they make the match between Owens and Goldberg in the first place? Because Brock played politics and refused to do the rematch with Goldberg at WrestleMania unless he won a top title from it. I still blame WWE, though, because I think he was bluffing and Vince, for all his "I'm in charge here" machismo, lacked the balls to call his bluff. Also honourable mention: Brock vs Dean Ambrose at WM32. When Brock doesn't give a shit, he's the most toxic and destructive (and not in a good way) force in the wrestling world, because he ruins every other star he works with (read: squashes) and never makes anyone look good, and Vince drools over him too much to say "no" to him. He's good when he DOES give a shit, but that's so rare that he's just not worth the damage he does the rest of the time.

Bryan losing to Sheamus may have been senseless, but ignoring what it lead to afterward isn't great. Without it, the Yes Movement likely would never have happened and Bryan would never have been given the opportunities he received. It wasn't like Kofi-Lesnar that killed all of the singles momentum Kofi had, or Ricochet not only being allowed to give Brock a match that he actually likes working, but having his momentum choked out too. It was the rare loss that made a superstar bigger than ever.

I think I know the thought process of Kofi not being upset over it. They think that they can strike twice (lightning that is) because John Cena use to do that as well, and look where he is now. I am NOT saying that it is right, but I think Vince's thought process with that is that if you show you are being pissed about losing the title, that is showing weakness. And, as we already know, Vince HATES it when you show weakness because everyone must be strong until the end of time (sarcasm).

That Goldberg Owens match was disgusting. Especially if Goldberg could still go for 5 minutes vs. Brock at that year's WrestleMania. Who booked that shit?

Right. might not be a popular opinion but here goes. I didnt mind the goldberg Owens squash. On the surface it's got a lot going for it. It's a classic goldberg nostalgia trip. Owens delaying furthered his heel persona and drew good heat. And Jericho returning and costing Owens the title furthered their feud excellently and made it even more personal. The issue for me wasnt the squash match, it was how the conclusion of their feud was treated at mania.

i loved kofi getting squashed from brock lesnar kofi never felt legit enough to be a wwe champion, his reign just felt like a big "here you go" by wwe management. And they needed legit stars for the brands after that deal with fox. Tbh brock lesnar should of stayed at smackdown and the fiend on raw but oh well

I disagree with Lesnar v Kofi. They wanted buzz, to make Lesnar look like a monster, and to be hated. So having him absolutely stop Kofi mania in its tracks set the tone and did what they wanted for the time being.

I honestly don’t feel the Chyna one was a senseless squash match. It built up with Ivory getting heat mocking chyna for her injury and as an audience we all wanted Chyna to get healthy and get a hold of Ivory. We got that at Wrestlemania and it was satisfying to watch. Just because her contract expired it doesn’t take away from the story.

A lot of these can simply be boiled down to three things: Politicking, money, and Vince being bored. Kofi being a prime example of the three. As for the infamous 18 seconds, Sheamus knew it was going to make him hated, but neither man had the clout to convince the powers at be (Vince) to lengthen the match. All in all, these squashes didn't need to happen, and some of the people who got squashed never recovered the momentum they had. Damn shame too, but this is the WWE: not a tall and muscular man, proceed to the "We Don't Care" Locker Room.
