The only thing I dislike about the Rathbone series is the American backers insisting that Watson was a fool and behaved like one.In the Conan Doyle stories recorded by Watson for publication in the strand magazine they were portrayed as equals not a silly double act.

That was largely the work of Irish-American director Roy William Neill, but to be fair, Bruce's portrayal was found charming by most UK viewers, and Rathbone himself spoke approvingly of it.

Rathbone was a great actor and I'll always enjoy his Sherlock films, but I feel that the scripts he was forced to work with didn't give him material that was faithful enough to Doyle's original stories. Brett showed more of the angst and inner turmoil Doyle wrote into his character. Now I'll be off to plunder Prime Video for a Rathbone/Sherlock film binge! Cheers!

Its wonderful how they colour and clean up these old movies & the audio seems much improved as well. I use to watch them on late night TV back in the 80's and they were in B&W. They were good then but much better now. They seem much closer to our time now. Not sure Woody Allen would agree as I remember him having a hissy fit back in the mid 80' when they started to colorize old films.

Holmes makes a reference to Izaac Walton. In case anyone doesn't recognize the reference, it's about what made Waltin famous, his work, "The Complete Angler", a book published in 1653, about all the joys and methods of fishing. Walton is a great great (I don't know how many greats) uncle of mine.

I believe this was originally in black and white. The coloring is rather good compared with other black and white movies which have been colorized. Also, reportedly, the ghost of Alan Mowbray is sometimes seen at the Masquers Club in Los Angeles.

Love the scenery at 25 - this is between London and Rugby remember. Also the exteriors of the carriages look really weird but this maybe due to the colourisation. I mean you wouldn't expect them to actually look up pictures of LMS trains

You could upload the adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Basil Rathbone, it is the second one that this actor did where Professor Moriarty diverts the attention of Holmes and Watson in other crimes, in order to steal a jewel and in the end Holmes discovers him and they fight and Holmes finds him. pulls a building. The movie is very good and I would like to see it, if you can put it on I would appreciate it.
