I don't want to be that guy but... Both of these were more deserving of the slayer sword than Neil's marine. The Elrond is technically amazing and the very best LOTR paint job I have ever seen, and the fat dude is such an eye catchingly beautiful model. Well done. Looking forward to your frog dude... Both those entries are just amazing but Glutos is just out of this world. Could just aswell had won you the sword. Those pants are just mezmerising. Its like your eyes cant really comprehend what they are seeing cause its just so smooth. Its deep into Flameon territory that is. Getting inspired to paint and start my slannesh underworlds warband. Guess I have to join the patreon again after cancelling it a while ago(weddings are expensive I noticed). Congratulations on your wins!

Great video, Andy. I'm very curious. How much painting do you do in a week for a project? When you say 3 weeks to paint the fig and 3 weeks to paint the base, what does that mean in real time? Thanks and Congrats on the wins. They were great to see in person.

Congrats, big boi was definitely top notch, and I made the same assessment that diorama/squad was an easier category, as the amount of work you need to put into multiple miniatures puts a time/skill cap on most entries. I got my first GD entry and first finalist pin in at my first adepticon for my Tanith first and only diorama. That took a month with family stuff and work, but next time…I have a whole year😅.

What are your thoughts on GD (or any major painting competition, for that matter) having/implementing a "not seen anywhere previously" entry policy? As, from the outside view, it often seems that competition happens on social media rather than at events. I'm likely wrong, but it kind of ruins the point of "first impression", if judges just so happen to see a lot of works previously?

The pants on Glutos are astonishingly beautiful, I cant even wrap my mind around capturing that texture on a miniature! It also definitely shines through in the paint job that you enjoyed yourself with Elrond!

Both entries are stunning - as I recall, Glutos was on or near the bottom shelf, and I literally sat down on the floor to look at it better. The only bad part in my mind was that I didn't get to see the back of it in person - the stone and gold on the back is great (and the little rat!). I also got to speak to Andy briefly - thank you for indulging my awkward fanboy-ing!

Honestly i believe both of your models are truly amazing how the palette which you used making clothing look real I'd be in a seventh heaven which would be a cool place to be what with the shape the worlds in ! But if you feel you can achieve better then go for it sfter all thats what painting is all about. Personally I'd watch you paint rather than Mr Picasso !

I'm nowhere near you r level of painting, but I had a similar feeling of getting joy and motivation from painting a "simple and small" miniature with the AoS Darkoath Warqueen; I don't even play AoS and don't plan to, and she's very different from what I usually paint and really got me think about painting different and made me try a couple of different single miniatures with which I had much more fun painting than the usual painting up armies.

It also impressive that Andy paints to this level on the Slaanesh piece while also doing it on camera - it cant be easy working in and around a camera setup making sure pieces are being recorded
