The only thing I dislike about the Rathbone series is the American backers insisting that Watson was a fool and behaved like one.In the Conan Doyle stories recorded by Watson for publication in the strand magazine they were portrayed as equals not a silly double act.
@briandavid6879

That was largely the work of Irish-American director Roy William Neill, but to be fair, Bruce's portrayal was found charming by most UK viewers, and Rathbone himself spoke approvingly of it.

@AngieDeAguirre ahhh, but then, we must agree to disagree 😊. Rathbone was a great actor and I'll always enjoy his Sherlock films, but I feel that the scripts he was forced to work with didn't give him material that was faithful enough to Doyle's original stories. Brett showed more of the angst and inner turmoil Doyle wrote into his character. Now I'll be off to plunder Prime Video for a Rathbone/Sherlock film binge! Cheers!

Its wonderful how they colour and clean up these old movies & the audio seems much improved as well. I use to watch them on late night TV back in the 80's and they were in B&W. They were good then but much better now. They seem much closer to our time now. Not sure Woody Allen would agree as I remember him having a hissy fit back in the mid 80' when they started to colorize old films.

Holmes makes a reference to Izaac Walton. In case anyone doesn't recognize the reference, it's about what made Waltin famous, his work, "The Complete Angler", a book published in 1653, about all the joys and methods of fishing. Walton is a great great (I don't know how many greats) uncle of mine.

0:30 See the copyright in Roman numerals? MCM, M stand for 1,000 and the C stands for 100. The C preceding the M means 100 less than 1000 or 900. That reads as one thousand nine hundred or nineteen hundred. XLVI The X stands for 10, the L stands for 50 so, an X preceding an L means 10 less than 50 or 40.
