I agree the video makes it exponentially better. I rarely watch/listen to anything with no video - except maybe if a pod I watch religiously has a show where they lost or screwed up the video, so a one-off.

Wow, looking forward to seeing this. Sarah is an incredible advocate for Cult Survivors. Not only did she put herself out there to bring attention to a Cult that hoodwinked so many influential people for decades, she has since educated herself to a standard where she can speak with authority and broad knowledge of these groups and how they operate. So great to see she is on your show!

Firstly, thank you for making me laugh in a long time. Secondly, the cult stuff is so right on. I was in one for 25 years. A documentary was made called “Holy Hell” telling the story line per the authors standpoint. Cults involving higher purpose can be damaging but they can be very enlightening, and I mean that truly. For myself, it brought about an extremely great learning experience. Since leaving I now notice cults everywhere in life. The irony of it. And yes the group leader is a very cunning narcissistic personality. I could go on about this. I joined at 25 and left at 50 and now I am back peddling to get my future finances in order. I just turned 65 and I don’t feel it. I am a Transit Operator and my life is really good and I have worked past a gamut of emotions. Thanks again for this and good luck to everyone.

So if the brand was a symbol and not his initials, she would have been fine with it?? She went along with the branding and convinced others to do so. She's still covering for Allison Mack. Allison admitted that it was her idea to brand women, not Keith's. Sarah spent 12 years recruiting people.

Sarah Edmunson gets off way too easily for her role in NXIVM. She was senior leadership, and running the Vancouver center. Do you know how many people she sold this crap to? She recruited hundreds, took their money (for the company), and put them through a bogus carrot chase over years, pursuing this or that bullshit milestone, always for another price. She withdrew from the organization and started accusing it late in the fourth quarter when she saw the direction of the winds change and realized the house was about to collapse. Ever since she’s been talking about “all these crazy things that happened to me,” as though she wasn’t a senior partner in the retail scheme. I’m not saying the sex branding crap was her idea (although she did lay there and let them brand her, which is nuts), I’m talking about the principal bread and butter of the enterprise: conning people into joining a cult and taking their money for a pseudoscientific, exploitative program of bullshit. On that front she was one of their best salespersons.

Tell me you don't understand anything about cults without telling me. "She just lay there and let them brand her...nuts.." That's so incredibly insensitive. And you either know nothing about NXIVM and what it took to take it down (And Sarah's participation in taking them down) or you are still a loyal person to Keith.
@benneidl9336
@benneidl9336 3 ай бұрын
@@elizaham3189 I despise Keith Ranierre and NXIVM. I do know a lot about them. I am in the Albany area and have had legal dealings against them. My opinion about Sarah Edmunson are based on her own book (which I read), and her own interviews. It is undeniable she headed the Vancouver center. It is undeniable that in that role, she was in charge of peddling this very expensive bullshit program to consumers out there for years. That’s all. True. Tell me it isn’t. I think she has a lot of apologizing to do to a lot of people and should spend some more energy on that instead of doing her umpteenth congratulatory interview.
@elizaham3189
@elizaham3189 3 ай бұрын
@@benneidl9336 Then you lack a lot of empathy. She has talked many times about the part she played in it but also, she believed in it. She wasn’t selling it after knowing it was cult. She got out and got others out. But it seems like you have a vendetta against her or something. Why would you bother commenting on this? Just to shit on her?

I really enjoyed Sarah as a guest, and how you guys have been expanding beyond comedians in general. My lingering question is where is the line drawn between cult and normalcy when it comes to joining a group? It seems to me that ANY group has requirements to join and stay a member of-whether it’s work, friends, family- and that EVERY group I’ve joined has presented themselves one way and I’ve eventually found the truth to be another after I’ve drank the koolaid.
@elizaham3189

One of the biggest markers of a cult is "what happens when you leave". Mormonism, Scientology, etc. believe in cutting off any family and friends who aren't in the cult anymore. MLMs are commercial cults and they do it too. All the friends you make while in it, suddenly up and block you once you leave.

"Culty with a chance of branding" would be a good title for this. But man, how many "legitimate companies" have cult elements in them? And it's whether they are a cult or not - those elements are there. And I think that the reason for this are the holes we have in legislation and simply the way that law is being carried out in the States (and world as well! Like the "black companies" in Japan).
